    Right. Just put this into context in my brain. Once you doped the distance and was just missing the target, you effectively shot a 3 moa group at 1160 yards with a 3030, with open sights, offhand. That's bloody amazing. Mind Blown!

Have you ever tried an around 1890 single shot lever action Martini Henry 310 with cast lead "Super", made in SA projectiles. Whilst they might be an old slow poke they still packed a solid punch at 400 yards, enough to drop head hit feral pigs using the flip up ladder sights. A lot of near misses and guess work of course, but when hit they went down.

    You have to be a great shot to hit as close as you do to those targets. I bought a winchester 94 30-30 when I was 17; I'm 73 now and have hunted with that rifle every year since then. I live and hunt in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina where the woods are thick with rhododendron and mountain laurel so my shots are close, usually within 50 yards. Keep on shooting.

    😮I thought when I dropped a deer @ 250 yards, it was a feat never before accomplished 😅. That was with a 30-30 Marlin and 3x9 power scope. Damn! You are good.

    Have shot a few 30-30s in my day and have never been let down, highly underated round. Pigs on the run just fall into hot lead when you're doing it in smooth moves

      Was that Marlin 30-30 and old 1894 hexagon Barrel? I shot one when I was a kid in 1968 and those were very heavy but if it's the newer one they aren't as heavy

      No sir, it was a newer model my folks got me for my 15th b-day back in 05. It was a pretty light gun too, which made the recoil a bit harsh. That sumbitch kicked like a mule lol.

      Nice... Ya I've got to get another lever gun for my collection as well.. I mean, they aren't my favorite type of firearm, but I'd still love to have one, especially for hunting.. If I ever do get my hands on one again, I'd like to get one in .50 Alaskan, or at least .45-70, since .45-70 ammo is probably easier to find.

    Superb shooting Mark, and it's good to see these experiments testing the limits of the cartridge. Speaking of limits, I was intrigued to read in a Jack Reacher book of some 30-30 handloads with an extra (!) 47 grains of powder in them. I'm all for a bit of fun but I'm glad I wasn't the one to test them - pointy bullets or not, I reckon one of those would stand a fair chance of setting the rest of the magazine off. Nice rifle, I like lever actions, although I'm not overly keen on tubular mags either from limiting the bullet choice or occasional unloading problems with rounds sticking temporarily then feeding when the action is closed on the 'empty' weapon. Another good video, always worth watching!

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  Před 2 lety +1

      Quality lever actions have no issues like that, and as for fiction writing, just like the movies....its not real, it didn't happen, lol, Cheers
