This news bulletin probably got a good lot of viewers as ITV was still on strike at this time and there were only two available channels from the BBC, so anyone wanting news would only have the BBC until ITV returned on 24th October 1979.

That's because today we have 24hr news channels which we didn't have back in 79. News on 2 was a short news bulletin anyway. I'm sure their was a longer report on The Nine 'o' Clock news on BBC1.

Yes,Don"t forget before 1981 there was no ENG Video tape it was ALL Film and therefore ALL Stories WERE underplayed untill the 9 or 10Oclock news buillitens
