Why Vince Staples Sabotaged His Career (On Purpose)

- čas přidán 21. 10. 2023
- Vince Staples was once a rapper who had everything needed to become a mainstream success. His album "Summertime 06" went #2 on Billboard. His songs "Norf Norf," "Nate," "Senorita" and many more achieved over 50+ million views on CZcams. He was very funny and likeable - being that he had always seemed wise beyond his years and never flaunted his money and fame. He's never done dr*gs or has ever tasted alcohol. However, upon getting famous and signing a multimillion dollar deal - Vince willingly chose to step away from the spotlight. This was in part due to the content he was displaying in his lyrics - where he portrayed the image of the gangster lifestyle in which he grew up on. Doing so made him realize he was motivating people to commit violent crimes that would lead to more death and crimes that he was accustomed to seeing growing up. And he didn't wanna contribute to that anymore.
This is the SHOCKING story of Vince Staples.

This is what happens when the industry and music fans look at numbers more than appreciating art for what it is.
Lots of rappers not discussed in mainstream who are a million times better then the mainstream artists who are pushed hard and heavy
@@Sakima205 TROOF
@@Sakima205there’s a reason why lol the companies know bullsh*t sells more. The average American isn’t the brightest unfortunately
facts bc his last album is still in rotation. idgaf bout no charts
@@william58295Thats not really why. Damn near anything will have a crazy boom if it’s industrialized enough. Fast, cheap food is a great example. It’s a lot more efficient to make something that can be made the same and enjoyed 10x over than something that’s one of a kind. It’s not about the average american, more about the state of business as a whole. Damn near every industry is being influenced by this
I don’t care bro ramona park broke my heart was great I will never forget the legend of Vince staples he’s like that
Facts
One of the best albums I’ve heard this decade, no lie 🤞🏽
That's a fact and the album before it Vince Staples was 🔥🔥 I don't even see the fall off
People saying RPBMH is bad is fucking dumb. It’s a fucking piece of art
I got the vinyl on my wall rn
The self titled "Vince Staples" and "Ramona Park Broke My heart" are his strongest pieces of work as entire projects. Both are listenable from front to back with no skips, excellent mixing and mastering, with a maturity that appeals to those who are trying to be better humans. Most impact that music has had on my life since Rashad's "The Suns Tirade".
omg so much better than these mumble (c)rappers today! I like tom mcdonalds and half of logic.
"Vince Staples" album is my favourite one from him, those internet hipsters are tripping
Bro The Suns Tirade and Ramon Park Broke My Heart are my favorite albums of the last 15 years. Great comment, couldn't agree more!
That's what I'm saying his last 2 projects were his best ones yet imo. He's at a point in his career where other would rappers start to run their cycle and get repetitive and die off and he made some of his best music yet
Nah
I respect Vince for walking away from a life path that was hurting him. No amount of money in the world is worth one's sanity. I like how he's stayed humble and hasn't walked back anything he's said. He's making music that he wants to make and that's dope.
"No amount of money in the world is worth one's sanity."
word
If you are a hip hop head you know how genuinely talented Vince is. I sadly feel like the death of Mac probably hit him extremely hard.
Man. I bring him up in music convos mfrs be like "whos that" smh but jump off the roof is a masterpiece just to name one. Theres a certain cord some artists strike in you and man that song.... makes me sit down and think.
The caliphate is the song of the year
@@cbaileychampthat track introduced me to Snoh Aalegra.
No it didn't stfu.
I've seen Vince live twice since Miller passed. Both times, he ended his set with a backdrop of Miller and one of his songs playing.
They talk shit if u sell out, they talk shit if u don't. Vince kept his soul. Good for him
He didn't sabotage his own success... he sabotaged financial gains in exchange for maintaining a personality, and that is true success! It's the same as comparing the financial sector with the whole economy... those sell outs are a niche these days, this boy is the franchise baby!
