I actually had a hard time with this teaching, because it hit pretty much like a Boeing 777 hits a tiny island runway in stormy weather. But then, if teachings don’t make me sweaty and red in the face once in a while, then I start to wonder if I’m at the right church. This is the second time I’m hearing this message, and I may be inclined to watch it at least one more time. I’m so thankful for the Lord’s gift in Pastor Brett.
An excellent example of showing agape love is Desmond Doss in Hacksaw Ridge. As a medic in the US Army, he refused to carry a gun but insisted on being in the battle. He is credited with saving the lives of 75 men, many of whom despised him before deployment because of his refusal to carry a weapon. The movie does a great job of showing his love, not only in deed, but also in tone and attitude.
I haven't even gotten to the teaching yet. Twice in two days I just only weep and weep and weep and weep during the worship. Hands lifted UP to the LAMB of GOD, the soon coming KING OF SAINTS. I was about twelve when I decided that I wanted to like going to prayer meeting. I didn't like it at the time. I thought that God would honor my intention, and help me with the feeling. It took several months, of telling myself "I like prayer meeting", whenever I thought of doing it. Somewhere towards the end of the year, I noticed that I Did like going to prayer meeting. It worked - God helped me change my mind. That was in about 1982. I'm 52 now.
Oh dear I have enjoyed you preaching but now I have so much I need to work on , I hope the Holy Spirit helps me because I find myself being hopeless, I constantly find as I learn that most of the time my greatest enemy is me , my flesh . I think I will have to go though your preaches a few time to take it all in. Thankyou, God Bless you in Yeshuas name
I've often thought how John is referred to 5 times as "the disciple whom Jesus loved." Of course, Jesus loves everyone, but John seemed to have a special place in Jesus' heart. When you read the 5 books John wrote you see that he was gentle, loving, kind, humble, but unafraid to preach the Gospel everywhere he went. While Jesus will always be our main example of how to live, you can't help but notice John's life as an example of living a life of God's unconditional love, as per Brett's sermon today. There's an early church writing about John facing the wrath of Aristodemus, chief priest in the Roman Empire. While some of us may be tempted at this point to start preaching hellfire and brimstone to him before we die, John instead appealed to him what he could do to take away his anger. (The story is that the priest challenged him to drink poison. If it didn't harm John, the priest would believe in God. And of course John claimed Jesus' promise of Mark 16:18 and drank the poison.) On a side note, John was exiled because the Romans couldn't kill him. They tried boiling him in oil, but he kept preaching from the oil pot, lol. He was eventually allowed to leave Patmos and it's said he presumably died of old age somewhere that's not recorded. I can't help but wonder if Jesus gave him immortality (because he couldn't be killed), that maybe he's still alive somewhere, reading the Scriptures on his ipad. It's neither here nor there, but just a thought.
If we love our enemies and treat them well, we will truly show that Jesus is Lord of our life. This is possible only for those who give themselves fully to God, because only he can deliver people from natural selfishness. We must trust the Holy Spirit to help us show love to those for whom we may not feel love. Amen 👊
Loving enemies truly hurts in so many ways. Unimaginable sometimes. So tired of a hurt heart and soul. Keep waking up every day though. Have to keep hanging on as I've been hearing and reading.
Thank you Lords for bringing me out of death and teaching me your agapa love and how I needed to live eternally and forgive unconditionally. And how you with is confirming it all the time. God is Love and we need to live in that love ❤️ Pray the Lords will be done and your heart to be softened if your having trouble with those who have really hurt you. Allow God to bless them or what be His will if that’s vengeance or not but remember He’s a loving God and knows all our hearts and minds. The way I learned to love those "impossible" to love was through forgiveness. The most powerful word in the English language, to me, is forgiveness & when you forgive you can change hate to love. I also think that if we take the word hate, meaning to love less, I think, not sure but I think, in Hebrew, hate the action, don't hate the person. Like hate the sin, not the sinner. Remember, Jesus said on the cross, forgive them for they know not what they do.
I do can't wait for him to gather his people completely. Hope I'm one of the worthy ones. Also can't wait for the different mindset. Will be unimaginable compared to what we all are accustomed and programmed to.
Because this is such a very important message for the days we live in, I've determined to listen to it every day this week. And each time I listen I hear a new truth. I take notes, and each time I've found something else noteworthy.

So Pastor Brett, how do we reconcile the difference in what was done to Jesus vs what happens to a child victim of violent sexual abuse. Jesus chose to be crucified. A child doesn't choose to be abused. Yet we as victims are called to forgive and love. There's a real significant difference here.
Loving one's neighbor, and enemies, doesn't have any exit clauses. There's no 'unless you don't like them', or 'unless it's too hard.' Nope. All means all.
I like to think that I would do likewise. But I'd be real tempted to ditch the guy and leave him in the dust. Forgiving my enemies is Very hard for me. I've been praying about it for about three years, to seek my enemy so I can forgive him. Very tough, in the moment.
