- NEAR BIG BEAR (LLN) - Multiple spin-outs and crashes have made for a holiday weekend nightmare for people going to and from the mountain community of Big Bear. Traffic is at a dead stop at times which took almost 3 hours to travel from Snow Valley to Big Bear.

I have always told my kids ,it doesn't matter how good you are at driving when the ones around you don't have any brains.
Yeah. So many teslas stuck or in the ditch last winter. Also had to drive this family who were stuck in their is350 in 2 feet of snow. Why would you even attempt this?
"Let me drive up to Bear in my 96 Honda Civic with no snow chains, use socks as gloves, and have my kid sled down a hill near a highway." - Safe Citizen
Ignorance is bliss 🤓
Sounds like someone from so cal. Lol
Don't forget to tailgate when icy.
Automobiles have never been more technically advanced, including traction control systems, yet drivers have never been worse; pure gold irony.
lmao
I install tire chains. At first glance it looks like a stupid motorist is trying to install tire chains while parked in the middle of the road.
@@rayray4192 yeah.. only thing missing is them installing on a blind corner!
Most humans trying to operate a motor vehicle are not qualified to push a wheelbarrow across a Wal Mart parking lot.
yep, we have smart phones, smart cameras, smart fridges, smart homes and smart cars.... only people aren't smart
Here is a fact...a lot of those who live in the mountain communities of the San Bernardino mountains have to work off the mountain. Those going up the mountain are most likely just trying to get home.
Ive lived up in Big Bear before and most people who cause these types of situations are LA/SD drivers with no chains and/or proper tires. Also the amount of times i've seen a RWD car with chains on the front is ridiculous.
And people taking an hour to put on chains. I drove up the other day and it was some of the tamest mounting driving I've seen, get people with 4wd spinning out. It's what makes Big Bear so challenging, lots of goofballs that shouldn't be here
What amazes me is after people experience one experience like this, you'd expect people to learn to have good tires or at least chains with them. Nope, people still will drive up and drive like its a sunny day
It always amazes me that people risk their own lives and their families in cars by not putting chains on when they should they're not only risking their own lives but the lives of people in other cars that they could crash into
chains are REQUIRED IN CALIFORNIA and NEVADA at myriad locations, Manuel. you cannot pass without either RWD/FWD x 4 chains or 4WD with proper snow tires.
Yeah but people drive right past those signs like they're not even there also you are required to have a minimum of 6 30 seconds of tread on your tires to be considered a snow tire even on your four-wheel drive
@@RobertMJohnson Thats just not true. You only need chains on the drive tires in R2 conditions in CA or 4x4/AWD with snow rated tires.
It's Southern California. Most of them either don't know what chains are, or have never even seen them, or have no idea how to put them on. And no idea to drive in the snow. That's why they're there.
@@SuperReviews4you look it up four-wheel drive or not you still need 6/32 of tread on your snow tires or you need to put on chains
Used to live up near Crestline. This looks all to familiar
This is a typical every other day in my good ol Minnesota
you guys help each other out or just talk crap like the other folks in these comments? Asking seriously because Californians are not very helpful.
It would be kind of fun to ask each of these drivers where they are going and why it was so important for them to be on the road in a blizzard. That would put a lot into perspective.
There’s a ski resort at the top of the mountain. Big Bear. Others want to play in snow. Figure it out.
I was thinking the same. Why, why are you out in this weather? Next thought, how stupid can you be if it’s not an absolutely emergency?
@@rayray4192 is it that much fun to risk lives to get there? Pick another day Boos! Or engage in the myriad of other winter activities that don’t involve a possibly deadly crash. Thanks Ray Ray!
@@elizabethrasmussen2903 there’s a ski resort at the top of the mountain. You can leave the valley floor in San Bernardino in shorts and a t- shirt. By the time you get to Big Bear it could be snowing. Millions of skiers drove in poor weather to get to the ski hill. Some are caught unaware of the road conditions ahead. It’s a thirty minute drive uphill from San Bernardino. Sometimes 2 hours.
@@hoosierbaddy3052 thank you for your comment. I can walk to my local ski resort. I live at 6,300 feet at Lake Tahoe. People pick you up and give you a lift within 5 minutes. From my place to the ski hill is actually level ground. People have lunch in San Bernardino and possibly an adult beverage and decide to drive up from a desert valley floor to the mountains ( San Bernardino National Forest) for a day trip. The weather on the valley floor can be remarkably different from the top of the hill.
Oh yeah happens all the time all over in Calexifornia. People aren't the brightest tools in the shed. Stop right in traffic on the hill to put the chains on they should have done 20 miles back at the turnout.
