I think it’s so insane the way New York real estate is compared to where I’m from. Like the way apartments get snatched in like seconds is insane!

Love the second apartment and the last one in brooklyn with the one bedroom (it's HUGE). I don't understand how people sign leases without personally visiting the place. I've had desired apts that got snatched before I could make a viewing appt, insane!! All the best in your new place 💕

"Gut" renovated means that they ripped put everything (probably down to the studs) and replaced everything including drywall. Regular renovation would entail simply painting, adding new fixtures or cabinets, or replacing carpet flooring etc.
Great video! A gut renovation is a renovation of the unit even the “guts”. Think of “guts” are internal things pipes, insulation, walls, roof,etc. as opposed to just the things your can see (appliances, counters, cabinets etc)

I lived in the LIC building you showed! I was in a studio there from 2017 - 2019. It was a great building and so convenient, but your instincts were right - the management was not good and pretty rude. Congrats on your new place!

You've mentioned being too optimistic at the begining, looking back at your experience and where you ended up, do you really regret not applying to those first appartments or was it just because it took way longer than expected?
tbh looking back, a lot of those regrets were driven by the fact that it was taking so long to find a place - I think in a market like this one, it's really hard to be picky and selective about options mainly because there weren't that many at all 😅

this is such a helpful video! i love some of the williamsburg ones especially. what websites did you use to find them? for some reason all the 2 bedroom ones we’ve found are priced way higher but the ones you listed were more reasonable

No you don't, it's not all nice over here like the internet makes it seem. If anything crime rates are sky rocketing over here and the only nice place to be at is Times Square even though it's always packed there too. Everything is also way overpriced here as well. I hate living here.
Also way too many hate crimes here. So many. Also if you don't live in a place with a garage trying to find parking can either be hell or expensive if ur renting a spot out.

and ofc! I actually didn't use a broker - I know a lot of people (including myself) who rely just on streeteasy to find apartments. from my experience, brokers tend to peruse streeteasy for listings too so it's a pretty reliable platform and good place to start. plus, if you select the no-fee option on streeteasy when you're looking, then you won't be stuck having to pay an extra month's rent to the broker :) (on the other hand, it does also help to have someone filter out places for you and a broker might be the way to go in a bad market)

its also safe to say i ADORE all of the units shown in the building you chose.

it's honestly a terrible market 😢 but there's still some good options out there if you keep looking, just hang in there!!

it doesn't have too many amenities, but it does have a rooftop, laundry in unit, and an intercom system!! i've seen some places in williamsburg with gym, elevator, etc (e.g. apt 1 in the video) so there are definitely options :)
I love places with walk-in bathrooms (as opposed to the non walk-in bathrooms, where you just have to pee out the window).😂
Moving there in June 2022 and this helped me so so much! Any/all of the Bushwick/Williamsburg listings would be perfect imo

Nah if you’re from NYC you know 10 mins off the subway is too far. The most anyone would do is 6-8 and even that’s pushing it.

I think it's definitely possible in deeper brooklyn!! (bushwick/bed stuy area) - also I've heard of people getting great deals by living with a lot of roommates or flexing out an apartment :)
