浄土宗大本山増上寺 御忌大会－舞楽（Bugaku）Zojoji

「お念仏をとなえれば、誰もが極楽浄土に往生できる」、この教えを掲げ浄土宗を開き、生涯をかけて説き広められた法然上人のご遺徳を偲ぶ法要を御忌（御忌大会）といいます。
舞楽奉納80年の歴史を誇る大本山増上寺雅楽会の出仕により、御忌期間中、毎日正午過ぎより大殿前舞台において優雅な舞楽が奉納されます。
演目は「春庭花（しゅんていか）」「納曽利（なそり）」「賀殿（かてん）」「陪臚（ばいろ）」「還城楽（げんじょうらく）」「散手（さんじゅ）」「陵王（りょうおう）」などです。
今回撮影したのは「還城楽」で、ヘビを好んで食べた西域の人が，ヘビを見つけて喜び勇んで持帰るという勇壮で躍動的な走舞に属する舞です。ヘビを見つけ、それを取ろうとしてヘビのまわりを回り、つかまえるさまを舞います。

Honen Shonin (1133-1212), founder of the Japanese Jodo Shu of Buddhism, proclaimed and propagated the teaching that by chanting the name of the Amida Buddha anyone can come to dwell in the Pure Land. The Gyoki Daie Ceremonies are held to commemorate his death and great virtues.
After noon during the Gyoki Daie, diverse elegant programs of traditional court music and dance (bugaku) are offered by the head temple Zojoji Gagaku-kai Association, which has a proud history of 80 years.
The performance photographed here, named Genjoraku, vigorously relates the tale of a Westerner fond of eating snakes, who discovers one, dances around it, captures it and returns bravely home.
