I am 50 years old Hong Konger through and through. But I never heard of an extraordinary woman by the name Jackie Pullinger until literally yestraday. I am not a reglious man but her belief, her will, her work 40 years ago really moves me. She loves Hong Kong more than any of the people around me.

I greatly admire her humility. Guess that's why few have heard of her. Few non-believers would have the chance to read the book telling her story either.

Chasing the Dragon is a great book by Julia. A Christian gave my dear Dad alot of books in the 80's while he why dying from cancer. A few yrs later after travelling Asia and coming back to the UK I got addicted to heroin and I found the book and read it. I wish I had found someone to have helped me as I lost so much of my life and have health issues but I always remember this book.
    Definitely worth a read.

What I don't understand is that why God gives them a total deliverance from their addiction without a withdrawal from heroin and opium and yet people like me and many other people who have been affected by drugs and they have all gone through the most serious withdrawal

First I ask for forgiveness if I sound like a know it all, I’m not, HE is. Did you pray in tongues when you started feeling the withdrawal pains? That is what Jackie told her first gang member who was going thru withdrawal pains. He had told her it would not work, before she convinced him to try. Jackie told him, you now have Jesus to help, I will stay with you, and when you feel the pain, pray in tongues. She stayed with him and when he told her the withdrawal pains she told him quick, pray in tongues. Afterward he would exclaim, the pain went away. When he was set free, he asked if he could help her when she helps others get off drugs.

I met a mother whose son was sick from birth to 15. She attended a church that believed in miracles. The mom would stand up periodically at church asking for prayer for her son. After some years the pastor pulled her aside telling her it seems to be gods will her son was to be sick. Crying she took a step back and said not you nor anybody are going to get me to give up (or did she tell me quit?). She felt betrayed. She sensed she needed to find men of Faith who had loaded weapons who could aim and hit their target. Soon after her Avon lady told her of a church that sees miracles. Her and son visited the church 3 times. 3rd time son went up for prayer and was healed. Mom asked the Lord why do some get healed right away while others take a long, long time? The Lord told ITS A BATTLE AND JUST LIKE IN THE NATURAL EACH BATTLE IS UNIQUE. SOME ARE QUICK AND DIRTY WHILE OTHERS DRAG ON AND ON. Her son did tell me prior to healing he had read the book Healing the Sick by TL Osborn. I used to help a black woman pastor minister in local hospital each Sunday by playing guitar. After the service one Sunday I remember she mentioned many city people would ask for help getting off drugs, she would get them in a one of several city rehabs, not 1 person stayed off drugs, so she stopped for a while. Later she started sending them to Pacific Garden Missions in Chicago. She started seeing some, not all, go straight. It was then she thought they need to move to a different environment to have a fighting chance.

So sorry to hear Jamie... 🤕 I don't think healing is a formula. I wouldn't feel shame about having withdrawals. Some people are healed from withdrawals. Others are healed from family brokenness. Others are healed from mental health conditions that precipitated the addiction.
Jesus healed so many people in different ways. Look at the blind man. Even Jesus had to pray for him twice. He wasn't healed instantly.
I will pray that you continue walking with God dear Jamie. I have a neurological condition and mental health issues and also have seen how God has healed my back pain but not my mental health or neuro condition.
So I have to trust doctors and physios and OTs and Psychologists to help me. I have found people who God uses to heal me. Sometimes its also.okay to take medication to.cope with withdrawals.
      Grace to you Jamie 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Jackie Pullinger might also have a grace for praying for healing of addiction. But she might not be great with back pain. I know Heidi Baker in Mozambique has a grace for praying for the deaf and blind to be healed. But when I had back pain, I left her meeting with it still. My back was healed at another conference...
Try visit different members of the body of Christ who might have a different grace for you friend...
