If you are concerned about the work from home future in India then this video will help you understand the reality return to office in IT Jobs and why WFH is ending in India.
There are various opinions on why work from home is good or why work from home is bad, without getting into that debate, we need to see which companies are allowing WFH and which companies are not. RTO is also about control. A person working from home from a small town will be financially independent within 10 years. Companies don't like financially independent employees. They are harder to control and more demanding. They cannot be made to work as hard as people dependant on their job for livelihood. 🙏
Bro... No one is financial independent..... See the inflation, school fee etc.....
Interesting perspective.
I could see myself in it...
One of the best analysis i have seen thats true
Savings gives confidence and changes our thinking
😂 kuch bhi
Honestly working from office isn't the issue.. The issue is travel & staying away from native place
Very true
Needs to stay within 5KM from office, takes 30 mins but needs to give 40K rent
Can stay 25Km from office for 20K rent but travel time ll be 2 hours.
Its not worthy
Every body thinks wfh is company point of view. This point, I raised everytime.
Companies have started talking about reduced carbon foot print in their sales pitch. But they do not want to consider reduced travel time, reduced power consumption etc, by allowing work from home, and thereby reduced carbon foot print. How fake!
Cost of living .. I sit at my home town I earn 1 lakh 30 thousand per month now going to city will cost me 30 thousand rent and other factors which will give me a lost of 40 to 50 thousand per month .. and then comes the kids.. so i left India for now
Major reason for these service based companies like TCS, Cognizant, Infosys etc to call their employees to office is Real Estate. They have invested in office spaces and their leadership team have invested in flats nearby offices. if employees work from home, whole real estate market will fall. who will pay the rent for the flats a Senior Manager has prchased near the office for rental income?
You wrote exact same words I say ..
Wah kya socha hai bhai zabardast. 101% agree. Senior leadership ka rent bhi to bharna hai.
Honestly, I started doing WFH from November last year and I can see lot's of positive improvements in my mental and physical health.
I had to go to office once in a week, this helped me to connect with team and understand what's happening in work.
That was enough.
Company
Which company bro??
I prefer "Work from Anywhere." Period!
Same
Company all about ego pride ....if leader is control by fools..then no real work no real project ...no progress.
True
Two important reasons not covered in the video are:
1. Govt forcing companies to bring people back to office to facilitate lateral employment
2. Companies are able to leverage WFO to trigger voluntary attrition over and above firing. More bucks for them.
Also govt loves to make people spent money either for taxes or to circulate economy.
Govt is not bothering about the people they have other agendas to win elections. Only they want 30% tax.
@@phanindra40this is only on corporate employees whom they can force not the small companies in other sector where employees earn in cash .
Lateral employment means - Blue collar workers around office, cleaning, maintainnig parking...etc? Those agencies are at HIGH PROFIT margins, giving stinking peanuts to the employees, who are very YOUNG, SCHOOL DROPOUTS, MID aged Wives...but thats a bigger social problem - as Education is COSTLY but not giving any confidence in skill improving....
@@hydtechietalks3607 so taxes are paid by large companies employees to address these social problems . Also if we see the infrastructure today which was boasted so much is all submerged in rain water . Why it’s large companies employees working behind the desk paying their taxes honestly bear all the brunt of India’s development. While rest of the population is either fulfilling their feudal aspirations or living in ghettos enjoying deep slumber .
Why don't Indian IT companies build satellite offices in Tier2 & Tier3 cities? They are easy to invest and loyal employees from their natives or close by towns/ villages. For IT you just need electricity, Internet backbone & AC with seats. This can reduce congestion in metros and tier1 cities. Zoho company is a classic example of it.
how will big builders make money and how will politicians will get their cut.
There are satellite offices for infosys also in Jaipur, Kolkata, vizag
They have started like COGNIZANT in Bhubaneswar and Indore.
