  • If you are moving to cape town you need to hear me out. Relocating to cape town is a great idea, and your first step was to look at property prices and compare what the current property prices are here compared to where you are coming from, for sale in Cape Town vary in price depending on how close you move towards the mountain. Now, homes closer to the mountain cannot always be compared to homes elsewhere because the lifestyle you choose to live is different, however it's interesting to see what you get for similar prices in each suburb.

If you're after value for money, go a little further from the mountain... a little further... a little further still....

One of the best kept secrets are areas around Edgemead, Welgelegen, Panorama. You are close to the N1 and can get to central Cape Town in 10-15 mins (longer in rush hour) ... You can get large 3/4 bed properties with 500-1000sqm plots for around R3 to R4 million. I sold my place in Tamboerskloof..it was very built up and extremely expensive. Depends on what your lifestyle is but if you are willing to take an Uber..you get so much more for your money and not invaded by tourists every Summer living just out of Cape Town and actually I have a better full view of Table Mountain here..living on it you dont really see it !!. Also be careful you lose the sunshine in Tamboerskloof in the Summer at 5pm due to shadowing of Lions Head !.. also you catch more rain too !.. I am in Edgemead now and can walk to an excellent wine farm in 10 mins called De Grendel. 5 star dining, superb view...I would never move back to town !

I live in UK currently and contemplating moving to Cape Town. Would love to live in a place where we have a total piece of mind. One thing that jumps out all the time when i search for houses is the security issues. I hope we will find a safer place to retire from years of working. Thank you for sharing.

Sounds like there is plenty of security with some of the properties.. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that it is needed...I would assume that there is substantial mental stress living in an environment where one needs to be mentally on guard 24/7.
