"Tremendous Abuse Of Tax Payers' Money" Isabel Oakeshott Blasts Muslim Student's High Court Loss

  • A Muslim student at a London school has lost a High Court challenge against its ban on prayer rituals.
Michaela School in Wembley was taken to court by the girl over the policy, which she argued was discriminatory.
The non-faith state secondary school previously told the High Court that allowing prayer rituals risked "undermining inclusion" among pupils.
The free school's founder and headteacher Katharine Birbalsingh said the ruling was a "victory for all schools."
In an 83-page written judgement dismissing the student's case, Mr Justice Linden said: "The claimant at the very least impliedly accepted, when she enrolled at the school, that she would be subject to restrictions on her ability to manifest her religion."
TalkTV's Vanessa Feltz is joined by Isabel Oakeshott, who says it was a “tremendous abuse of tax payers' money.”
Centre for Education and Youth’s Baz Ramaiah also joins Vanessa to discuss the controversy.

To all those liking this comment... I assume that by 'this demographic' you are not subtly pointing towards Muslims? Well my fellow Brit (if you are British of course) have you even bothered to consider any benefits they might bring? Have you even tried to search online for your answer or will you allow a certain sort of thinking (some may call this ignorant thinking or stereotyping or plain racism or just downright miserliness and resentment- I am not specifically stating this) that Muslims may well be the most generous group in the UK? - and that they may actually donate four times more to charity than the average Brit?
Well if you'd stop for a moment to find out you'd see that actually this is true. So guess what? I'm assuming you're not a Muslim, so any Muslim is probably way way more generous than you. Just the likelihood of statistics. Nothing personal. I'd call that a huge benefit that Muslims bring right? Would you? Words are cheap right... Actions much less so. It was disruptive and, as it was a Science lesson, they had no idea what the lesson was about and I had to stop what I was doing to register them then catch them up to speed, or they walked out before the lesson was drawn to a conclusion and the learning summarised. Other students were annoyed and distracted and it was very difficult. Students are in school to learn and they should not be disadvantaged in this way. This school treats all students equally and the results speak for themselves.

It is an outrage that a mother who placed her daughter in a secular school, would then exploit her daughter to take this action, at the public expense. There is something very wrong at the Legal Aid Agency who agreed to fund this action and they need to be held to account. I see that in the Head's measured response to the ruling, she states: "This mum intends to send her second child to Michaela, starting in September. At the same time, this mum has sent a letter to our lawyers, suggesting that she may take us to court yet again over another issue at the school she doesn't like, presumably once again at the tax-payer's expense". The intolerance of Muslims once again challenges our tolerant society. We should heed the advice of Karl Popper, and not tolerate the intolerant.

We've never had a separate prayer time in English schools, might have sung morning has broken in assembly & said a few little words, but that's it! We are also a Christian country, not going to lie about it, we're in England!

B/S my primary school had us go to church once a week and it wasn't even a Christian school and this was in the 2000s So it wasn't even that long ago (unless you are much younger than me and if you are, what are you doing here? Go and enjoy your youth. Stop getting into politics, it'll only stress you out)

Not to mention kindness towards others and not judging others without judging yourselves There is absolutely No kindness here in England and almost nothing but harsh judgements cast upon others.
Jesus would be disappointed with us and I say us because I am part of the problem although I am working on it it's hard to be in British society and not be evil.

@@jamaali2358 At the institutional level, the Anglican Church maintains its status of religion of the state and the King is still Head of the Church: hence by law, England is still a Christian country, which entails some specific privileges for the Church of England that are not extended to other religions.

This is being blown out of proportion. We are a democracy, and the court has ruled, and democracy has won. We should all stay calm.
