    This is mostly a review of the Akaso Brave 4 along with some comparisons between it and the Akaso EK7000, and some test footage. I really like some of the new features of the Brave 4. Akaso has done some big changes between the two cameras. I’ll walk you through the menu settings, and show you how I set up my camera.
    This is the first “real” video I’ve made with the Akaso Brave 4 • Akaso Brave 4 Review The image stabilization really improved the little shakes filming from a boat without any type of gimbal.
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I got answers back from Akaso Customer Service for the following questions:
    1. Menu options “Gyroscope” vs the “Anti-Shake” you use the gyroscope for image stabilized video, and the anti-shake for image stabilized photos.
    2. OSD stands for On Screen Display and is all of the information regarding your menu selections that is overplayed on the rear LCD.
    3. WDR is Wide Dynamic Range as I had correctly assumed.
    4. CAR-ACC mode is used when the camera is being employed as a dash cam.
    See the full product specs here www.akaso.net/...
    Please like, comment, and subscribe. I’d love to hear what you think about the camera.

      I would guess he used ONLY the cam mic which is rubbish. Music mainly IS used to cover for poor audio from mic. External mic would work wonders for editing.

      Thatone Dude you are correct. For some reason it sounded fine editing the audio in Splice, but sounded awful after uploading. I have purchased an external mike for better audio in my next video. I appreciated the comment though. It’ll push me to make better films. Stay tuned for a better video next time.

    New to the action cam world and needed some guidance on setup since the owners manual is rather lacking in many ways. Learned very useful info from you. Thanks for taking the time to do this video and reaching out to Akaso to clarify some of the settings. Good to know they respond to inquiries.

    I’ve used this camera a lot and for the money it’s great. My only issue is transferring images off the SD card. Using the built in wifi is clumsy and slow. My computer will recognize the images on the SD card when plugged in, but my iPad will not. I’m not sure why this is and Akaso couldn’t help me. They thought it might be a firmware issue, but trying another unit revealed the same issue.

    what do you think about the low quality/barely audible audio? Is it just me am I doing something wrong?

    • @Chogogo717
      @Chogogo717  Před 6 lety +1

      Lady Xavialune When in the waterproof housing your audio is almost useless on most action cameras. Outside of the camera you’ll need to be really close to the camera for good audio... really close. I learned that mistake making this film. Truth is though, most action camera footage will be played back to some awesome music with a dash of sound effects and the original audio probably won’t see the light of day. As a side note, most cameras including fancy DSLRs and such that have built in mics have terrible audio. If you want really good audio lol at getting an external mic, and you can add that audio to your final edit. When I look at what I payed for these cameras I am still ecstatic because I get great video footage.

    Great review. It for sure helped me make up my mind to purchase the Brave 4. I'm a newbie at all this and want the camera to mount to my kayak or helmet. I'll be coming back to reference all these great questions and responses. My questions: I believe I saw somewhere that the remote is not waterproof. I guess that means I would have to start recording before entering rapids. Will the camera record continuously until I manually stop it or does it timeout on it's own? Does time lapse have to be intentionally filmed separately, or can you edit video later to slow a section of the footage down? As far as sound quality goes, I want to learn how to add music to video. Do you mind explaining how to do this? Do you have to wait until you get home and download video onto a computer or can you perform edits and add music in the field when camera is synced to smartphone so it can be shared to FB? I also ask because once on FB or the cloud, one could then delete the video to free up space on the memory card. Which memory card do you recommend? I don't have a 4K computer or phone, so will I be better to choose 1080p/30fps? And finally, is the camera mount compatible with GoPro mounts? Lots of questions! Thanks in advance!

    • @Chogogo717
      @Chogogo717  Před 6 lety

      Nick Weissmiller the camera itself is not waterproof until it is in the housing, so I’d use it in the housing for paintball. It would make for easy cleanup, and protect the camera, and in the event you damage the housing (they are tough) it’s a $12 replacement part on Amazon.

  • @ClarkStarr

    Any thoughts on cold weather performance? Was leaning towards a gopro 5 (really like that the camera itself is waterproof), but concerned with what I've been reading about shut down. I realize that's a battery issue, but is it shared across all action cameras?

    • @Chogogo717
      @Chogogo717  Před 6 lety

      Clark Starr all batteries are affected by temperature, but my personal experience with the Brave 4 and EK7000 has been fine. I haven’t had any huge issue with cold weather bothering the battery performance. If you’re worried about it you could always keep the spare batteries in a warm place. If you’re skiing or something where you’re not on the water I’d say put the spare batteries in an inner pocket of your jacket. Hats what I do for my DSLR spare batteries.

