Climbing the Karakoram Highway on Calaveras Dome

- Thomas Burkowski and I linked up for a weekend warrior mission to Calaveras Dome south of Tahoe. We climbed Karakoram Highway and Wall of The Worlds a couple weekends back. This is probably the only climbing video I'll be posting this summer.

Just ran across this. Damn! That's a beautiful route. Something for everyone, crack, dihedral, friction. The dihedral reminds me of Diedre in Squamish, the friction of Crest Jewel in Yosemite. Much harder pitches of course, and I never climbed 5.11, even back in the day (started in the '70's with pitons). And I usually don't bother watching vids of harder stuff these days, but this is one fine video, as well as one fine climb.
Thomas reminds me of 70's Batman climbing the side of a building. He makes it look like a stroll up a vert face 😀

Appreciate the video! I noticed climbing with a tag line, which I get, (hauling and rappelling) but can you elaborate on the strategy for having the second TR with 2 mini traxions? Thank you
id assume it is so the leader can haul while the second climbs and they don't have to manage a belay and haul simultaneously
Back up knots? If not, less safety margin. If back up knots, I’d worry hauling a rope with knots getting stuck. Curious of their experiences with Pros/cons. Thx y’all
What Javier said... No backup knots. Too many pros and cons to explain in a comment. I hope to make a video one day.

Hey Tyler can you talk about following TRS style with the two micros vs being belayed normally? Saw it around @4:50, thanks!
Go listen to the nugget podcast episode with Mikey Scaffer, he talks about this technique of short fixing in detail
@@PatValade short fixing is used in simul-climbing. They're probably climbing TRS style just so they don't have to actively belay. I don't think they were hauling in this one, but it at least gives them a break from any movement

@@jc3940 Mikey Schaefer calls the technique “fix and follow”, so he likely got that confused with short fixing
Why is this possibly the only climbing video for the summer? You working or something? Or just traveling so much that you won't have time to edit?

where do you mount your gopro?
So if the leading person falls, is the only thing holding them the cam they placed? Until they get to an actual bolted anchor? It looks like it’s safer for the follower if they fall, if the leader falls are they just going to hope that they don’t gets messed up falling down a ways down to the bolt that the follower is attached too?
A well placed cam in good Granite like this almost never pops
