Her accent is very good if we take into account that she did not learn French at school, but only by ear through the songs her mother and grandmother listened to.
She pronounces the "r" very well, which is often a big difficulty for the Russians who roll them, whereas in French it's a hard "r" like in German.
She has a problem with the sound "u" (ü transcribed in German) which does not exist in Russian so she pronounces it "ou" ("u" transcribed in German) and she naturally tends to pronounce "e" endings that are not pronounced in French. And sometimes the "e" like the Slavic "e" ("yé").
But Diana is perfectly understandable, this accent adds charm to her interpretation. Moreover since that time she has made progress as we can hear in the latest versions of "Dernière Danse".
Diana is a very good interpreter of Edith Piaf, she also has "Padam, padam" and "Sous le ciel de Paris" in her repertoire. This is one of my favourite songs of all time and this little 10-11 year old has done an amazing job with it. She had such a powerful voice and such a big bottom range and such a commanding appearance on stage at such a tender age, that I can only imagine she’s out of this world a few years later. I can’t wait to see more of her.
