MR. Organic Chemistry Tutor, thank you for another solid video/lecture on determining the solution, no solution and many solutions of a linear system.
The video thumbnail has a slight error, the No Solution and the Many Solution headers should be swapped, if I understand correctly
Yup
I FOUND THIS PICTURE ONLINE AND WAS USING IT AND DIDN'T REALIZE WHY I WAS WRONG THEJDNDNNENENENE
Okay you actually saved my life I have a test tomorrow and would have failed if I didn't know that :))
He did that so people who think they got the idea from the Thumbnail would use it and get it wrong so now they go back and watch the whole video this man is a genius
used the thumbnail as a study guide for exams, now im wrong

I've been struggling with this and now I finally understand. Thankyou!
You are my savior in my varsity courses. Thank you so much!!
The best way is to write the equations in slope intercept form and then look if they are same( dependent) or having same slope and different intercept(inconsistent) or neither their slope nor their intercept is same(independent)
Thanks for this video, easy to learn

3x+2y= 5....(1)
6x+4y= 8......(2)
So in order to equate either x or y
Multiply (1) by 2
6x+4y= 10 ....(3)
Now subtract this newly formed equation (3) with (2)
6x+4y= 8
(-)6x -(4y)= -(10)
_________________
0 + 0. = -2
Here is how you got -2
First you equate the equation and then you add or subtract according to situation in order to cancel either one of variable (x, or y)
If both the equation have same sign you subtract
And if both have different sign you add
Shortcut
Same sign - Subtract
Different sign- Add
(Ask if you have any doubt)
Big help! Thanks ❤️
This channel has been so helpful.
nice explanation sir, just to draw your attention, that in the thumbnail, you swapped conditions for no solution with that of many solution
Does it mean any time we solve and get 0 on the LHS and a negative on the RHS, we label it as no solution?
thank you for sir for the short but precise video tutorial
Thanks for these solutions. I've been looking everywhere
For the second and third equation where are you pulling out the -2? Why are we multiplying it by -2 Why is it any different than the first equation. This is what I don't understand.
Thank you so much, you're the best!

@@talha4289 yep! Thank you
@@malaya3367 can you please explain why I still didn’t understand 😭
@@Ham1_697 okay so, one solution is when x, or whatever your variable is, is equal to a number. it will look like this: x=2. This is a one solution because your variable is equal to a number, and your number is equal to a variable. Next, is no solution. No solution is when a number equals a number of a different value. For example: 3=7. 3 has a different value than 7. infinitely many solutions is when both sides of the equation is equal. this can happen like this: 3x + 2 = 2 + 3x, or 1=1.
Before math test: omg I get it!
The day of test: Wait... how do u do this again?
Thanks for letting me remember... 😊
I’m watching this during an online test lmao 😂
off topic but your voice is calming
what in the case of linear equation in 3 variables ???????
why did u muliply the second equation by -2 at 5:05
To add the two equations later on and cancel one of them. Let's say.. X*2 =2x.. So we just want to remove one variable so we can find the value of the other one... As he did with the last equation
In simpler terms he did it so he could get rid of the 4y, and complete it

thanks a lot sir, you explain it better than in my class
Where are you getting the negative 2 to multiply to the equations. And how do you determine which one to multiply?
We r going to find the least common in the multiplication table of 4 and 2 since we want to isolate y. We r going to do : 4,8,12,16 while in table if 2 we got: 2,4,6,8 they both have have four as the last common now multiply by what gives us the fours? We 4x1=4 and 2x2=4 we want one positive y and the other y make it negative so we r going to choose to make x2 a negative so we r going to multiply the second equation with -2 to the whole equation. Got it?
Srry it was late but i hope i helped u

Plz tell me y u told to musltply by -2 is it because ur trying to get it to the other side?
Was the first part with the inconsistent independant etc for each bit mixed up? I think the no solution and many solutions got mixed up that part
I understand very well instead of lecturer you are good teacher
What if it is 1 = 0? is it inconsistent or does it mean that x variable has no solution?
That's great my concept is cleared now❤❤❤ wao
god bless this man 🙏🏽
Best than my teacher
Super explanation sir
But with the one solution, if you substitute the variables and continue wih the equation 3x + y = 17
Where it will become 17=17?
Is it now infinite solutions?
This isn’t exactly what I was looking for and it was exactly what I was looking for lol
Thank God for making this person... hands-down 🙏🏿 🙌 😌
many solutions is consistent, and... dependent (on what?) 0 = 0, it is consistent, and dependent on what?
Thank you....I was struggling to identify this but now it is clear...really helped a lot
How did you get the -2 in the Las one
Why did you use 7 to ➗ in this part 3:41 please reply so i could know
Thank you....😍💕😎❤
Thank you very huge
Best examples
Why did you add negative 2? I am so confused but I get your point across.
Oh because it's operation is eliminating method
So he could get positives to make it easier. He didn’t add it he multiplied it. x became -2x, 2y -4y, and 4: 8. He then got all the opposites which got him the answer.
3x+2y= 5....(1)
6x+4y= 8......(2)
So in order to equate either x or y
Multiply (1) by 2
6x+4y= 10 ....(3)
Now subtract this newly formed equation (3) with (2)
6x+4y= 8
(-)6x -(4y)= -(10)
