    Hi Gemily,
    I really hate it, when they tell me, "you must come in again, your prescription has expired".
    (I truly want the OD to expire. Now, I am forced to measure myself. He is no help at all.)
    That means you must pay $300 for an exam, and $300 for minus lens glasses.
    Jake's, "distance to blur", is quite accurate. It is highly recommended by me.
    The Formula:
    Focus = - 1 / Distance
    Example
    My "start of blur, on text is 0.5 meters (20 inches)
    Focus = - 1 / 0.5 meters
    Focus = -2 diopters.
    This is incredibly easy.
    That will be about 20/100 on your Snellen.
    (About 1.5 inch letters).

    Hi Gemily,
    A suggestion for improvement glasses;
    Zennioptical, for $25, two sets.
    I use them for refraction estimates.
    When I watch this video, I think about how great you and Jake are in your efforts. I like the fact that you have Snellen Charts up, and check them regularly.
    For myself, I accept the requirement that by this check I read, 20/40, both eyes open at 20 feet.
    If I confirm doing this, I quit wearing a minus lens.
    (The full DMV requirement is;
    One eye, 20/60,
    Other eye, 20/40,
    Both eyes open, 20/40.
    This was my "starting point".
    You can truly work yourself back to 20/20 by using a reduced lens, or no lens at all.
    I also do my my own refraction measurements.
    OD, are a total "lost cause".

      This is when on nice sunny days, when you don't have ciliary spasm and you are seeing well, and your normalised glasses aren't giving you any challenge like they do on cloudy days or when your eyes are tired, you wear your NEXT pair of normalised, the ones you will move to later, so that you still get a little blur challenge to work with.

    Thanks for the explanation! Quick question, my left eye is -2.5 and my right -2.5. However, what do you do if there is some difference in left and right eye when reading or looking at the screen with no glasses? I mean if you bring closer to you, then my right eye could see better easily. But if we need some blur challenges then I’m afraid my weaker eye will just give up because too much blur and my stronger eye will do all the work. What should we do? I hope this question makes sense.

    When I measure my eyes, I get 18 cms, this is when it starts to become slightly blurred. Should I try to read 18 cms or so away from my computer or it's too close, even without glasses? Instead should I get differentials? So 18 cms translate into 5.5 diopters. So what do you advise? That I read at 18 cms witbout glasses or that I get some glasses at 3.0 diopters instead? Thanks

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez Před 3 lety

      Get differentials. The thing is that it is more than just your edge of blur that you are dealing with here. You are also dealing with convergence when you are too close to what you are trying to view. You don't want to strain your eyes that way either.

    Hi Gemily,
    Nice Snellen on the wall.
    I wish I would have been offered a scientific choice. (The second opinion.)
    1) NEVER start wearing a minus lens
    2) Take responsibility, to always objectively pass the required DMV test at home.
    3) DMV, requirement is 20/70, one eye, 20/40, other eye, 20/40, both eyes open on Bright Snellen.
    4) This conflicts with "official Optometry", but we mus learn to do this together.
    5) Teach me to measureme my own refractive state, and I will take full legal responsibility, for results.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez Před 3 lety

      I don't know what you should do - that depends on so many things that are subjective. Here is what you need to ask yourself: in your old glasses, are things blurry or clear? In your new glasses are things clear or are they ultra HD?
      Print out a Snellen Chart and check what line you can read with each pair of glasses. If you can read the 20/20 line with your old glasses, then they are good to go back to. If you can see 20/30 or 20/40 in them, they may still be okay to go back to, as long as wearing the stronger glasses these last 1.5 months has made your brain used to seeing clearly. If you can't see 20/40 in them, you need the stronger glasses.
      Also, definitely get differential glasses for close up - being overcorrected for close up causes myopia progression. But step 1: print a Snellen chart to help you work out what glasses are more correct for you. Step 2: order differential glasses that are appropriately reduced in strength.
      You can try using the EndMyopia online calculator to measure your vision, but at that level of myopia, it might be tricky. Try wearing your old glasses and seeing how far away you get before it gets blurry, then add 6.75 or 6.5 (depending on the lens in front of your eye) to the result to work out your ideal full correction. If your old glasses are still pretty close, this could be quite a big distance from your screen.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez Před 3 lety

      If you can use your phone without differentials, that's okay. But at -4, you'd need them if you are on a computer or reading a book. Try not to use your phone too much - see if you can move more of your phone activities over to a computer or tablet. The distance at which we use our phone kills gains. • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez Před 2 lety +1

      For work less than 30cm, whether or not you need differential glasses depends on how strong your myopia is. With one eye at -2.75, you may not feel you need them, and that's fine. Do try to make sure your -4 eye is participating too though. You may want to try differentials with a little correction for your -4 eye, but no correction for your -2.75 and see how that feels. But it all depends on how YOU see. I don't know. At 60cm distance, differential glasses would be the correction to use, I would think. Jake's EndMyopia website, as well as other videos, explain what a differential correction is if you don't already know that.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez Před 3 lety

      If you can't get outside everyday, that's okay. Get outside when you can, or look out a window. You can active focus on the snellen, but don't active focus on it for too long at a time. Jake reported that one person active focussed on their Snellen for 3 hours straight, and then had the image of their Snellen visible in their vision for a few days after that! So maybe AF on a Snellen for 15 minutes, then go and do some other things. Another thing you can do indoor is print pushing, like while reading or on a computer. That also helps.

      You can used close up and normalised on the same day. You only use the differentials for close up, and you only use the normalised for non-close up. They say to start with the differential. That doesn't mean only the differential and nothing else. It means you have your full glasses. Then you start wearing your differentials whenever you do close up work, and wear your normalised glasses whenever you are not doing close up work. Then, after you have been doing this for 6 weeks, swap your full glasses for normalised glasses. Then you will be swapping between your differentials and your normalised. After 6 weeks of that, you can see whether your eyes are ready for a lower differential correction. And so on.
