In this video I will show you how to extract the audio track from video files on iOS 15.
You can also extract audio from video by using HitPaw Video Converter: bit.ly/3NiHn7b.
This can be helpful to those of you wanting to edit the audio of your video files on an audio application.
perhaps you have a video stream that you have downloaded and want to listen to the audio only.
It can also be useful if you need to upload the audio track of a video to a podcast platform.

I do see a folder that it’s downloaded to. No idea where the file goes.. it doesn’t ask me even though I selected that it should. Any advice please? Thank you
Appears every one is having the same issue of not being able to find files on Apple, Plus this method is outdated, and the new method doesn’t work. For the price of an iPhone it sure is not user friendly and very very cumbersome, and every update changes everything you already understood 😮

OMG, Thank you so much! I do a lot of video editing on my iPhone and I have watched a bunch of videos, no one has explained it like you! I can finally pull just the audio from videos if needed without recording it on another device.

Followed step by step & it literally doesn’t work. The shortcut doesn’t show up under “save to files” at all
It says it's only a suggested action...... Just pull up the search bar and exit the media section and search for Save file instead.

I’m on the newest 15.4.1 update that’s out currently and I quite literally did exactly as you said, step by step and even triple checked afterwards and there are zero shortcuts showing up on that share list as yours was there…is it this new update? What am I doing wrong possibly or is this just an issue with this update?

I found it worked after I went back to the shortcuts “homepage” (keep pressing back) and then I went to share sheet and tapped the new shortcut in there. I think that makes it run once. Then it showed up on my share screen.
Followed your steps although finding some of the actions were more difficult to find on my slit-screen iPad. The conversion looks to be working but I’m not asked for a save location even though that option is set. So I don’t know where or even if my file is being saved.

@@hightower2321 Simply couldn’t be bothered to pursue it.
@@oastie3 I figured it out, it’s a glitch. Just gotta reset, and redo it until you see the line connecting the final step when you’re creating the shortcut
@@hightower2321 Thanks for that. I just gave up on it. Can’t even properly remember how I got into it. I think apps like Deaddle might offer an alternative approach but I’ve not felt the need.

Really helpful video, thank you so much. However, I seem to be a little stuck. When creating the shortcut, I did not receive the option of a save location and now that I did extract the audio, it shows saved but I can’t find the location of the saved file. Could someone please help me solve this issue?
You have to add a third action to the short cut which is labeled “save file”

Just a heads up, you HAVE to restart your phone in order for this to show up. But it definitely works. I’m ios 15.6

Thanks it’s a good tutorial but I recommend to set ‘ask each time’ instead of put a set name , because you will have different names for the audio

Why is there no settings option in shortcuts for me? I can’t have the shortcut show up in the share sheet or anywhere useful
Wow!!! This is just awesome. I had never paid any attention to iOS feature Shortcut… in fact had thought of something similar to desktop shortcut in windows.
But OMG! This is automation of existing apps using the APIs of those apps and passing input parameters and then using the output parameters to the next app in the workflow!!! And all these w/o writing a single line of code… just drag and drop… I really had no idea and never thought that Shortcut is capable of so much.
Not only did you solve my problem but also introduced me to a whole new area…. Thanks a ton 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

It should be there in the share menu. I have heard that some people that had this problem solved it with a restart?

Audio only toggle switch won’t turn on I have reset my phone, closed all apps. Nothing seems to work and no other users seems to have fixed it as well. Please help

Thank you for creating this video. I'm on IOS 15.0.2 but after I chose "Encode Media", my screen is different from you, I can't choose the "Audio Only", it doesn't allow me to choose it. My Shortcuts app is also updated. Please advice.

So if you selected Media, then went to Encode Media at the bottom, you should have a “show more” option under it which contains the audio only button.
A few other things are different but just type in exactly what he put has on his screen into the search bar if you don’t see it!
I gave it a go but it doesn’t seem to work. I followed all the steps. When I use the shortcut a little banner pops up at the top of the screen saying audio extracted. But it doesn’t ask me where to save it and I can’t find the file anywhere.
Is there a way of moving this audio file into apples music application?

I did it the same, but mine says 3 actions, and yours says 2. It doesn’t show up on my share page, so I definitely did something wrong. No matter how many times I watch.

I extracted the audio but I don’t know where it saved because following the steps in your tutorial mine had every option except for the save option on shortcuts app so I’m not sure where the file I extracted went can someone help.
You get to choose in the second step when you call up the shortcut command. You can save it to iCloud or the iPhone. Check if you have the files app installed if so it should give you that save option....

Hi There, I haven't tried this out on Android yet. So not sure. There may be some third party apps that could do it on Android. If you want to do it for free one track at a time on a PC or Mac you can use Audacity which is a free audio utility. If you want to convert in batches you can use HitPaw which is a specialised conversion utility that converts video and audio files. link in description above.
I have the new update; however, I cannot see my shortcut under the share button. Could you please advise what we should do?
Try a restart of the phone. Let me know if that works.

Has iOS16 changed this? My shortcut happens but it doesn’t ask me where to save my file and ultimately doesn’t work :-/
You should find that you can select where to save in the second stage after you already have created the shortcut. So when you initiate the command to extract audio from the share sheet.....

Can you retrieve the sound of a screen recorded video that has no sound? Is that audio stored anywhere in the iPhone? Thank you!
Most likely not. Apple have all sorts of restrictions on screen recordings and often block the audio. So if that is the case it isn't recorded in the first place and therefore not available at all.

Do you have an IOS 16 version? There were some changes with some of the initial steps and I can’t find them
I will be looking into this soon. I just downloaded iOS 16 my existing shortcut works but I have to go through and create it again to see if the process is different and then I'll cover it on my channel.
