I have always thought that the ambience of the maps and other players skill sounds add to the atmosphere of the game.

Bet gamers these days would be furious if the trading system will be like RO. Like you literally need to go window shopping in each shop in the whole town just to find what you need..and there just isn't just one town in the game! 😂
And that's exactly what made it feel so real and fun. There was no hand holding.
Its sad to see it so empty. This was THE place to be for my old hangout, feels like so long ago.

I have many screenshots, from the starting map area, sometimes with specific classes, lining up in a horizontal configuration. As a Knight, I recall how several of us, would line up and trigger Counter + Endure, to freeze us in the "Attack" stance, all of us, looking very cool, with our swords drawn and ready to strike! ― What makes me even sadder, than "this emptiness", is looking up recent game footage, showing how much this 2002 game has *_changed,_* since last I played...
I have a lot of memories from this place... how I miss those times. It hurts :'(
Yeah... :( No merchants vending and assholes summoning MVPs via dead branch leaving a bunch corpses until some defeats them... I miss those jackasses...

I'm in tears and remembering my childhood playing this game, it really is a time that will never come back and I hope that at the end of it all we can rest in a place like this.
This brings back so many3x memories. One of the best games I've had played so far. But, the old RO is different. The environement, community and guild. I always remember before where though I was still sleepy but need no wake up early every weekend just to help my guildmates with the WOE.
Gosh, it's been a very long time. For me in terms of mmorpg, this is the best of it. How I wish this game would have a redemption where its glory would be brought back to life.

holyshit this bring backs memories when I was still in grade 5. every schooldays I had a 20pesos money for my recess but I won't spend it and ill wait until noon which is the end of the class then I would go home and eat then change shirt and go to computer shop and play ragnarok for 1hour which is 20pesos. then after that I would just stay at the computer shop until 5pm and watch other people playing ragnarok. im from philippines btw

It's 2005. You're sitting outside the south gate of Prontera. You're waiting for your friend, w ho just started the game, to finish his starter quest. You opened a chatroom to flag him down when he came out, but some randoms joined before him. For a moment you just chatted with these strangers. Maybe they were new, maybe veterans. Maybe they wanted to offer you some items to help you along. Maybe they wanted to ask you questions about the game. Maybe they just wanted to hang out, usually that's the only reason you needed. Maybe you continued playing with them, maybe they went their own way - but those small social interactions made the game back then.
I know the game still exists, but not really. RO occurred during a phase of the MMO scene where we actually played to be social. Maybe it was a different game for you, maybe it was WoW or Runescape. One thing is for sure, I miss it.

It truly is the social aspect that's missing from today's games and MMOs. You don't need to interact or rely on other people at all. Therefore relationships and memories are never built.

This game will always have a special place in my heart. Growing up I definitely learned a lot of bad and good from the game. Those hours and hours or should i say weeks of hunting GR card and other mini boss card. Time has definitely flew by... Nostalgia

That was a blast to the past..
seeing the south gate this empty (plus the music) is so depressing 😭 i miss the noises the buff skills make, the random dead branch summons, etc. and i used to vend here for hours at my favorite spot against the wall in the shade near the entrance. i always thought the south gate to be a more relaxing place than the west gate.
Its 20 years since(Korea close beta sever) my 1st experience with this game. Miss this old vibe so much.
it was so special. my dad used to say 'you're not gonna be happy you spent all this time playing these games'. even though he was loving and just concerned he was wrong in some ways. I really can't replace those memories!

There are still servers online. Every couple years I get the urge to log on and make a character.
I did so last year and it was really fun to play again
I went back to a server after I grew up and had a lot of money to spend on items.
It turns out that wasn't the fun of the game. The fun was the journey with the other players, and relaxing with them in between.
This was my first MMO experience. I was between a sophomore and junior in high-school when the beta was active and free.
As with any mmo, the concept was enthralling and the options felt limitless. This game especially relied on social interaction to get anything done and it helped create a lot of fun memories.
The music was legitimately amazing at the time and really cemented the memories in my brain. Just the few seconds of this track hit me like a ton of bricks and made me exhale deeply.
man, I've been there long time ago. The benches near the gate were our guildsmen favourite spot. Sometimes, we went online just to sat down there, chatting, and enjoy the scenery and BGM.

This gives me so much nostalgia that I can’t even express my feelings, its joy, happiness, sadness, I’m feeling like crying, all together. Such a precious time I spent playing RO, the amazing memories will be forever warmly kept in the bottom of my heart.
I miss this game back 2005 until 2011. I remember when RO PH needs a load for you to play then free to play. I miss mu brother and cousin😭😭😭

Damn, i never get bored for hearing this. Goosebumps me always. Remembering my childhood always make time to play RO.
I remember back in the day, when we were all starting out, my friends and I 4 of us played together, in this very map we were farming pupas and there was one pupa that was about to turn into a creamy while we were hitting it, the pupa transformed and we all panicked coz the creamy was like lvl20+ and were like lvl5 and one of us was able to hit the creamy with a crit, and the other 3 missed, then boom he died. Good times... Good times
Dying from a Creamy is a classic right of passage.

Never forget. Me, as a lowly Acolyte, fighting for my life against a Creamy. A Knight came along and gave me a hand. He showed me where to go sell my junk. I let him know what I had and he stayed quiet for a while. He said he'd "Brb" and returned on his Blacksmith. He gave me a slotted Clip and instructed me to use the card I was about to sell to an NPC, on the accessory. 😂

Ragnarok is one of those "if you know, you know" kinda games, there's just nothing else like it. I've played dozens of mmos, nothing gets close to the feel of ragnarok. idk if or when that feeling can be replicated, but i hope one day another game can be a true successor. it's so sad the game is dead now :(
The closest thing I have come to Ragnarok in recent times is anime. There is a lot of anime which is clearly influenced by Ragnarok such as "Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu"

@@ShufflerBluey I watched a video by a Taiwanese RO gamer. He said that now hackers or bots only appear on specific maps. Actually official RO servers still exist but the game is a lot different than the old RO.
In Taiwan server there were a lot of players sitting there and just chatting. That's the best moment in my life. 😢I really miss old times...

I was 6th grade back then and had a good chat with IGN: ----kate---- from Ragna PH Odin server.
I was under the impression she's my GF (female swordsman) because we had a good time chatting and sitting here in south prontera.
I had no more money to extend my time in the computer rental shop so I said my goodbye and hoped we could chat again. Turns out that was our first and last encounter. Ohhh the childhood "heartbreak". lol.
Wish I could go back to this simple yet wonderful lifestyle of the early 2000s

Blessed to be part of the og’s. Started when you needed to purchase cards just play the game, when Moroc was not destroyed, when novices didnt have gears specific for novices only. We greeted everyone we meet with emojis, meeting mew friends was exciting, toxicity didnt exist.

This reminds me of the filed 8 or 9 where the centipeded were, and we used to have alot of mages who’d lvl upthere. Like attacking one monster all at the same time, then there’d be healers around. Nobody cares, just lvling up and making friends. Good old times. And the old Prontera castle and how i’d want to save money by walking my way down to Geffen or Payon.
