Makarova played incredibly this match - both did, but it was Ivanovic who was constantly on the defensive after the 1st set. Quality went up from both late in the 3rd, much like the Sveta/Kuzzie match.
Unlike her other early exits in Grand Slams to noobs, this was a legit one for Ivanovic. Makarova played tremendous tennis. Most players of her class would suffer a meltdown from missing that many match point, but she played to the absolute end. Looking back at it, this is one of the best matches of the tournament. I couldn't breathe for 10 minutes afterwards, being a huge Ivanovic fan xD
@skochkoman1 agreed - this was a stellar match, one of the best of the year, unfortunately forgotten and neglected by most tennis scribes. And for someone whose fitness and mobility was an issue 4 years ago, Ivanovic played crazy defense in this match. Makarova was just that much better. It really wasn't amatch she lost, but one that Makarova won. And Ekatarina is a very talented player. But all the same, it must have been heartbreaking for Ana. Here's hoping this year she makes QFs or better
i was really rooting for ana in this one, she looked extremely fit... but really... i'd be the biggest ana fan if she stopped those annoying "come ons" and "ajde". love her game though
