She proved herself herein to be a triple threat performing the "Soulful Strut" dance routine. Sorry small but important. Correction, Ethel Waters had a big break in the 1930s which was after world war one she was a big star on Broadway and in black films in the 1930s and 40s and 50s. Just didn’t want to age her so much. Diana Ross did a great tribute to her and her 1976 Broadway show and subsequent TV special “an evening with Diana Ross”
She performed a segment where she pays tribute to Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters, and Josephine Baker. On the TV special she wore prosthetics and was an amazing performer. Becoming these great iconic divas that preceded her stardom.

Are you crazy, they wasn’t jealous of Diana. They knew that Diana wasn’t the best singer. Barry thought her voice was more commercial and could cross over, that doesn’t mean she was a better singer. Diana was actually intimidated by Flo because she knew in her heart Flo was more talented and prettier. There anger was more so towards Barry and MoTown. Please read Mary Wilson’s book to get a better understanding. Diana knew she wasn’t as good of a singer so she tried to turn Barry against Flo.

When Berry first auditioned them he saw Diana's star power and that her voice was different and likely to catch on with the public. Diana had ambition and worked so hard to hone her craft. Berry said she was his inspiration she is the one who drove his dreams for Motown. Smokey said it was Diana who opened the doors to mass public appeal. Martha Reeves said that Diana was the hardest working person in showbusiness. Diana does not get the credit she deserves. I have seen Diana in concert 7 times even sang with her briefly at the Royal Albert Hall in London. John Sivorn ❤️ ❤

Brian Holland said it was actually Baby Love that took Motown to the next level. It was a massive global hit. He said he was in love with Diana who was 19 or 20 he was 23 or 24 and that he wrote Baby Love for her because she was just a baby. The doors the Supremes opened were now available to the other acts at the company. Diana was the face of Motown and Black music around the world at that time in the mid 60s.

Diana had and has IT. Versatile, Agile, Beautiful, Graceful, & Talented.
She proved that she's a STAR
By her own personality! Charisma, and willingness to work hard. She still does to this day. It was MR Gordy who decided to have all the group Names changed to showcase the lead. ie Miracles became Smokey Robinson & the Miracles etc. Diana proves right here that she Can. It was not her fault what happened to sweet Florence, even the bitter Mary attest to that. She was violated . That changed her. Diana, Mary & Motown did what they could. I just wish that facts were written instead of hate, with a lack of knowledge. Thanks for this awesome historical Video. Just saying ☮️. Oh yeah she has beautiful thick long hair. I agree v12j12g ----- Diana & Berry found a common dream of stardom which required hardwork & dedication to their craft. That wasn't in Flo or Mary's goal. .they didn't have the determination, drive, dedication Diana had. In the process of building that dream. Berry & Diana became intimate resulting in a personal and business relationship. Don't be fooled, Mary and Flo were sleeping around...don't hate Diana just because she chose the right person to sleep with. Any of them would loved to have been in Diana's shoes.
Any woman who happened to be involved with the boss or the man in charge, would...and ...should expect special benefits. But as it was with Berry & Diana, the special benefits were not based on "selling her body"...they were in love and were working on a common goal. And it worked !! The Supremes with Diana Ross helped boost Motown & Berry Gordy into the hall of legendary music...and Diana into a legendary star.
The only criticism I have for Berry, is he should have let Flo and Mary (each) record a song on each album to showcase their individual talent.

@Broccoli Beefed Yours would be dead too if you were treated like Mary and Flo were treated. Yea Diana made it to the top but she sacrificed so much to get there including Flo and Mary along the way. It's easy to be a top contender when you have a engine behind you, and like it or not that engine was motown and Gordy who was Diane's boo thang. The fans loved Flo, even the owner of the Coppa refused them because they tried to get rid of Flo and bam she was back on stage and therefore Gordy and Ross knew Flo was a threat and had to go. I look up to Flo for not sitting back and biting her tongue. She started this group and should have had just as much voice as Diana.

You may not believe in Karma but there's a reason why Diana Ross can barely give away an album or song since the mid 80's, while her peers went on to have great strenches of commercial runs throughout the 90's and even some just on specific genre charts in the early 2000's.
