MADjam 2022 Champions Jack & Jill Robert Royston & Sarah Vann Drake

Recorded at the 2022 Mid Atlantic Dance Jam. MADjam is the largest West Coast Swing party in the world. It features contests for amateurs and professionals, dozens of workshops and amazing social dancing that brings together 100s of dancers from around the world on the first weekend in March. It is hosted in the Washington DC Area by Dave Moldover's Dance Jam Productions.

Can someone please explain to me how he’s supporting her weight when he just has his hand under her neck??? I mean what’s supporting the rest of her body and how is it that she doesn’t end up on the ground…???

Both Robert and Sarah are champion dancers in west coast swing. Note where Sarah’s supporting leg was at the point Robert had her laid back, and where Sarah’s hand was connected to Robert’s arm. All three points, and Sarah’s core strength we’re providing all the support required. That’s in combination with exquisite communication in this dance style and trust both partners have in one another. Two of the best!

Ah!!! You’re saying that although it appears like he’s just supporting her with one hand behind the head there’s more going on that could be missed! It all happens fast so I didn’t see it.

he can support her weight because most of her weight is on her leg muscles, been doing that and variations for 40 years and with women who weigh as much as myself, 185 lbs. if she has back problems he has to support the back