LOLOLOLOL. there are points marked by DOT where chains are required, dude.
Everybody hates California but everybody wants to be part of us .. and copy us 😂😂
@@RobertMJohnson I think that means come prepared BEFORE.
brains, not chains🙃🙃🙃
California is the most important state in America. All Americans should hope for the success of California.
The should have stayed home to begin with.
best comment...in Texas, we stay home, unless you`re an essential.
Yah like what are these people thinking? Some of those cars shouldn’t even be up there in those conditions.
These are normal crappy winter conditions. Not to say some people weren't prepared... But staying home is just not feasible in a lot of cases
the guy in the RWD BMW just chilling uphill while all other pickups and SUVs can't move or slide everywhere lol. The irony.
Wow what a hot mess, stay safe Nikk 🙏🏼
"Hot mess"?
I am here now, most people drives respectively 😊
If you live in an area that sees snow like this, winter tires should be a no brainer.
it’s a great investment more ppl should really look into
is that r2 conditions?
Can't believe road not even covered
Lol i was there yesterday but i took the 38 going from yucaipa, was less hectic but still alot of traffic. Def not worth going up there wasting time in traffic and risking your life with people that dont come with chains
Please make video longer! : )
What part of this is the "fun" part?
Nikk over at Big Bear Weather on You Tube has a ton of likes and views. Big Bear Weather on You Tube is a non stop update that you can’t live without when you live in Big Bear or plan to visit. Nikk has never let us down, he will be out in the middle of the night driving the roads of Big Bear to keep us informed.
Oh the humanity
Woke up early around 3:30 am and hit the road by 4am and drove thru this rainy slush fest easily without traffic. Was nice to beat the idiots who create such a nightmare with their stupidity.
Why come up at all? I’ve lived up here all my life and I rarely drive in snow storms. My fear isn’t my pickup or my abilities to drive in it but it’s these people that have no business in it. Ps thank you to the news channels for hyping the snow and making it miserable for locals up here. Lol
Way to only think about yourself. Businesses need tourist to make a living. No tourism = no money.
@@Waiting4Him111 There’s nothing wrong with coming up just have common sense to avoid traveling in a snow storm and risking yours and others lives. Safety should be a priority.
@@94Toyota people drive like morons everywhere. Big Bear just has hills of consequences 🤣
And?
Never driving in this again. Oh my anxiety
Thsnk the CHP for being out in this mess
They always are.
What part of California it took place ?.... Have people there in CA ever heard of so called "winter-tyres", e.g. "Michelin X-Ice North" or "GoodYear Ultra Grip" ???? ....
These conditions do not occur often enough to justify owning snow tires. For most people 99.5% of the time they are driving in 50+ dry weather.
This area is in Southern California.
Up in the mountains about 70 miles from Los Angeles
Search Lake Arrowhead. Search Big Bear. It’s a mountain community up hill ( north) from San Bernardino California. We are bracing for 48 more inches of snow in the next 48 hour. The Maga morons who criticize California have no clue how amazingly beautiful California is, and how incredibly important California is to all lower 48 states. The snowpack is very important to California. California feeds America. California success is important to all Americans. If you have never been to Lake Tahoe you are missing out. It’s wild and wonderful. California is a gem. I have a fire going in my wood stove and hot coffee fueling the snow removal work. Good exercise that makes you feel alive. Search Tahoma California on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. The Truckee river flows out of Lake Tahoe down to Reno. It’s a grand part of America. It’s not Kansas.
@@JBoy340a As I understood, such weather conditions are extremely rare in Southern CA, so people never even think of keeping an additional set of tyres for winter months .... CA is certainly not Montana, it's clear. - Case closed, thanks to everyone who responded.
Nice white rcsb chevy
Other drivers can learn from this. Driving slow keeping a safe distance. To many videos I've seen where speed and weather, causes tragedy.
Can I drive through this snow with a 2wd car and chains?
date in the description is wrong , it should be 2023
Eh if you have the right equipment that's not too bad just need to take it easy. Ton of low ass BMW's trying to go through, very likely no winter, would be surprised if they were even all weather (not the same as all season) tires, few with chains and that's what you get. Makes me shake my head every time when I see idiots like that. I have a Silverado 1500 and I run winter tires every winter, carry a set of chains under the rear seat and even my summer tires are 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake rated as well as M+S for that odd time I may get caught in a spring/fall storm where I might not yet have my dedicated winters on yet.
you, too, are pathetically uninformed. chains are REQUIRED in CA and NV during these storms 100% of the time. do you really think a region that gets 300-700" of snow annually hasn't figured this out?