His shows just came out on Netflix he’s doing just fine now
u must not know bout the all the sync deal he gettin from the more electronic music he put out after ST06
If you can make 5k month off your passion you won people don't understand this , idgaf who dick lil baby sucked for millions Vince got his soul and made his $$$
Vince really doesn’t get enough appreciation. His whole discography is so unique and solid. Vince himself has such a great mind
I feel Vince, we black folks are more than just the trauma that haunts us. 🤘🏿✊🏿
Right on 💯🦾🦾
💯💯💯💯
💎
EXACTLY! We are MORE than that. So why does he have to take our community backwards acting like an entitled victim, crying about "i aint freestylin for no white man DuRRrRrR its like slavery dUrR" when the breakfast club is so heavily black from the hosts, the behind the camera employees, and the majority of its audience"
Not even to start to mention the white people who selflessly helped him make money and grow his popularity, example Mac Miller just as the video describes. So tired of here my own brothers constantly crying about tHe WhItE mAn when I and i guarantee millions of other black folks have received plenty of love from white people in our lives. We talk about being stereotyped and painted with broad brush strokes, but it is ok when we do it to white people? People needa wake up
I can definitely see why he feels like the industry is built off of exploiting Black pain. First time I saw him in concert was the day he found out his brother had died. He came out, said his piece, and performed. It was pretty clear he’d rather be anywhere else but it was also part of a pretty big festival, and he probably couldn’t back out for contractual reasons. That alone would leave you pretty jaded, barely having time to process a personal tragedy (even if they weren’t super tight) and then having to go right back to a crowd of young fans, who the majority of them probably can’t relate at all to how you’re feeling and where you’re from. Personally I like where he’s at this point musically, similarly to Earl S it sounds like he’s trying to evolve as an artist and person, which is what we should hope for from our favorite artists and role models
He doesn’t FEEL like the industry is built off black trauma, he knows that the industry infact does
@@understanding77 true. My wording was a little off a couple times. Like I don’t know if he would really feel comfortable being referred to as a “role model” either
The hip hop/rap industry. The rest of the music industry does lots of shady shit but this is a rap/hip hop issue. Black folk need to stop feeding the machine.
It is not "industry's fault". Industry gives you what you want. That's it. It does not exploit "black trauma". It just exploits trauma, doesn't matter if it is black, white, green or purple, because it sells. It is easy to say "yeah, this is industry's fault!". No, this is your fault. You, as a listener, crave this stupid shit about gangnbanging, death, money and pointless sex. It is the listener that is the one to blame. It is not industry's fault, that the average hip-hop listener is a low IQ maniac, that constantly wants to hear repetitive lyrics about rappers killing each other.
Industry just does business.
@@rysiokowalski7194 L take lmao
I’m confused… Vince is literally doing the best he’s ever done and dropping more music than he ever had before. How did he ruin his career? He’s thriving especially with the vast majority amount of creative and financial control he has over his music career.
Click bait titles
this is how you know you didn’t watch the video
He use this title towards rappers that don’t care bout fitting it look at Earl’s
Watch the video and if you still have to ask that question then I don't know what to tell you lol
@@heirnwt4779so it’s cap….
Vince didnt fall off, he just not blind to the bs that comes with the music industry and the lengths they want artists to go. He's a wise enough man to know what he wants for himself.
Earl and Vince had it figured out. You dont need a record label to be good and get noticed. You just need the right audience. I respect what they did to the fullest 👍🏾
Vince is literally my favorite rapper since Summertime 06, and I've been appreciating his artisic evolution, which matches his personal growth. You can tell by his persona that he's "too real" and not willing to be gimmicky to play industry games, which I respect. All he needs to do is what he's been doing all.along: Express himself, rather than selling himself short to appeal for the masses.
He never sabotaged his career, he's exactly where he wanted to be. He literally came from the gutter and now he's about to venture into hollywood.
This is what not selling out looks like. He’s a millionaire and won’t have to work until he dies. That’s literally the most ideal situation
Dude lost so many people, and you can't put a price on that.
When people mistake making your career the way you want as "sabotaging your own career" is a big ass indicator there are ALL the wrong priorities put in importance here from the public it SHOWS BAD
Vince is a real Man cause he stands on his morals & principals no matter what people say about him. Bro is a real dude and i salute the young brotha.
I am not really into mainstream rap because I tend to like songs that are depressing/dark. Vince Staples is one of the few I really enjoy.
vince is what the industry needs but sadly ppl hate to hear real music
“it’s so draining”-people get tired of being in pain all the time, im grateful he has transcended not only his past, but also other people’s expectations of him.
no wonder I love that song “fun”(off FM!), the lyrics make so much sense now…..(as if to say, im tryna have a good time, im past being destructive🌱)
True lovers of authentic art will continue to look for him and gravitate towards him. Dude’s a legend.
Loved his self titled album in 2021. Love his lyrics and his interviews. Everyone can’t come with you when you evolve.
Vince last 3 projects are all classics. No skips. Love the messaging and the production.
FM was weak asl
@@DarkSkinT listen to it again. at first i didn't like it too much but now i love it from front to back. Vince has no weak projects.
you pretend like dude fell off and "nobody is checking for him" when he has made songs with 50 million plays. vince may not be the center of attention but he's doing good, he's not "stuck as a personality".
Vince is a true artist and his last 2 tapes were his best concepts from start to finish album paints a beautifully complex picture.
wonderful video. Big Fish Theory was actually my introduction to Vince. it's such a great album, the electronic influences on it are so crazy. I'm glad the man wanted to push boundaries constantly, and avoid stereotypes.
