  • On Tuesday February 8, 2023 I filled the bike up and got on the NYS Thruway at the Catskill Exit 21 which is milepost
113.89 and made it a few feet before the 1.5 miles sign before the New Paltz - Poughkeepsie - NY Route 299 Exit 18 which
is milepost 76.01 with the Cruise Control set at 80mph when the bike dipped and the Gear Indicator went from 6th to 1st,
then --, then it displayed 5th, followed by the flashing code and into Limp Mode. I was in the left or passing lane when I lost all
power but managed to stay composed enough to hit the Hazard lights and throw up my left arm to indicate I was going to
switch into the right lane. Fortunately, I had a few decent and alert people around me who realized I was in trouble and made
room for me to get on the shoulder without getting hit.
As you can see in the video I got my phone out to capture the still flashing code then simply shut the bike down and restarted it
as with no evidence that anything had happened. As I was near the Poughkeepsie exit I jumped off and pulled into the nearest
gas station to sit for a few to let my heart rate drop back down to normal. I couldn't have been in a clear spot next to a
handicap spot any more than 5 minutes on my phone plotting a scenic route home when one of the cashiers came out and told
me to move my bike because somebody needed to park there. It wasn't a handicap car but a commercial van who I guess
was going to do work there. Rather than explain my situation I quickly rattled off "I was just on my way in to prepay for gas
and a cup of coffee, but now I'll take as long as I like and purchase nothing. Have a nice day".
Rather than side street it in neighborhoods I wasn't familiar with I decided to jump back on the Thruway for two exits which
put me in Saugerties and the nice and twisty Route 32 heading North back home. Managing to put the old HD days of low revs out of my mind I used the Cruise Control with no problems at 80mph at 6500rpm in 5th gear for the 25 1/4 miles on the thruway and also the rest of the way home with the Cruise on in 6th at speeds from 40mph to 65mph with no problems. As a reference point 65mph in 6th gear lies directly at 5500rpm**.
Needless to say, I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!
    Keep those odometers turning!