@@RobertMJohnson By the looks of the people in the video? No I don't think they have >.>
@@TranceEmotion show me where it reads in my comment about people having chains. it reads "chains are REQUIRED". It doesn't read "every driver to Big Bear has chains."
@@RobertMJohnson And where in my first comment does it say "Californians haven't figured out how to winter drive or that the passes require chains" I commented on what's seen in the video on my first, and second comment. BMW's, Mercedes, Hondas ect no chains pulled off or in the Mercedes case in the middle of the road. At no point did I bring up the general public, just these idiots in the video.
Ok,but where is that bear? I was waiting for the bear 😅😁
Lets go drive in the mountains during a blizzard?
to get to skiing. your geography skills are terribly pathetic, eh?
3 day weekend of skiing.
It was 6 inches of snow. It wasn't a blizzard.
Most live up there but have to work at the base.
When are people going to learn stay off the roads until they get them cleaned up.
75% or more of these dangerous situations are just People making it so.
Does that mean 25% of people are smart and don`t drive in that crap at all.
I like the snow. But this is amateur hour. We only go when no one else is going. Definitely not on a weekend or holiday.
If they had chains, they don't know how to put them on.😂😂😂
4wd trucks don't need chains. But you are required to carry them with you.
Gee I'm sorry but if you read the law when it goes to R3 even four-wheel drives have to put chains on or some type of traction device
@@manuelsoares68 Then tell that to CHP. The stop everyone when chains are required and ask if you have AWD or 4WD and do NOT require you to put on chains of you say yes.
@@ourcreativebeehive probably because it's only it's only R1 R2 if they don't make you put change on your full wheel drive that are three they will require you to put chains on I've lived in the snow country for 35 years now driving the snow all the time I believe I've only gone through a checkpoint 20 times in that 35 years you must live in an area we're a lot of people try to get away without driving with chains on one of my favorite lines to use if I do get stopped at a chain check your area is cow s*** tires and four-wheel drive and smile law enforcement usually laughs and says have a good evening
4wd doesn’t make a difference on ice buddy
4WD would still need snow tires, or they will slide. So many overconfident 4WD are the flipped trucks in the roadside.
Why would anyone be out driving in this weather?
Must be annoying for the residents of big bear to have l these city folks with cars suc and some truck that are 2wd getting stuck and causing traffic and accidents. If you’re going to the mountains during snow season go prepare!
Florida.
That's 38
those people go up into snow country with street tires? Lucky more don't freeze to death
Only nightmare I saw was I’ll prepared people blocking the road while putting on chains too late in cars they don’t know how to operate in the snow.
I love it. Now that's just too funny. Just can't stay in for a moment gotta be out & in the middle of it just like nats do in the summer. Extroverts all. So thankful Lord for brains to enjoy indoor hobbies in the winter, ski when dry powder, no possibility of avalanches, not crowded, lodge open with fireplace stoked up hot, hot chocolate. Naw I still wouldn't leave, where I am is even better than that. I can ski in my own backyard. Om.
All the California haters here , WTF, ? It's a mountain road at 6,ooo feet. yes there are some stupid drivers out there but they are everywhere. Plus the snow has freezing rain mixed in. I'm sure there are lots of out of state plates involved
FR. A lot of the unaware folk out here are either tourists or new residents from out of state. There’s only a few who have lived here 10+ years & still haven’t gotten the memo
Who would want to live in this kind of a place? It's a joke...heating bill going to be $1k a month..
WHY R PEOPLE STILL TRAVELING? They know the severe weather?
Trying to get home. They live on the mountain but have to work at the base of it.
Let me take my Honda civic up to Big Bear with chains on the rear tires during a storm…..🥴
This is what happens when the California selfishness meets a snow storm. Try staying home next time. I did and I get to laugh at you sitting in hours of traffic from my nice warm couch.
I don't think this American behavior is exclusive to California.
@@easternyellowjacket276 But their judgment is. Those going up are most likely trying to go home after working at the base of the mountain.
But the man at the dealer said it would be ok in the snow
Yeah but you bought a 2wd version you Muppet

I think people in America get dumber and dumber who in the hell would be out on those roads right now. They had to give every one of them a $500 ticket for endangering lives.
I live in Tahoe and drive in it every day on Mt Rose Hwy, it's no problem if you have AWD or 4x4. It's the idiots that come up and are not prepared or don't know what they're doing.
Those going up are most likely trying to go home. The mountain can employee most of those who live on it.
