Tom Dundee
His songs gave a timeline to my life. He is sadly and deeply missed among those who follow the Chicago folk scene. RIP Tom.
We were friends at DePaul, Beautiful man..glad to hear him again
Last time I saw Tom was on a beach in Rogers Park where he was tending his sailboat. We had a nice chat. He had practically saved my life with his music, catching him at No Exit, it was healing and uplifting. A gifted musician.
Tom was an old friend from St. Jerome grade school in Rogers Park - Tom Callahan was his name then .A great song writer and performer.
I sure miss my ol' friend
such a loss, such a talent and a sweet human being- you are missed, Tommy!
Love Reilly and Maloney and Tom Dundee - Miss him
That was a memorable performance that I attended. Tom Dundee was a talented singer and songwriter that incorporated heartfelt feelings and occasional humor into his songs that are really missed.
My only wish is that I could have seen him perform live more than once. Thanks for putting this up.
I can't believe this is here! I saw Jim Post perform this more than 30 years ago up at MSU. A beautiful woman I took bought Post's album and I have played it as background music for all these years. Wish I could hear Jimmy David do it again. Tom Dundee gave Post some great stuff to work with.
I only recently (within the last month) heard Tom Dundee's original version. I grew up with Jim Post's medley including this song, and I didn't know that he didn't write it for most of my life. I'm amused that this comment is 11 years old, talking about Jim Post doing it over 30 years prior. The original is lovely, especially the above recording, but I think I still prefer Post's a cappella version... with the accompanying harmonies my dad and I used to sing with it. :)
We were very good acquaintances in Seattle In the late 70's/early 80's. One of the nicest people I've ever known. I was shocked when I learned of his death a few years back. He's really changed the arrangement of Delicate Balance here from the version I was used to.
My dad taught me this one a while ago, and now we sing and play it together. This is the first time I've seen Tom Dundee perform it, though.
He sang at a house party for my 40th in Seattle..he did "Delicate Balance" just for me...it was wonderfull..and the Bramble and the Rose...he is missed...so glad to have this video...thank you..
Thanks so much for posting this and the other videos of Tom. He was a dear friend, very moving to get to see these videos. Thank you.
Ran into Tom playing one night at the NO Exit Cafe here in Chicago and have loved his music since. Thanks for posting this!
First time I've heard this by Tom. I first heard it by Reilly & Maloney in the 80s. Just finished "Face the Music" about Steve Goodman, several mentions of Tom inspired me to look this up. A fine song. BTW: anyone know who the dedication at the beginning is about?
Sure miss Dundee
I miss him too. We did a duo for a short time in the 90s. We drove accross the country and made terrible time. Stopping here for pie and coffee, there to shoot a few hoops at a high school. The boy knew how to live. I've just added a video of Tom and I singing a John Prine song together on my channel. Check it out here: czcams.com/video/_r8pMPbs_ac/video.html.
Nice. I like the original studio version better, though.
I miss Tom.