If they do this then their big big 3-4 offices in same tech cities become goost house no one their except local people's majorities are outsider. And for this plan master minds are state government of tech cities they will lose their commission. 😊
Most of the politicians invested in tech park at any cost they don't want real estate to come down in urbans . Other direct and indirect business folks are putting pressure on politicians to ask IT employees to come to office so that , they can improve cab business, hotels, IT parks, tea coffee, pan , bakery and many more you can think of.
traffic in bengaluru makes me sick to go for office why IT company prefer certain places why not all other places
Cognizant CEO is a labor contractor(thekedar).
Salesforce CEO is an actual engineer and productive person. 😅
Why don't they give desktop then? Stop asking employeed to login from home post 8PM & before 8AM.
Agree
Agreed 💯
I want to clarify that this is not meant as a personal remark, but it is possible for them to handle the desktop situation. If you approach your manager with this question, they would gladly authorize a desktop for you or themselves, which you can use whenever they require. It is not a major concern for them or the company as they can easily arrange a desktop through IT.
Issue is they won't because then they can't ask you to login from home.
Governments will indirectly push companies to work from office as it increases revenue and also increases small scale / medium scale employment. If you were to go to office , you would then surely buy dresses, shoes, belts, make up items(for ladies). You would then use some form of transport which would consume petrol/diesel or metro or cab. I am sure you would eat out with your friends in canteen or in restaurants and then head out for a beer in the evening. This whole cycle is lost when you work from home which the government cannot afford.
valid point
Exactly. Govt is also working like a corporate firm. They just want people to increase consumption, spending, travel and it gives more taxes to govt coffers. Apart from this offices also becoming more toxic and filled with negativity due to all these layoffs, hire freeze etc.
Government want tax money and we want peace
What the gov doesn't get is that the savings help people make bigger purchases and more vacation days
a big office filled with employees generates hundreds of blue collar jobs
I am huge supporter of WFH where it makes sense as you don't have to live in congested cities with sub standard living . Working from Cities is huge burden on overloaded cities.WFH decentralises and people and brings prosperity to small towns/villages in long run. All the IT companies will eventually move to work from anywhere model. Otherwise they are going to lose talent and business eventually.
True that !!
Is talent even valued today? lol its just real estate and other things they value
There is another underline reason. That is our offices are mostly in SEZ zones and these IT companies enjoy the tax rebate with a promise that they will bring these many footfalls in that area. So when it comes to revenue vs employees, we all know whats they will choose!
Work from office becomes a lot of distractions. You can't go into focus zone especially when working on complex problems
Common stop it.
Get yourself a room and shut it until u finish it.
Wfh has lot of benefits compared to office
I work in the top MNC of India, It is literally like school with lot of chit chatting with side by side cabins, plus travel eats atleast 3 hours in city traffic.

WFH will be and should be new trend .
Imagine getting a salary of 50K / month but company forces you to work from office and hence you need to shift near to office where the rent prices are 25K / month for 1 bhk. 12K/month for PG with 4 sharing without any space in room left.
If u choose to stay in cheap flats they are too far adding your travel time 4 hours/day. Not to mention intense heat of sun we need to face, or travelling difficulties due to lack of public transport.
Working from home saves 4hours travelling + 2 hours when you need to settle in your workspace.
WFH saves rent +travel expenses = less financial burden. While rent prices are doubling in 6 months we are not given any hike or 5% hike yearly basis. Keeping us poor.
Not to mention 30% government taxes+ 20-50% surcharge tax on monthly salary.
Not to mention the food prices going up from 10 rupees to 250 rupees for same alloo paratha in just 2 years. Food poisoning due to poor food and water quality.
We are not employee we are slaves, forced to be poor no matter how much you earn.
If a consumer pays GST taxes from their poket to compensate gor the taxes companies need to pay for their profit thenwhy salary person pay taxes? Why not companies pay our taxes from their pockets to compensate for our taxes?
Very apt! We are paying GST for everything, we should not pay anything more for conveyance or housing to be part of an office
Bang on ‼️
lets start own companies and give a kick back....
I want but i have no knowledge....
They need your life force to work for them, not just your skills. How can a mananger feel he is one without the physical re-evaluation of all other people around him?
