There's something I don't think I'll ever get. I've been in situations where I've genuinely been romantically interested in a friend. When I like someone, I come forward and say it and when I get rejected I accept it and move on like an adult. Why is it hard for people to just come forward and say how they feel instead of trying to just skip any discussion and assume it's ok to do things like this? And why is it so hard to accept rejection? It's like "dude, it's not the end of the world, there are thousands of folks out there and even if she doesn't reciprocate your interest you still have a pretty kick-ass friend if you act like a decent person instead of trying to freaking jump them wtf"
I think these people have watched too many romantic movies where the love interests kiss before even confessing their feelings and think 'This is so romantic and people like this!!! I should do it too!!'
Everybody has different hangups when it comes to growing up. Maybe something that you struggled with when learning how to exist as a person was a breeze to them and they wonder how people seem to mess that up. Everybody has a least some aspect of themselves that lies within the margins, though I guess that becomes less and less acceptable the older you get.

And contrary to what pop culture tells you, there's nothing wrong with straight up asking if they're comfortable with being kissed. But you also have to take no as a final answer, don't try to plead your case if someone expresses their boundaries.

Ugh hearing this story just reminds me of so many situations I had to deal with myself, often being the only girl in predominantly male spaces growing up. I didn't have too many guys try to force a kiss on me, but instead I had a lot of guy friends who would be very toxic to any guy I expressed interest in, called them an idiot loser etc, and constantly call and text me and get very upset if I didn't answer. I don't know if they even admitted to themselves that they wanted to be with me but it was very uncomfortable for me and really put a damper on our friendship. There have been very few male friends I've truly felt comfortable around. Part of that is probably just my own paranoia over past instances of a "friend" turning into an asshole but the thought always occurs. It doesn't help that our culture still insists that men cannot be friends with women without sexual attraction. I have been trying to familiarize myself with the list of vidcon featured creators ( that's how I found this channel!) but one of the other youtubers I clicked off immediately because one of their most popular videos was a quote what do you guys really think about girls quote type video in which teen boys insisted that it's impossible for boys to be friends with girls without sexual attraction. Honestly it depressed me to hear even jensi kids perpetuate this idea. If we didn't tell boys it's impossible for them to be genuine platonic friends with girls, maybe they wouldn't have such a hard time wondering if that's what they really wanted from the friendship on their part.
I'm so sorry you had to deal with those toxic friends. I hope you have separated yourself from them and have better friends now. :)
About the "can't be friends topic without intentions" topic, I personally only confess to deep friends, but continue the friendship, because I don't want to lose the it at all. So definitively disagree with them.
Hi, so I know this is an old comment but I wanted to respond to you to give some perspective on this for you and to anyone else reading. Brace yourself as it's going to be a long one, but I think you will find my perspective interesting at the very least. I think the boys in your life probably did have feelings for you, but didn't know what to do about it, and expressed it as jealously for when you showed interest to other boys outside your friend circle.
It's of coarse absolutely possible for men and women to be JUST friends, however it's not at all impossible for those same friends to become attracted to one another and develop romantic feelings. However, the approach your male friends had, and the approach of the guy in this video was done so poorly (although what happened to poor Emirichu was much worse). A better way for those guys to handle their feelings is just to be honest and casual about how they feel. Any male friend you had who was romantically interested in you could have just said to you (in private), "Hey, I know this is kind of out of the blue, but I have been wanting to tell you that I have had feelings for you for some time now. I like you as more than friends, and I just wanted to know how you feel about me. I also wanted to know if it would be cool if we could maybe go out on a date, or just hang out or whatever, and just see where it goes from there? If not, it's totally cool, I understand. I just wanted to get these feelings out." Of coarse though, it's extremely rare for a teenage boy to have this level of confidence, because teenage boys are cringe (I was once a cringy teenage boy so I would know). There's a lot of uncertainty when it comes to confessing your feelings to a female friend you are interested in, like what if she rejects you, or what if you ruin the friendship, etc, and 90% of teenage boys are too insecure to approach this situation in a confident and mature manner. And so more often than not, teenage boys who like their female friends will either never approach them with their feelings, or act out around her in cringy ways (like in your example, disapprove and be toxic to any other male you show interest in).
With that said, in Emirichi's case... the guy in that video had something wrong with him. Like something deeply psychologically wrong with him. I mean my man, pump the fucking brakes... if you like a female friend of yours, don't just immediately go for a kiss without her consent lmao wtf. The fact this guy thought it was a good idea to lay a kiss on her out of no where shows he has idea how to read vibes, or even has any idea of how to act in social situations to the point where I think something went really wrong in his life. It's just not normal behavior. I have had feelings for female friends of mine in the past, but in no way, shape or form would I ever had thought, even in my teenage years, that I could swoon her over by randomly kissing her out of no where. And the fact that he made multiple attempts even AFTER she was clearly made uncomfortable is just next level. Dude is probably a psychopath in the literal medical sense.
The major point to take away from the guys in stories like the one Emirichi shared is that their attempt at a romantic advance is always taken from 1 to 11. There was no build up to it... no moment shared where a mutual attraction was felt... no flirting... no indication at all that there is even the possibility for romantic feelings to develop yet. It always seems in these stories the boys and men in them don't know how to talk to girls and get them to like them, so instead they "target" their female friends because in their mind they think they are already one foot in the door. In essence, they don't necessarily have romantic feelings for the girl, but just want to get in her pants. In these stories, there's always an INTENT behind the male's advances to win over the girl, instead of mutual romantic feelings happening naturally between two people.

Exactly! Multiple times I would hang out with my male friends in school and people would call us cute together. I was with someone and talking to one of my guy friends about something, and someone yelled “OOOOO SHE’S CHEATING” and I was so mad. Even now, I have a guy friend that likes me, and I like him, but we’re strictly friends. We haven’t given any indication that we like each other, but because we hang out a lot, people think we’re in a boyfriend/girlfriend type thing when we’re not and it’s so dumb that people push this idea that boys and girls can’t be friends without an intent behind it

I think I know what Thomas did wrong here and many guys fall victim to this: it's the platonic friend backdoor gambit. It's when someone pretends to be friends with someone they like only to make an (unwanted) advance on their crush. This harmful myth is the result of bad advice and even worse pop culture portrayals. Next thing he did wrong, the first time he tried to kiss you and you clearly didn't want it, he should've apologized once and not do it again! I got this from Dr. NerdLove, a lot of good stuff from him
