  • I've just completed building a Spring Pole Lathe, following Roy Underhill's Plans published in Popular Woodworking. Can't wait to do some turning!

I went on a bowl-turning course. The lathes had an A-shaped treadle platform, to stop the Left-Right wobble. There is enough to worry about :-).

That's really neat. It's awesome you got the design from Roy Underhill, I used to watch The Wood wright's Shop with my Daddy when I was a kid. Thanks for posting t his vid!

You should've made a spindle block to wrap your drive rope around

Hi Noam, this construction is almost to easy to be true... Wow! Nice solution and it screams to rebuild it for my travelling workshop...
    Thanks for the inspiration.

If you're not bothered by modern materials I've used one where the foot pedal pulls against a simple bungie cord tensioned overhead

He told us where they came from. They're not his, they're Roy Underhill's plans.

@@shawnheinrich3820 Try using Google yourself, rather than expecting others to spoon feed you information? I did, and the article and cut list are open in another tab on my computer right now. If you're up to building it, you're up to finding the plans with the information you have.

Hi Shawn! The plans aren't mine to post. I got them from the August 16 issue of Popular Woodworking. I paid for a digital back issue. You may be able to find a free version out there somewhere, but it's not that expensive just to buy the digital issue. I think he's also got the plans for this in "The Woodwright's Shop: A Practical Guide to Traditional Woodcraft". You can check your library for that one, and if they don't have it there's always inter-library loans. Good hunting!
