I’ve spent most of my adult life at sea and I think that Tally Ho is one of the most meticulously built vessels I’ve ever seen. Part of me think it should be in a museum to show future generations how to build the perfect boat but In my heart I know she has to go to sea.

      Dear @alanhenderson9092
👍👌👏 Almost exactly what I almost always think and also already commented. Tally Ho should be in a museum to show people how it can be done if excellent craftsmen do it. I'm shocked how much wear and damage for instance Arabella already took and I simply don't want it to happen to Tally Ho. On the other hand: Of course I want Leo to be happy. And without sailing Tally Ho, he will not be happy. At least I guess so.
Best regards, luck and health in particular.

The modifications have created a few problems, notably the tight tolerances at the heel of the bowsprit created by adding a second Sampson Post. Since the original capstan is going to be reinstalled the run of anchor cable and lines might make an interesting five minutes.

Here in Australia and New Zealand, it was customary to use Oregon Pine (Douglas Fir) beams around 15” by 5” as the mounting for sheep-shearing shed shaft-drives. Every old shearing shed in Australia and New Zealand has these beams in them - thousands of them. They would mostly be over 100 years old now. Beautifully seasoned and of the highest quality.
Shaft-drive systems are no longer made for sheep-shearing, so the beams are becoming obsolete as the systems wear out. Hundreds of shearing sheds are abandoned now, complete with shaft-drives and beams.

If you're interested in some wood-related science, I recently was studying the subject. Ring size is a useful medium for historians, generally enlarging with temperature. Warmer years mean faster growth. The age of sail is entirely within a period called the "Little Ice Age." Temperatures were around 4℃ lower than today. If global temperatures to continue rising, and we continue current deforestation rates, we can expect such nice, tight-grained woods to become quite scarce and valued indeed.

Well Done Maties!!!!!! You can't beat Douglas Fir.
Our house is 75 yrs old. All of the framing is Doug Fir. It was a "kit" house and assembled by an established contractor who built it for his own family. An interesting thing I've found is ever piece of wood I've had chance to look at is stamped with a "part no. and name". The most incredible fact: The ceiling joist (2x8's) are one piece. That makes them 28' long. Yep, 28' long. The house frame is 28 X 56.

Thank goodness for the intro! Our whole family (including 5yr old boy who 'helps' us build our own boats) all call out "Hi Leo!" in reply, every single episode. You're the only CZcamsr little dude knows by name, and that intro is why! 😂

I didn’t realise how important that vessel is, until I seen a clip on the Georgia 36’s , built locally to where you are. The similarities in design etc c are really cool to see. Stunning vessel you have, and the woodworking involved is inspiring. Love the channel, keep up the fantastic effort.

LOVE your films, craftsmanship and all that you've done and shared. THANKS In respect to the bowsprit, I'm a real fan of raising it ! I live in Holland and almost all of the clippers and fishing boats which sail and have bowsprits, raise them. The "botter", a traditional sailing fishing boat is one of the few exceptions. Success with the carefull process of both storing and projecting the bowsprit, indeed, it's a challenge !

Brilliant of you to recycle the piece of wood Leo .... thank you, I admire people with such empathy for wood.
.. ..I loved the analogy .. the tree was holding up a building while Tally Ho was off galavanting around the world, now it's the tree's turn to travel. .
In hindsight, would you have done anything differently so as to avoid the tight squeeze installing the beam?

@Samps-onBoat_Co Bloody brilliant actually. What you have achieved is truly unexpected and extraordinary in all repects, I imagine you feel this too. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling this, your channel has become an important and intrinsic part of my life. I look forward to every episode knowing that it's going to be fun, inventive, interesting and informative.
You ARE a sailor and a boat builder but I think your future may lie in video/ film presentation. Up to you of course, but I think, unlikely as it sounds, your best may be yet to come and I for one, look forward to it. Your inate quality of leadership will take care of that my friend, if I may presume the term.
Love from an old man in Portugal, also a boat owner, occasional sailor, bike rider, former hang glider designer/manufacturer and studied reprobate.

I thing the sault and tar is the best one so far, but most have done well so far. As for the quality of construction this thake the cake as a musem quality project which hasd got out of hand. The cost must be in the millions. I do wish you well, after all I have alote of time ivested.
