    Great tip with regards to the tack line knot!
    I was on a J120 one day in a big blow and after the tack was blown it maxed out at the knot and proceeded to pull the jammer out of the deck (Sheared the back bolt and bent / broke the fronts) and luckily did not kill anyone on the rail as it went flying forward.

    Great explanations to go with the video so it is all clear. Assuming you run the tapes, can you launch from the companionway in a reverse of this process? We are struggling to feed it all down the hatch in a J/88 with less than standing headroom and other than room in the pit this seems to be a lower stress series of steps.

      You can. From the companionway, set the tack first, oversheet, and when hosting it : be sure to guide the sail away from the rig

    Letter box in strong wind... implies the main is not reefed. So late reefing downwind when spinnaker up?

    Please show how to quickly and correctly remove a spinnaker from the keel? And then we do it all the time, it seems to me, wrong)) Thank you for the video)

    As someone who’s looking toward a possible future sailing hobby, I’m curious, is it possible to manage a spinnaker while single-handing a boat, or is that a stupid idea?

      I was thinking the same thing. I would also like to get into sailing one day but it would only be me, myself, and I. I've seen people singe hand sail but not sure how practical it would be. Especially when things get dicey. I know for one, having electric/hydraulic sail winchs are a must.

    • @Metal_Auditor
      @Metal_Auditor Před rokem +1

      @@Recklessness97 yeah it seems like modern boats are all moving toward electric and hydraulic winches, and I think modern autopilots are really useful too. Maybe in 10 years when a lot of these newer boats are showing up in the used boat market I’ll be able to afford one.

      Plenty of sailors use their spinnaker single handedly, and not only racers.
      Socks and furlers can help on big boats, allowing you to manage these sails when the wind blows.

      I flew the 80m symmetric on my last 10m boat singlehanded. It came down when true wind reached 15knts. I now have a 100m asymmetric on a12m boat and it's more difficult, I'm getting a furler for it.
      I dropped the symmetric into the foredeck hatch. Halyard streams over the back of the boat with a turn on the winch to dampen drop speed and remove kinks. I drop halyard by ½ meter then put a slip knot in at mast foot turning block,
      leaving the jammer open .I can then sit on foredeck, pull the slip knot and stuff kite into hatch from one place. I don't have electric winches or furler and can't see how they would help during the drop.

    Apart from the overhead shots (fantastic drone control) the camera was in the wrong place for all of that. Cameras on the stern facing forward could and would have caught all of the details coupled with the explanation .. . ....