    Hi Caleb this really helped a lot with the settings. You got +subscriber. I have a question regarding Time Lapse, what is the concept here with time lapse? Is it a video that we are recording in this cam as time lapse? or we are taking pictures to with different intervals ?

    • @Chogogo717
      @Chogogo717  Před 5 lety

      Time laps simply compresses a given timeframe into a different timeframe. For example you shoot one frame every five seconds for 15 minutes that’s 180 frames. If your playback rate is 30 frames per second you have a have a 6 second clip.

      It was hand held which absorbs a lot of mechanical vibration you would get if it were mounted directly to a handle bar mount. I really want to see how it does dealing with the small but persistent vibrations for RC vehicle use. I'm just looking to accent my RC truck footage with some POV shots for fun. I mounted my EK7000 to it and it's just awful. lol

Scroll down with the side buttons until you come to “time-lapse record.” Select that by pressing g the shutter release. Select your interval for your time lapse you want by using the side buttons to scroll through and the shutter release to select. Use the front mode button to go back to the video shooting mode. Start recording your time lapse. When you are done recording go back through to the setup the same way you did before and select your interval to off to back to normal video shooting.

      Brad Haines well I have tried for 3 days and all recommended apps are complete failures and worthless. It appears the only way to get the files is to remove the SD card or use micro usb to transfer... I removed the card to view the clips in my phone but because the files are so big they only play slowly. I used androvid to convert to 1080 so I can hopefully then view on phone and tv. I think its possible to use a USB to play movies to TV and I havent tried to use a tv with wifi to connect to the camera for viewing but it seems that may be the best way to view them in 4k. Hopefully there is a way to play full sized raw files without converting because I have better things to do. If I can't find a solution I will go back to go pro because at least the app works. You should read the reviews for the Akaso App. Hilarious. Good luck tranferring a file via wifi

One thing I love about the Brave 4 over the EK7000 is the date/time is remembered by the camera wh n you do a battery change. Also, I LOVE the image stabilization. It makes a huge difference even without a gymbal.

      Cheers Caleb, I have ordered a Brave 4 , for all the extra options that you showed but mainly for the gyro / gimbal. (Son has bike / Go kart / Hoverboard that he films from) Thanks for your review.

    I enjoyed your video and watching you, you're kind of cute but I also need to know are you able to charge the spare battery when it is not inside the camera, so basically if I need to record while I'm on the go all day, can I charge the spare battery with a portable charger when not inside the camera, please let me know thank you so much cutie!*

      Blair Fox Love You can. It comes with a two-battery charger that plugs into a USB power source. You can charge just one battery at a time.

      I have a question about the akaso brave 4, and I'm hoping you can answer it for me like you answered my last question. I will be going on a Cruise vacation for 7 days and I want to be able to record everything I do in 4K, so I'm trying to figure out how many 64GB memory cards will I need. So basically how long will the akaso brave 4 record in 4K mode using a 64GB memory card, so can you please let me know so I can figure out how many 64GB memory cards I will need to last me the whole 7 days. And thank you so much I really do appreciate your help and I look forward to hearing back from you... Sincerely, Blair Fox Love!*🤗🛳️📷📸

      Blair Fox Love I shoot everything I do in 1080p partly because I like to shoot action at 60FPS, the battery lasts a lot longer, and when I edit it doesn’t take a monster of a computer to process the 4K files. Rather than have a ton of memory cards you could alternatively transfer the videos to your phone for storage (depending on its memory capacity) or even further. Upload it to cloud storage every night. There are also some great memory card backup devices on the market. Cards are cheap too, so if you have a fistful of them you can’t go wrong there either.

    CAN I ZOOM WITH IT ??

      Joe Vinci it doesn’t have zoom, but if you wanted to crop in in post it’s a large file, so that shouldn’t be a big deal.

    Anyone had an issue with the dash mount, the camera will just not fit in it no matter how I try, useless!!!

      Nigel Ackroyd one of the mounts I have is a little looser than the other. Did you contact Akaso? They have a good tech support group that does their best to help in any way they can.

      Nigel Ackroyd that’s why I didn’t mess with getting it replaced. One good design change with the V50 was they added a 1/4-20 insert into the camera, so no more bulky frames.🤘🏻

    You get what you pay for. This garbage cost $99 dollars for a reason! Buy a Go-Pro and be done with it!

      SGT ROCK my experience with Go Pro has had just as many positive and negative outcomes as I have had with any other camera. I don’t feel like I’m alone when I say action cameras of all manufactures are not long for this world. They get abused and put through the ringer, so naturally they don’t last but a few years if you are really active. You should get what you pay for, and I do not feel like you do with Go Pro.