I worked once at an office and they told me I am not emotionally inveseted: yes I am not, what are you my family? It is too late, people have options already! Companies must evolve around people's lifestyle not the other way around. Covid taught us what really matters
Good on you, I hope you leave that company soon
😊
Micro Management used to reduce appraisal, insider threats like this there are a lot more reasons for the companies to prefer "work from office" but for employee perspective it will save a huge load of money in "work from home" because they don't need to relocate to other cities, health issues, commuting exp., food exp. is expensive if relocated, rental exp. for relocated place as well as family residence stayed in different city, etc.
I have decided to work from home only ! It's my preference and I will stick to it. Unless my work place is not more than 20 to 30 minutes. Moreover, the infrastructure must be good and ergonomic. Can't spend my precious life and time commuting. No money can bring back time or my health.
Which company you work for ?

If Data is the issue and becomes a business reason for RTO , this concern must be already existing all over the world as WFH/Hybrid/Remote jobs are exist for many years in USA and other countries.
This is for more of control, India's SEZ guidelines and revenue impacts of others ancillary iob sectors rather than mutual benefit of employeee and organisation.
If this RTO is taken seriously, it will burst as employee retention will be tough once World is back with GDP growth rates green and inflation is normal.
Hybrid is something companies can try out.
But next 10 years employee retention is crucial as training in new era of AI technologies along with existing tech stack/domain expertise will become toughest job.
Govts want centralisation of growth zones, controls instead of decentralisation and sustainable development.
If there's anything which the pandemic has taught us is that productivity is not a function of how far one commutes for work. Unnecessarily burdening a few cities takes a toll on its resources and quality of life.
Hybrid. But not weekly. It should be monthly 5 days WFO.
Why 5 days? Why can't it be completely remote?
In my project there is only one reason for returning to the office -> leadership has started monitoring attendance...... My project team is distributed among locations....I sit in the office alone and return home
Same with most of the people
TCS?
@@PujaKumari-oh5ej Cognizant
If most of the white collar well defined jobs can be done remotely, it will make big cities, big office campus, completely redundant or obsolete which will spill very badly to ecosystem of jobs surrounding them, so lets say if i can work remotely, why would i purchase a flat in bangalore or mumbai and imagine this on a scale of thousands and millions of employees.. what will happen to commercial real estate prices , it would be such a disaster that governments might not be ready to face and i think Governments want to push back big corporates to ensure employees work from office and cover up with sugar coated jargons like better team coordination...This is the only reason
I am assuming all the replies are from IT guys but we are less in nunber as compared to all office going people.Peple who need to go to office are already going. We have the option to WHF which will free up some resources and traffic for those who can not wfh.Companies dont understand that
True, yes lots of white collar non IT jobs although technically can be done remotely does not mean they will be considered for remote jobs in near future , example CA's Lawyers, Income tax officials etc,
Return to office is now a different situation. The amount of focus required from a person sitting isolated in a quiet room is far more than in an office space with lot of distractions - gossips/chit chat/manager discussions that has no end result/chai and sutta breaks when you are most focussed.
The higher spectrum of the companies departments usually come office to set deadlines/ agendas/ understand their staff's psychology/ learn from the more skilled juniors etc. but they don't contribute much when it comes to ground work.
Yes, we have nursery kids in office as well talking rubbish. This is why most employees leave India I think 😂
Other than driving and drinking tea no reason to go to office just manage for productivity
One negative of wfh is that freshers don't get the proper guidance. Being fresh out of college they lack the work ethics that is needed for disciplined work from home.
There is politics pressure to reopen the offices so that their relatives business partners and so called real estate people could increase the land rate and can run the restaurants, malls, theatres, petrol bunks etc which all are majorly depended on IT people's.
Work from home + holding multiple jobs is the new trend and will become normal in few years from now. Only less competent people will go to office and stick to a single source of income, in this era of remote work.
You mean to say idiotic managers 😂😂
Carbon footprint how many vehicles , traffic, pollution..
Most of these Service companies are build on SEZ and get a tax break! Those regulation wants employees to be in office or loose on tax cut. Plus powerful folks have invested in real-estate in those Big cities > They dont want the Prices to go down due to lack of economic activity! As such there is Arm twisting of CEO as well who are just an Employee in most cases (Will special powers and some shares) > They have to listen to Board who might also be owning a Realestate stake and other business. In reality WFH is much better in terms of costs and those companies know it but cant do much! No wonder why TCs and Info are opening offices in tier 2 cities !!
