- The sport version of this was so popular that I had to do a league one as well! In this one I'm going to just stick to what's currently in production to start with, and then at the end I'll take requests!
This list includes every ball released AND/OR still in production since the last list I did. I've already covered a couple of these balls, but they're still in production, and a few of these have already been discontinued, but I haven't covered them before, so we're going to talk about them anyway!

Love this breakdown! Thanks for putting it together. I wish I had the same experience with both the Reality and the P2 that most others seem to have. But for me, the Reality has been a solid D tier ball. Maybe I just got a dud because it’s absolutely lifeless and unresponsive. Nowhere near what I expected from a strong asym ball. And I generally match up better with asym balls than I do symmetrical. My P2 is all over the place and extremely finicky. It will either overhook or barely hook and it only takes the tiniest of adjustments to swing from one to the other. And when I do manage to hit the pocket, it’s a garbage hit that leaves me with horrible splits. I just can’t seem to get it figured out. My gem, exotic gem, eternity, absolute, reality check, UC3, & IQ ruby all work great for me in my house-shot league. Zen is another one I have struggled with. It’s worked better than my P2, but that isn’t really saying much.
For my league shot, DNA has been great. I use it almost every week. :)
The VE Blackout is the cheat code for me. Box finish was no good at all and I put 1500 finish with no polish. The ball does not overread friction and provides a smooth but very sharp shape and just will not burn up at all even with my slower ball speed. It's definitely not just a one trick pony either and allows me to play two arrows of area as the lanes transition which is something I don't see from other balls I have - allows me to use it for all 3 games in a league set. Thanks for this League Essentials! I have currently the VE Blackout (1500), Phaze 4 (1500), Hy-Road (2000), Hyped Solid (box), Hustle USA (2000), and (gasp) Ebonite Fireball (box). My two favorites are the VE Blackout and Hyped Solid.
Did you take it down per Luke's usual 1000 grit + Step ? Or did you end up at 1500 some other way?
@@frankschmidt8001 I just went 1000 and then 1500. No polish. It is rare that I use any compounds other than a mix of Simple Green, water, and alcohol. Stuff lane shines quickly so touch ups are needed every few weeks. Factory finishes are just so random. I have a Fireball that was really unpredictable with its glossy factory finish. I hit it with 3000 and 4000 which smoothed the reaction (surprisingly). The Fireball reads really early anyway so I want it fairly shiny. The VEBO is so crazy long on the lane it needs some surface to get it to read earlier. Chris Barnes loves his at 1000.
Thanks for the tips! My pro shop guy always recommends trying out of box first. Other guys change before first shot. Not sure what is the best way to go.
I like pitch black on house way more than purple hammer. Purple hammer was too strong to hit friction and too weak in oil. Pitch black could bank of the dry and never overhook.
Hey Luke...great video....much appreciated. Wish that there was time for you to include the Infinite Physix as was original plan but that's ok. Maybe if you could comment where it would've gone on the list? I can always review your vids regarding the details of your general thoughts on that ball... thanks!
Yeah I didn't quite allow myself enough time to get there! I would have put it in high A, low S tier. Really great ball, really versatile.

The OG Zen is a good ball. Going to get a new one this Xmas for the shelf. Right hand inside third arrow on house. Left hand not so good. I’ve been working on the me problem of relaxing my hand and all the balls hook more now.
Yeah I think I'd like one righty, it's just too much lefty and a little too forward.
Yeah, I love the Eternity had to resurface my ball and used new smoth edge from storm and it's way way better than the garbage reacta gloss.
Love ur content. Huge fan. What 3 balls would u recommend for a modified house shot. Trying to get my league bag ready. I have Gem, DNA, Exotic Gem, Infinite Physix, Summit, Phase II, IQ Tour Solid, Night Road, IQ Tour Ruby, n Hyped Pearl. Would appreciate ur expert input. 👍
It's all going to be somewhat subjective depending on how you throw the ball and what you bowl on, but I'd personally go DNA, Summit, Ruby out of that list you mentioned.

