This is imo how AI should be used in the context of art creation. Not completely replacing artists, but a tool for them to use as part of the creative process
I mean they do this for just about every animated movie. You can watch a behind scenes clip and it’ll show where they would do stuff like this. It’s so they can make the characters move they want them to and to make face lines.
That's not ai, it's automatic inbetwewning. The computer takes pose a and c and creates an in-between pose for b depending on how complex the movement you need more or less key poses.
@diamondsx87 ok let's break it down, automatic in-betweening is used in 2-d cut out animation as well. Most western produced animated shows use cutout animation. In animation there are alot of jobs. You have the animators who create the movement and make them look realistic. They create the poses. The animation works with just these poses but it's looks better with in-betweens. Before computer animation a person would have the job of animator and someone else would have the job of inbetweening. Eventually that in-betweener would be come an animator. A computer takes the poses created by the animator and creates an in-between, but all its really doing is placing the character exactly in-between the two poses, it's up to the animator to get the spacing and timing right. If not the figure is just going to slide around the screen not having any really motive to move. The introduction of automatic in-between reduced the time it took to create an animated movie or TV show, but it doesn't do the actually work of animating, that's all done by the animator.
Thats… just how tweening works. Its built into most programs. Its not really ai, its more just your animation software figuring out how to connect the images between 2 frames, the animators still have a majority of the control making sure that the new in-between frame works with the rest of the animation, because the software most likely just took the easiest path between points A and B without taking into account the fundamental rules of animation
