Lee going off for no reason was a GIANT red flag, and 99.999% they are ALWAYS abusive. Moon was very lucky to have found out before it got worse.
I don’t think Lee was ever going to pay the guy. That’s terrifying tbh. Listen up people, never EVER go to someone’s house if they crash into you and promise to pay you cash at their place. Trust your gut, better to just get insurance involved!! Stay safe guys
No, I don’t think Lee had any intention of paying the cab driver anything and, when the cab driver kept demanding payment, Lee snapped and killed him. It is terrifying. I also agree about not going to someone’s house to receive payment for something. If you get in an accident and the person at fault says “I’ll gladly pay you, but the money is at my house. Do you mind coming with me to get it?”, tell them it’s ok and that you’d rather get insurance and the authorities involved instead. DO NOT go with the person to get the money. They may not have any intention of paying you at all… Be smart, and play it safe.

I’ve already heard this story, but I like hearing Mr Ballen tell the story in his own way. It makes me sad how much people will overlook someone’s cruelty based on their looks or background.

The guy was a grifter and conned older women into giving him everything they had, including their life savings. He basically romanced women using his good looks and then murdered them and stole their life insurance, then used their money to con more women. When the woman in this particular story found the dead taxi driver in his home, she happened to unravel his entire con story - however, when he was arrested, his picture was so good looking,
a lot of people were skeptical that he was really a con man because how can someone so good looking be a con man? And that is their vapid, superficial line of reasoning….

I don't know how people can look at a murderer and find them attractive. Lee, Bundy, Dahmer, etc., the minute you tell me someone's a killer, they become immediately repulsive to me. So the fact that people are still swooning over them and want to date/marry/get lucky with them is just disgusting to me.

Imagine poor Moon having to explain to her parents that she took them to dinner with a murderer. He must have been a good actor though because he seemed to have fooled a lot of people but like most of those types, they think they are so clever and do something so dumb and get caught.
So what happened? I still don't get it.
@@thepaganapostate3208 Lee had murdered his ex girlfriend and taken possession of her home and cat. He basically scammed a whole bunch of people because he wasn't rich. The night he went to dinner with Moon and her parents he got in DUI accident with a taxi driver. He didn't want to go to jail so he offered to settle it privately, lured the driver to his home and murdered him. Then he decides to use the taxi drivers bankcard and stuff to pay for the gifts for Moon. He had to buy all these roses to mask the smell of the dead body in his house but he then asks Moon to feed the cat. She has no idea where the cat food is and whilst looking for it, finds the dead body and then they find out he's some sort of serial killer.
I think that their looks play a huge role in their ability to successfully fool people aswell.
@@lochdown5509 definitely. He presented himself well and by Korean standards he was very handsome, so that may have helped him in certain situations where people would overlook strange behaviour.
I don't think he was a good actor, I think they were all just dumb.

Asian countries r so weird like that. That one guy who killed and ATE his girlfriend not only became famous but became a highly paid food critic who posed for magazine covers imitating the photos of him eating his girlfriend. This guy is worshipped for looking good and that other person was worshipped for the way he ended his family. Other countries don't have it happen in such large groups and they don't feel as strongly as they do over in Korea and Japan. It's quite wild. Amazing, smart and very polite society that has some odd quirks.

Yeah even though the cannibal is japanese, but in south korea this thing that they were obsessed how good looking the killer was is sort of cultural. In south korea they are obsessed with good looks, but also very certain looks to point plastic surgeries are insanely common, but then also money, and all that extremely superficial things

We appreciate Mr Ballen's accuracy with all the details. It keeps us engaged from beginning to end.
Especially how he knows the thoughts of people he’s never met …
But they aren't accurate? He takes the details available and embellishes HEAVILY to create a story. Like, that is the whole point of this channel. He doesn't have access to crazy details no one else does, he is a storyteller and wants to keep you engaged. You can say he is entertaining, because he obviously is INCREDIBLE entertaining, but he isn't remotely "accurate". The largest part of each story is just made up.

@@marieniggenaber2605 He literally makes up the majority of the stories he tells. He consistently fills the telling with details that can't possibly be known that he invented wholecloth just to make the story better. It's not that he gets details wrong, it's that he just makes up most details.
Your coverage of this story was so much more entertaining than the video I saw on it previously! And I am not being critical of the other creator's work on this story -- it was very good. But Mr. Ballen has the most entertaining and attractive voice out of everyone who covers true crime or science fiction stories. Plus, he brings a great deal of humanity to the people who have suffered from these crimes and strange occurrences. God bless you and your family, Mr. Ballen, and a very merry Christmas to you all! I'm learning about monopolies and the gilded age in AP US History, and mrballen acquiring bedtime stories reminded me of horizontal integration. If mrballen becomes the monopoly of story telling I'm not complaining though!

The only irrational fear I picked up was my weapons not being where they were supposed to be after that serial killer episode that would target, stalk and break in before the murders to unload guns and move other weapons. Now I check to see if my bed knives are in place and not tampered with every night before bed.

As soon as I heard “Dec 2022” and “Korea” I knew it was going to be this story, it was mad over here in Korea. Proper messed up. I wonder if John is going to cover some more recent stories from Korea too. A load of awful instances have happened over here these last few years (well, in the past too) that have people all over the country worried, especially tutors :(
You should start your own channel and cover this. You would be perfect for that, unless you are an American living over there and are American decent. A proper Korean would be perfect to expose these stories knowing the culture, language, and all that goes along with that.