Very high B or low A, not quite strong enough for the fresh, but really versatile and usable with enough friction.
So would the journey be a step down from the VEBO? Or would they overlap too much.
Really hard to say. Overlap on traction, but shape and how they act on the lane is a lot different. Could definitely put them both in the same bag, but I really have no idea which one is a step down or step up from the other lol.
Where would you rank sun storm on sport and house and I wish storm would bring another crux series ball with a nex solid cover stock
I'm not really sure, we actually have one, I just haven't drilled it so I can't really say. Yeah another Crux ball would be great, but the Eternity line kind of acts like Crux balls. Eternity feels just like an original Crux, and the Pi kind of feels like an Alpha.

I'm a rev dominant two hander with a Phaze II and spare ball only. I'm looking at getting an asym. pearl, and I've thrown and really like the exotic gem. I'm stuck between getting the Eternity or VEBO. What do you think? That VEBO is purdy, but I'd rather get the one that matches up with me best. 190-200 ave.
It's really hard for me to say, I'd go to your local pro shop and have them watch you bowl a little, then they'd have a better idea what to put you in based on how you bowl and the local conditions.
@@LukeRosdahl I'll do that bc I'm not sure if an asym pearl is even the way to go. I could get a Reality or a Urethane ball. I'll get them all eventually, but I'm curious what type of ball to get next.

Wait, what did I miss on the good or bad Revenant? Can you please elaborate?
It just seemed to be really hit or miss for people with whether it hooked or not, even after a surface reset. Some people's just refused to do anything no matter what they did, like my wife's, and some were amazing after a surface reset, like mine. Usually with the reacta gloss balls, just takes a light resurface and they're good to go, this one was super hot and cold for some reason no matter what.
Would a polished USA be similar to the RIP or M&M?
Somewhat similar to the MM, but it and the MM aren't that close at all to the RIP

Did I miss why the Hyped Pearl wasn't on the house shot list?
I thought it had been discontinued but looks like I was wrong! It'd be a mid to upper B tier ball, just not strong enough for a ton of regular use but good if it's in play
The Hyped Solid feels a lot like my Venom Shock ... Which is high praise... Venom Shock was my security blanket for a long time.... Edit: I typed this before he read the comment basically saying the same thing haha... True Story though
I know it's an old ball and retired, but where would you have had the Sure Lock?
Sure Lock was basically a Reality, so it would have been in the same place.
My TNT is one of the only balls I have that DOESN’T give up and puke on house shots for me. Am I missing something here?
Not really, you might be one that matches up to it. There will be exceptions for all of these, I liked some balls that were universally hated, and hate some balls that most people like. Plus I did note that the TNT was a god ball for 2 handers, so for people that slow hook it, it does look REALLY good.
I hated the RSTX-3 so much that my pro shop guy took it back and gave me a credit which I will be using on a Virtual Energy Blackout. Thoughts?
Should like the Blackout a lot more, the X3 was really hit and miss for people.
@@LukeRosdahl it was a big miss for me and my pro shop guy took it back and gave me a credit. That credit I'm considering using on the Blackout or Tour Dynam-x. I have a low rev rate with high axis. Wondering if the Blackout would be better for me.
@@neilkaplan1433 Probably, the TDX is pretty weak and smooth already. Have seen the Blackout look great for lower rev rates
@@LukeRosdahl would it matter if I have a high axis point and low rev's. My speed is 13.5 mph so pretty low.

Well this isn't really from my perspective, this is what I think as a general rule for most people based on the ball reaction, most bowlers, and most league conditions. So this wasn't my personal ranking, this was more of an objective list. We could always do our personal rankings, but I don't necessarily like to do that because then people get backwards ideas. Just because I don't like a ball doesn't mean it isn't good. The Eternity for example is about the worst ball I've ever thrown but that doesn't mean it's bad, and I don't want people getting the wrong idea or impression

They're two completely different balls, that's like asking if a driver is better than a 6 iron, quality has nothing to do with it.
What do you intend to use after you don’t have anymore Step 2 ?
I would think eventually I'd be able to get the new Storm compounds, but if I run out of Step 2 and they're still not available to staffers, probably just get some Brunswick Crown Compound or something. I know that doesn't really make any sense, if I'd have to buy that, I might as well just by the Storm compounds, but putting out a product to the general public months ahead of making them available to company representatives kind of pisses me off to be honest.
At the same time, I have 3/4 of a 32oz bottle of Step 2 left and I use it veeeery slowly, the bottle I have is already almost a year old, so I'm not too worried.