I prefer a hybrid model of 30% WFO and 70%. WFH.
People always say "Environment Environment" yet drive to work. We need a law that MAXIMUM allowed in office is 1 day to reduce traffic. Any company that wants more than 1 day in office should be SHUTDOWN by government.

Nowadays everyone is on teams, because of this office is like vegitable market, i had to cancel one meeting because person at other end was in office and all her coworkers were on teams on different meetings, at her end it was like a vegitable market, bacground noices, so many people speaking
good comparison, CEO's wishes and employees wishes are totally different. One has power, the other need to listen to the power or take the highway.
It’s all about control more than anything else.
The saheb culture is very much imminent in the private sector.
Managers also need to justify that they are doing something so they have to call people to office.
My guess is that they want to concentrate wealth only at few cities,
If you have wfh you will spend the cash in the local tier 2 ,tier 3 cities which cumulative increase the economy, but they are concentrating the wealth only in few cities of the whole India which is causing inequality in wealth distribution
The problem with IT is that the organization's have formed a union and take a unified strategy for all employees, however there isn't any union for IT employees and employers can do whatever they want.
i too prefer remote (work from home) but i believe companies should organize mandatory quarterly meetups for atleast 1 week so that all can get together work together for 5 days and then enjoy the other 2 days and return back.
Agreed but company should pay for flight fare and hotel fees
Point 1 -We are earning and end of the month give payments to - Real state - rent/new purchase, Auto/cab for travelling, maid/servant for cooking and cleaning. Point 2 - Company invested high amount in real stat, company can use it and keep it, they use or not. Always need to pay, Services providing in office, cab and food , vendor wont get anything if people not come. Government wants to run this country. So they want to cover this from our salary to maintain stability by creating new policies to forcing companies to call employees in office.
point 3: Integrity and security matters but how some companies ok to give WFH and some not, think about it. all companies using same rules, if they don't follow, government will play service based companies game. you already knows the story of tesla in india.
point 4: No one wants to see getting rich, neither government nor companies by saving money.
CITY TRAFFIC is the biggest STRESS.... DAILY 3 hrs of travel...
So true, everyone wants to use generic words than actual reasons...
Work from Home actually saves lot of time which could be use to do productive work. But lot of employees does misuse this golden opportunity and finally companies vote to stop WFH😢
I work for TCS and their mandate is all day WFO, with some exception you can still work from home, but not yet clear on its implications. No wonder in such a policy because the outlooks of the whole company resonate with that of an avg. Indian Engineering College. They treat employees as students as in an avg. college.
i know a guy who posted similar comment on LinkedIn. and his manager asked him to be not so open on LinkedIn
@@PavanSathiraju Proves my point
I think we have one more point which impact on tax from govt. Splly SEZ localed companies will lose advantage as Govt has some rule around it. Every year after covid, it is extending by an year.
as a software engineer, we are being forced to come to office these days. They are tracking the swipe in/out activities and everyone is in pressure to showcase what features have been built otherwise there is a fear of losing the position. I have been working for over a decade, i have never seen such insecurity in the full time positions.
Being a manager myself - working from office reduce productivity. We also save on shift allowance. Client don't care if people are working from home. In US WFH is a culture. Realestate can be dissolved. Infosys started it
Unfortunately a lot of the senior management in the Indian IT companies, whose only USP has been cost-arbitrage, come from the Call-center background (early 2000's). Naturally, no matter how decorated their CV's might look like, the fact is these folks lack any serious hard Technical skills. Over the years, they have naturally grown to positions where they lead projects/ programs or even capability set ups. This lack of any skill in general is the main driving force behind RTO in the Indian IT services space- deep insecurity and lack of trust.
Exactly my manager comes to office for 4 hours and take attendance, open his gutter chaap unprofessional language on the floor and gives a lecture on attendance, quality, ethics, culture, run away in 4 hours. Thanks to him we can't bear him for 9 hours.