I still liked his new shit too honestly the rap consumers biggest issue is not only we mainly wanna see someone's hardships turned into entertainment but that we can't stand to see them adapt and become someone new
One of the best comments
Thing is he did play a crucial role in the return of the west. And if people paid attention his last two albums were 1000% a definition of a Gansta's growth. Just like kendrick lamar
Yup the cutthroat boys stuff w Aston Matthews and Joey Fatts was like a baby tde. Stolen youth had tde and cutthroat all over it shit was gas.
no lie Vince is what the game needs in today's day an age, we need more free thinkers and even if you don't agree with what's being said, at least have your own opinion... I appreciate the homie for that
been his fan since 2015, he's my favorite rapper tbh. When he dropped The Big Fish Theory I wanted him to blow up soooo bad, but after his self-titled, I was like "mehhh, u know what, he can stay as lowkey as he wants", but I think one day he'll blow up.outta nowhere like his homie Steve Lacy lol
Vince Staples is this generation's Mos Def
I’ll say this : you got people talking about him going back to the gangsta shit then you got homies like Vince who matured and realized that all that trauma will eat him up if he doesn’t change. You talk about his « potential wasted » but homie has been evolving through and through. His last two project (self-titled and RPBMH) are pure classics to me ! He has always been mature about everything and kept his ego in check. He’s the realest type of dude and a true gangsta at heart.
This is freedom... not chart rankings, awards, yachts, mansions... the comfort in his chest, the relaxation in his shoulders is worth more than all the champagne, cigars and diamonds other rappers flash... you don't need chains when you're the bling... this vid popped up in my inbox after i watched a vid on kanye... kayne is so rich, so famous and looks so tense and miserable... it takes so much maturity to know what will truly make you happy and so much strength to stick with it when everyone else can't believe it because it doesn't look like the advertisement for happiness... super impressive.
He's one smart dude! All the respect to Vince.
He’s been on almost every fest I’ve been to since 2016.. he’s doing fine.
I always look forward to Vince. I genuinely love his work.
Vince is a revolutionary in the industry. And i know he doesnt want that, but the message is so powerful that the messenger deserves credit.
Vince is just cool .
Smart and really cool
He didn’t sabotage his success he just didn’t follow the lead of all other rappers before him
Damn, I must live under a rock, I never realized one of the prevailing opinions amongst casual fans is that he's become less appealing?? I've seen nothing but growth from his discography as time has passed.
Same with B.O.B. lmao, you guys remember him?
Vince staples could be a writer. He is incredible at learning and conveying a message
His net flix show is legendary
Thank you for making the Summertime 06 to GKMC comparison, I’ve been preaching this for years and people say I don’t know what I’m talking about
Vince Staples gotta show and just dropped another hitter.
Every single vince staples interview is a straight gem. legendary. i love this dude. And never forget his XXL freshman cypher. I was honestly concerned about his mental well being when i heard prima donna and watched the music video/short film. Cause i can really relate to it. And it makes me happy to see bro doing better
You nailed it man, the gangster rapper with a sense of conscience. It's kept me captivated since 2012, I love Vince Staples music and I've been listening actively since his work with Earl Sweatshirt where I initially discovered him. I actively search him out for new content ever since he revealed to the world that Kenny is 5o
Vince has only gone from strength to strength as an artist. Success is being able to do what you love and sustain your family with it. As far as I'm concerned, dude has been a huge success.
Vince is about to be more successful than ever it just not the traditional Kim kardashian type way
Who's here after Dark Times dropped?
Good video, im just watching and agreeing with what I already know. I like all his projects, but certainly the shifts are well explained.
I found about Vince Staples from his verse at the end of the song "Hive" by Earl Sweatshirt. I thought that was one of the hardest verses ever, and his albums are on regular rotation in my playlists. He will always be one of my favorites!
need more real people like this fr, respect the mindset but also the MOVES
Sad stories, but he’s legitimately one of the most important minds of this generation in rap if not as a whole in terms of consciousness, it’s hard to phrase shit in the way that really helps you see the greater picture in a way that a lot of people can’t without being direct, it’s like he said it’s up to you what you take away from it
His analogies to the “auction” and monetization off of black struggle is things that a lot of people have gotten into serious social political struggles/troubles in within the last couple of years so it’s no wonder that he wants to be away from of media that not only taunts him but also uses him like some kind of puppet in the grand scheme of financial gain, I forget who this is quoting but I always use the same analogy that slavery never went away they just move the goalpost 🤷♂️
Vince needs more love, this was excellent
Great video!!