@@chuckbryan7590 Nah, generally I don't really mess with their stuff, all their surfacing stuff is really good though. I've heard most people say they don't like the polish though
Would an arsenal of Reality, Zen, Blackout, and Ruby make sense or are the Zen and Blackout too similar to be in one bag?
Also, I have the reality and absolutely love it as a speed dominant 1 handed player. Thinking of getting my hands on a phaze 2 as well.
Zen and Blackout do feel pretty similar in terms of hook or overall traction, but they shape really differently. It depends on what's most important to you in that situation.

Depends, have you reset the cover yet? They're all garbage out of the box, but with that one specifically, some just never woke up no matter what people did to them.
Should I resurface My IQ Ruby?
All depends on the reaction, some people have said it looks just fine with the gloss, and if it's reacting well, that's all that matters.
What about Extreme Envy?
I'm a Storm staffer, so I haven't thrown it, but from what I've seen it's basically an Eternity Pi

Yeah mine was blah and kind of dead until I got softer with it and let the ball roll. It doesn't like being grabbed, and it loves getting down into the lane sooner.

Possibly, but I'm not really ranking these from my perspective, these are general rankings based on how I think they'd fit for virtually anyone.
Problems with the situation if you throw a PB on house shot... truth. My problem is all the old guys throwing 30+ year old urethane balls in my league... yeah, I'm one of the only young guys.
The new web developer isn't the one who's costing you your time. Our ecommerce and website host hasn't been the easiest to work with over the years and we're looking into new solutions that integrate with our preexisting inventory systems, but that's been the real challenge. They're terrible. Really. Sorry your life has been made so miserable because of the website, but I promise you the web team here has had it much worse. Thanks for being a fan of the 'gram tho!
I'm not talking about software freakouts. I work daily with several years old softwares that barely function sometimes and randomly go haywire for no reason and that I fight constantly, so you don't have to explain that to me, I get all of that and I definitely empathize there 100%.
My specific issue is the manually entered and placed information. Virtually every web page for this year's releases has been launched with one to many pieces of inaccurate and/or incomplete information. For example, the day the Clone, TDX, ZGL, and XP hit the website, so much was collectively wrong and inaccurate that I spent hours fielding questions just that day, and the mistakes weren't corrected for 2 solid weeks.
I already have a full time job, and the web team there is made up of paid employees. I give countless hours of free time in my free time so you'll have to forgive me being so wound up about it, but this is far from an isolated or short term occurrence, and you know how much of a cry baby I am . .
@@LukeRosdahl yes, the information is manually entered and/or copied over from previously similar balls, but if an unscheduled update occurs and we don’t know about it balls can pull random attributes from other random pages and we won’t know about it until someone brings it to our attention. I’d rely more heavily on the tech data that gets sent out than the website any day just because you never know what might’ve changed.
That's fair, and I do. I read my emails and check the tech data and design intent pdfs that get linked on the ball pages. It's just that the general public doesn't know that. They see something on the website, and I get questions. If it's just a shitty situation for everyone, cool, I'll zip it. It's just always something and nothing ever seems to change or get resolved, and since we aren't allowed to put any information out there until weeks after announcements, I just have to sit on my hands and wait for the fallout.
@@cmclean300 I've been there with managing complex webapp systems (did it professionally for 6+ years) and totally know and understand that system issues happen... but when I can open up the source for a webpage and see core equipment data (technical specification infographics, advertising script, core numbers, etc) hardcoded into each individual webpage this argument doesn't hold water.
The bowling world is better when there's competition, because competition breeds innovation. Looking like you don't care and making half-baked (at best) excuses for errors drives people away. Do better.