I work for a billion dollar product company and we are 100% remote.
There's no point in us wasting multiple hours in the traffic, here in Bangalore, as we very well understand our roles and responsibilities and strive to achieve them without the need for any micromanagement.
Office is better bcozz in office we can have proper login nd log off tume but in home per day 13 to 12 hrs loginn😢
Your are working with which company?
@@soujanyaghosh3632 I'm not able to expose that one of the top American MNC 🤣
Correct nowadays in the industry this happens to employees who come to the office without the realistic reason
Frankly saying, saving money and time is important now a days, WFH is best choice because individuality, group chats (no hidden work), mental relief, no traffic, shift timing comfort in home (seating comfort 🤣), recognition and performance will be easily notifiable by company based on that best opportunities will get. No cunning and no dependency is needed and no groupism.
I will not choose WFO, unless govt reduce the petrol and travel cost and time and house rents to much.
Simple WFO is good for bachelors to enjoy and WFH is good married humans (unless if you have peaceful wife or husband 🤣🤣🤣)
I think its about controlling attrition these companies have seen in COVID times, also it could be about killing competition coming from smaller companies without office space by setting up a standard practice of working from office..
For a country like india WFH will help a lot. Somebody mentioned financial independent I would say that is very important in todays unpredictable world.
Perfectly said. 👍
It's tough for employees not getting raise for various reasons. As income is the same expenses doubled. I see it as a challenge to move back from low expense location to high expense location back without any revision. Forcing to look for change. Or manage somehow.
My team members says they are comfortable and more productive at home than office. They say that Traffic times commutation kills . Personally I prefer at working home with few exceptions. When there is any communication gap in remote workung ,call out for a meeting in person for 2-3 days that depends on the need and criticality. Otherwise don't ask for RTO .. COVID times yielded the good results from all IT companies , no one can override the historical outcome.
Work from home removes the anxity of travelling, pollution and most of the people are working from different locations. Prefer wfh
Pavanji..the other major factors are 1)HR strategy to get as many of bench pool (employees living outside company location) to voluntarily quit & claim notice pay.2)Claim tax exemption under STPI/SEZ rules.
I also prefer WFH over WFO. But 1-2 points we observed that those members who are WFH and especially GenZ are very much lacking in collaboration. They are spending a whole day just to clarify a couple of doubts. Some resources are taking WFH for granted. They are not developing social skills and how to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams which hampers their own growth. I agree that there should be flexibility but we can't ignore the cons of WFH as well.
One of the reasons for RTO by IT companies is that there have been a lot of people who have been moonlighting, and if you think from a company's perspective they will obviously mandate RTO if these moonlighting stories are true
Being concerned about moonlighting is a 3rd world concern. What Infosys did to catch the employees would be illegal in a lot of developed countries and those employees would be getting fat payment checks as compensation.
@@shubhamrane7020 I know that. All I am saying is that real estate cost is not the only reason for the RTO mandate. All these IT companies have a lot of other reasons to call employees to office now
Everything is a risk based decision.. As long as there are mitigation controls that is responsibility of security teams. If they are incapable.. security teams should be terminated as they are incapable to understand the risks and manage them..
Most real estate 'overlords' are in hand with few in the Gov.
Also if people are WFH, there are less people moving..be it through their own vehicles, or cabs or public vehicles, which drastically reduces the income from taxes like fuel.
If there are less people in a city(if they work from their own places, which may be in other cities, in other states) the indirect taxes collected are also reduced.
This depends on individual employee and employer so we can not judge the situation, why they spend rentals for office space and close WFH
this can include cybersecurity concerns
Given the current business environment, many companies are pushing for RTO, knowing very well that not all employees will be able to come to office and would eventually leave. WFH became a norm during COVID, many companies let go there office spaces to reduce costs, now without enough office space, insisting on RTO, which leads to attrition , is another way of reducing the overall cost to the company and thereby improving the profitability. It is just another tool for companies to reduce cost.
