  • Tomorrow I fly to Alabama to visit my mom. She is gifting me her vintage 1975 Guild Acoustic Guitar. I cannot wait to bring her home and share it with you all. Do Vintage Acoustics sound better? We shall see.

Yes, I haven't played in a long time, so I can't wait to see what it sounds like now. It's in pretty great shape too. Most likely will use it in a lot of recording situations.

You're mom is awesome!! That is an awesome guitar!! Enjoy your trip to the South. I'm in Mississippi, btw. I had a question, but I'll ask it later. Be safe, jellyfish. Later.

Hey Jelly fish, what a cool mother you have, I'm just relearning after being out of the loop for 30 years and your channel is a godsend. Anyway I'm using my Kiso Suzuki acoustic D18 copy from the 70's, it sounds amazing.

That's so awesome to hear. I got super lucky that she let me have this guitar. She got a Taylor, so she's in love with that guitar now. haha. Never to late to learn guitar or get going again. I'm going to keep going on here, so lots more to come. Keep connecting the dots jellyfish. Stoked to have you.

Yes, that guild will be an awesome addition to your collection 😀👌. I have a 74 guild s100. I have never had it serviced ( hopefully soon) in 40 years that I've owned it. Playes great with low action. Cheers from NZ

That's awesome and thanks for sharing. The guitar is magical. I do have it with my luthier and he's going to add a thin shim under the original nut and it should be dialed in perfect. I can't wait to get it back now. ha. I have to visit NZ soon. :)

Nice! I have a 1993 Gibson J-30 that I have had since new - my parents bought it for me for college graduation. I also have two rebuilt Harmony's - a 1971 1203 Sovereign and a ~1968 H-1260. I do believe deeply that older wood on acoustics makes a difference. I am not much of a believer in woods on (solid body) electrics. On solid body electrics, I believe pickups, the amp and the players technique make the most difference. Even if the Guild needs a neck set, or new frets, it will be worth it. I am also a believer that acoustics need occasional visits to a good tech/luthier. BTW - I live in Taylors, SC.

@@mrelmoresmusiclab As an addition to this and not to accidentally start an argument about wood on solid body electrics on your channel (ha!), I should have said that I don't think "old" wood makes a much of a difference on solid body electrics. The quality of the wood and parts can make a difference - I bet we have all played dead solid bodies that just for some reason don't have "it" - even when unplugged - old wood or new wood wouldn't matter. But I still think it is mostly the pickups, playing style and the amp used with solid bodies.

Yeah, I totally agree with that too. I don't think it makes much of a difference on solid body electrics either. The oldest one I own is a 96 MIA strat that sounds great. I think electrics all resonate according to how the are all put together and the pickups, bridge, saddle and block are what really makes them what they are. Acoustics are just their own thing and the wood definitely seems to make a difference and they do seem to sound better over time.
I know how hardcore some people get about tonewoods and I think everything is great and up for discussion. Heck, we love chatting about gear as much as playing. It's what we do. ha. Have a great night.

Fender Gemini IV - I love it. I purchased it with a case and a Dean Markley Tahoe sound hole pickup --all for $30.00. It is no longer white, more like a faded off yellow - like it came from a home of smokers. Action on it seems pretty great. Seattle.

I like Taylor guitars. I walked into my local shop to get some strings. There on the wall was a 1995 510 in like new condition. Case candy and all. Had to have it. Not really vintage. But a lot older than my others. So I got two sets of strings that day too.

That's pretty awesome. My mom is in love with her 314 and it plays like a dream. She let have the Guild since she got the Taylor. Once you get a Taylor you have a guitar for life. My girlfriend used to work there and she put the necks on a lot of the guitars out in the world. Your 95 sounds awesome. Enjoy

I've got a '68 Guild D50...love it but the action is a tad high as well.