Mad respect for this young man holding on to his principles
really great video man!! i always love these :)
i didnt know of him beofre this and now im hopeful to start with his newer music and back tracking. Thanks
And now Netflix “The Vince Staples Show”
I'm not gonna lie this is probably the first Louaista vid I'm blown away by. Great job 🥂
I know Vince by his "Vince Staples" and it's really funny how newest songs for me have so much meaning and unique atmosphere like "The Shining". "Sundown Town", "East Point Prayer", "When Sparks Fly", but a lot of people need old Vince with his hits by S'06. I really love when an artist experiments, dont stuck in his sound and always grow. (Sorry if i have mistakes in sentences, just learning )
His project Stolen Youth with Mac is phenomenal too if you havent heard that, its a must. Back from 2013 and its so good front to back
Great video 🔥
i like it. when you get into the meat of the video your analysis becomes more nuanced and sharp. i think your audience can handle it
Vince staples is a legend in my and many others eyes. He’s ima victory lap rn
I didnt know anything about Vince Staples until I saw him on Abbott Elementary. I was like "oh, he's a rapper too". 😂😂
@Louaista
This video was very informative for me. I heard Magic on the radio and it was so good I kept going back to it. Then CZcams recommended your video and I was like "Alright. I'll learn a little about this dude" After watching your video, I realized he was a consistently skilful and honest artist so I sought out his catalog and dove into Summertime '06. I loved it and started championing Staples to everyone while looking into more stuff like this mix tapes. Anyways, now I've got so much of his stuff and he's in my top 10. I appreciate you putting me on to him being more than just some dude on the radio like a lot of these cats that I like a track or two but wouldn't dive deep. Anyways thought I'd let you know. Peace ✌️
Subscribed love ur content keep up the great work
God he’s fucking amazing man he’s just like Earl etc. he’s awesome man frfr
All of my favorite Vince music came out since summertime and I've been a fan since the of days
great vid
New to your videos and I Fucc with tha content very heavy , coming from a artist in tha music industry you def spot on with your info !!!
his Stolen Youth album goes soooo hard!!!
I need another album from him because he is a great artist that change his sound.. Like his last 2 album was some of my favorite stuff from him.
Vince is definitely playing the game different, he's a whole character on one TV's best new shows (Abbott)
Nice job bro
this is why he is my fav rapper
This was a good video fr
Every man finds his way into manhood. Some quicker than others, some harder than others. Some won't take off their bib. Your character is a reflection to what life means to you.
Very wise. You have any other opinions?
Big fish, summertime, Vince staples and Ramona park broke my heart are such fantastic albums. I really love them his style flow and beats and meanings are either crazy oder beautiful ❤
This vid made me subscribe
Vince is something special
Intellect and talent
His new Netflix show is great. ❤ Vince new and old tracks.
You did great on this video. Vince is literally the only rapper I listen to. I feel like we grew up together when summertime came out was when I was bugging then big fish came out when I was trying to get out and shit was weighing on me to now Ramona Park broke my heart being a grown ass man and not playing that kid shit no more. So he's got a special place in my musical heart.
Appreciate the video. It's well made, and I can tell you are passionate. It's clear you have the skills to pay the youtube bills.
If I could give some feedback: your thesis is unsupported. Stay away from the clickbait. He bailed on the mainstream path but in no way whatsoever did he sabotage his career, or whatever you're claiming. Quoting random reddit posts with a single up vote doesn't exactly bolster your argument, in fact it lessens it.
The Big Fish Theory was his most successful album… maybe his old fans didn’t get it but all the hipsters in my hood listened to it
dope video
He’s been one of my favorite rappers for years now. He only gets better with every release
vince staples one of the realest and one of my favorite rappers of all time ✅, self titled and ramona park broke my heart was hard and he’s still a good artist !
Are you with that? is the track that introduced me to Vince. I friggin love that song.
I’m a new fan 💞💞 at my big old age… gotta look more into him. Thank
Also I wanted to mention how you are easily my favorite content creator when it comes to storytelling and rap, keep up the good work bro and God Bless
I've been an og fan ever since he joined odd future. I listen to every single one of his albums start to finish and I actually thought his last 2 projects were his best fucking albums and FM is a certified hood classic as well. All of his albums have a concept and distinct sound dude is a musical genius imo. Never knew there was any of this hate going on fr
That was a nice story at the end. I wish he would spit game on a podcast
All the music ive listened to, i can't believe ive never heard of this man till his shorts just popped up on my youtube about his Netflix show
Vince has my respect thanks to this video. 💯
good video
He Got To Hollyweird && Said "Nah, My Soul Ain't For Sale". Nuff Respect For That ✊🏾 He Sounds Very Insightful
I love this dude!
There hasn't been a Vince Staples album I didn't like.
Vince staples goated no matter what. Bro legit the only rapper who can be a comedian if he truly wanted to and his projects are actually good and not just filled songs.
Yo just recently came across your channel and have loved the videos I've watched so far; this one is really it. Appreciate this deep dive. Always been a Vince fan, even after the style switch, but never did the homework on his life or understood what was going on in the background, especially when it comes to the change of sound / lyrical content. Damn. Appreciate this work.