I work standalone no teams at my office location, practically there is no difference in working from home or office still being forced to come to office which does not have any logic. Should be flexible case to case. Its just to swap office travelling 400 km one way weekly, family also have to suffer weekdays when. I away from home , child miss me etc
Inefficient micromanagement by sole managerial post employees who typically do nothing at office
Productivity, team building, progress mapping can all be tracked and made possible through visiting the office once or twice every week, these metrics can be tracked while working remotely as well.
5 days WFO is clearly a decision to restrict the freedom of the employees and corporates are enabling it bcs of the current scarcity in the job market.
It is all about the ecosystem or the chain which breaks if wfh flexibility is given on a permanent basis. A lot of small businesses depending upon the employee availability in the office. Cab Mafia putting pressure on corporates to comply with the contracts for transport facilities for employees. A number of small vendors loss their business. Real estate also a big reason. Million of dollars have been spent to buy land in big cities. Endless reasons.
It is not only employees who will have to adjust with work from office.
If work from office will be mandatory, clients as well as managers will also have to adjust with less productivity.
There are very few guidelines for IT employees in general & government labour laws do not provide a base guide for IT workers. Also government needs to look after other jobs that are generated when IT guys come to office. There are no unions for IT workers which can discuss this problem and establish a yard stick.
I think a state wide union is must to solve such issues.
20 years experience in IT. Working from home since 4 years. The bunch of people pitching for work from office are the non technical management. Never had any requests to work from office when working with technical management regardless of domain.
Also governments need to collect property taxes from IT offices. Many IT parks are in SEZs which gave tax breaks to companies, but if employees are working from home, they lose that incentive.
Cognizant/ TCS are labor contractors.
Salesforce is an engineering company.
So good,,
Very basic observation is, Working from home are more productive than working from office. Due to which employees will get into more stressful situations to complete the work that's planned during the work from office days. This is what i also heard from many of my friends and colleagues.
The hassle and time of commute in air , noise pollution isn't a reason enough ? Isn't improved quality of life in wfh a huge benefit?
WFH does create a skill up vacuum for every level of role as there are nuances while picking up a new skill, which is completely absent in remote working using any of the connectivity / productivity tools. Further, in India most of the Engg. graduates are from mofussil towns and the infrastructure quality, needed for online remote work, is unreliable and which leads to deliveries missing timelines and employees gets distracted by family members who really don't understand the criticality of timely delivery in IT industry and puts pressure on the employee to take work lightly.
I prefer to work from home..
Recession output indirectly... Voluntary layoff automatically.
Offices should be smaller cities. That way if your employees in Mumbai, Delhi & Bengaluru want to work from home... then its more than welcome.
But opposite will never be true.
Bottom line everybody is thinking about business no one thinking about employees
If you don't like certain policies then why not leave and go to the companies where you are finding favourable opportunities/policies?
I was only one working from.offshore for client , I was repeatedly asked to come to office.
If I have to come office and join every meeting via Teams or zoom then what is the point here. I have no issue while coming to office but employee should be given enough flexibility to take work from home as well. Meeting once or two time in month is enough in IT sector😊
If you are in Banking sector then definitely you have to connect from office. Manufacturing definitely you cannot WFH but in IT sector then yes there can be flexibility. What i am trying to highlight is that WFH depends on in which sector you are from
Problem is they want RTO at the same time and after hectic travelling they again want to attend late night calls
Wfo if billable to clients, it generates more revenue to the companies.
It is the lobby from builders, education institute owners , auto unions, main unions, worker unions, delivery guys unions and what not. You are missing the whole point here.
Rents near Hyderabad IT corridors are crazy. Minimum ₹40000 for 3BHK. One man earning for his family will struggle and if he has two kids then salary won’t be enough. Added to that traffic is very bad with pollution 😢
With this logic, MP and MLAs perks should be deducted in proportion to their absence in their office and parliament.😊
Try a transformation working from home, change management is vetter in office.....
This is the humans behavior problem. Humans get first liberty, later they assume its their birth right.
It happens in this cae too. Companies gave whf due to corona. Now people are getting money sitting in home, so they show the opposition.
Keep in mind, companies already started sending jobs to low cost countries.
If you threatening don't do business here go to low cost countries and get cheaper value products. Bye.
