Sorry to hear of your brother’s passing, can’t imagine losing one of my siblings. I lost an uncle right before thanksgiving due to Covid & we’re still in shock.
@@JPthebeeman Thanks JP. Not gonna lie, this is way worse than losing a parent. He was just a year younger than me. Sorry for the loss of your uncle. All we can do is to keep hanging in there and love the ones that are still here.

Nice how to video. As a suggestion, if you use a "figure 8" stirring pattern when stirring by hand, it will really eliminate any sticking to the bottom or burning, and does mix better.
Thanks for the good instructions. I live in the Pacific Northwest where winters are long, cold and WET. Winter feeding is a must. The bright side, you can make good money in pollination.

I like to bring the water to a boil and then add sugar gradually stirring as I add. Probably doesn’t make a big difference. I put the vinegar in the water at start.

Just started this spring. Getting hive set up for winterizing. Right now I have sugar water in and am going to be making fondant tomorrow - I'm out of sugar. I'm feeling kind of scared that I'm going to mess up but I have not harvested any honey for myself this year and when I checked last month they had a lot of honey set aside. I've only been checking 1x a month. They have a cross-combing problem though that I haven't been able to deter them from. Anyway, I'm on my way to having a good top bar hive cause there are a LOT of bees in there now. They've built comb on 13 bars. It's cold today so they are all scrunched up in the middle keeping warm. Not sure how I should insulate them from the below zero weather we can get but I will do my best. I'm also going to make some pallet windbreaks to lean up against the hive to help them out. Thanks, JP, for helping me overcome my fear of bees and making friends with them. I hope you are well.
JP I'm hooked brother. I had been in poor health and looking for natural bee honey with the natural stuff that has all the nutritional value. Can't find much around here. But I have seen a swarm around my tree last year summer. So I might check this dead tree. I only need a teaspoon a day. Hahah. Love learning.
Merry Christmas to you JP. I do enjoy your videos. The beekeeping world is one of varying opinions. I have heard one must not heat the sugar solution above 190 degrees. It changes the structure of sugar and that is dangerous to the bees. It makes them sick. For years, I have just mixed the sugar with some tap water and let it set up. The damp mixture hardens within a day. JP, why fondant and not the cakes, I make without heating? Is there a particular reason you use fondant? Do have a splendid day.

Awesome video, great info. Have you thought about using Ice Cube Trays to let it set up in? Then you could pop them out and store them in zip loc bags or even tupperware.

Great recipe. For us urban beekeepers I would encourage folks use a spacer and put it on top of the frames as rats might be attracted to it.