I think he did this story specifically because it is seasonally apt and hasn’t been covered by every true crime CZcamsr. In fact I’ve never heard it before which is refreshing. You can only listen to the “Covina Christmas Massacre” of 2008 story so many times before you refuse to listen regardless how much you may like the video’s author.
Hi John, Alex here. You obviously don’t know me but I’ve been a true fan of your work since the Dyatlov story days. After all these years of watching your videos, I’ve recently muscled up enough courage to start a channel myself. I first came across your videos and thought you were a remarkable storyteller. Then I watched every video you had since then and fell in admiration of your character, especially when I discovered your accomplishments in helping out the victims. Not only are you an extraordinary story teller but you’ve changed the lives of real sentient human beings which could not be more powerful. Through my amateurish 1 month of CZcams experience, I realized the ridiculous amount of grind, time and talent it takes to narrate such sensitive stories. My storytelling is nowhere near as captivating as yours but I strive to be a channel of your kind John ! If one day, somehow, I become a bigger channel, I make a pledge here in public and to myself to create authentic and transparent methods to aid victims of unfortunate tragedies, regardless of my monetary eligibility with CZcams. You are an amazing individual and obviously more than just a story teller, I strive to become a channel like yours and want to use this comment as a reminder to myself that you've changed my life trajectory for the better. Maybe the CZcams thing won’t work out, but you have changed my mindset in a permanent way.

There are literally hundreds of comments like this in the comments section, and it's so strange.
There are always also comments about how someone's dad died, and Mr Ballen is helping to get through the situation.
They are so bizarre and overly dramatic that I can't bring myself to believe that it's actual human beings writing the comments.
I have questions, did I miss something? Why did he ask Moon to come to his apt to feed the cats? Where was he and what was he doing while she was there in his apt? Did he plan to also kill her in his apartment and just wasn’t there when she arrived? Had she never been to his apartment before? That’s odd that he never invited her there before but she had a key. Can someone please explain? It’s like that part of the story was missing. Thanks to anyone who reads and comments on the questions!

As far as I know, the stories that Mr Ballen tells actually happened. This is not a Christmas horror story from the pen of a Hollywood film scriptwriter. This is reality.

I found this channel at one of my lowest points and as silly as it sounds your uploads are one of the things that's ha e like kept me going and hearing your story also encouraged me to get help. Thank you for all you do and all your crew does as well ❤

I wasn't actually leaving because of how bad my depression had been, and looking forward to something I was able to get enjoyment out of benefitted me. Sorry that you have this wonderful life that's been so easy but not everyone has that and telling someone that the work they do is so good and wonderful that it makes you look forward to it when not much gets you feeling that way anymore seems like a normal ass comment to me. I guess your parents never taught you this but if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Have a great day! 😘
@bradleyboyer9979 so idk why you think this is a bot comment. Bot comments are so generic, very short, and often are just tag line style phrases. The accounts are often plain first names with a number. This comment comes up for one becaus people love this channel and the man who runs it. Second these comments are due to Mr.ballens personal story and his issues dealing with mental health. He promoted better health for a very long time by using his own real story and unique style to share very personal life issues to his audience. A lot of people resonated with that which has been stated and appreciated by mr.ballen himself many times. I'd ask you why someone giving thanks for helping them through rough times is fake to you? Maybe you've had an easy go in life or your just ignorant to the real world. Often times it can be as simple as saying hello and how are you to someone struggling to help them get through the day. Your looking in the wrong comment section for bots and your bot detector is trash.

I remember listening to you in 2020, and oh how far you've come is spectacular! You were good at story telling back then but are absolutely amazing and very professional now , you and your team are really doing a phenomenal job so keep up all the good work! 😊 The only thing I can say I miss is "3, 4, even FIVE times every week" lol the good ol'days 😂

Not sure where Mr. Ballen got his source from, but Lee is not considered good-looking in S. Korea, let alone "exceptionally" so. Walk into any high school in Seoul, and you'll find plenty of guys who look like Lee. He's a dime a dozen.

Finally a comment about the video's content itself rather than seeing the endless list of seemingly bot-like generic praise comments. Don't get me wrong, I love this channel and how he tells stories, but it seems like a rarity to see people actually discuss the content in the video.

Quick FYI for any future stories in Korea (and most east Asian countries, I think) - the first name you read is the family name. Korean names are usually a one syllable family name followed by a two syllable given name. It just means you were referring to them by their surnames.
Isn’t that most proper though in their culture, if you know the person closely then you can refer to them by their first name but it’s the surname for when you’re being respectful?

@savagemakeup6223 true, although I think it's profession first if even surnames are too personal, with a suffix of "nim" kind of like "sir" - songsaeng-nim would be like saying teacher, sir.
If referring to someone by their surname, the most polite way would be, for example, Moon-nim. Equivalent would be Ms Moon in English.
(There is also "ssi" which can me used if someone is younger or lower in authority than you, but even then it can be seen as impolite or too informal, or so I've been told)

I thought of the Bedtime Stories video about the Skinwalker Ranch as soon as Mr. Ballen mentioned the ranch. (Their video about the ghosts at Kedena Air Base, Okinawa, was special to me because I went to nursery school there in 1958-1959 -- before the murders that started the haunting, though.)
