Emotiv's New Neuro-Headset

  • Emotiv is on the cutting edge of that technology with headgear that allows you to do things, such as make a toy car whiz by or help a quadriplegic mix music like a DJ using just their brain power. It works by scanning your brain for signals using the Emotiv EEG device on your head. That device then relays your signals through a brain-computer interface to detect emotions, interest and a slew of other things. Sarah Buhr demos the most recent prototype of Emotive's new wireless neuro-headset.

      +TayTheEpicGamer They aren't far off from being able to implant signals into the brain, they have enabled blind people to see using sophisticated brain implants to the ability to see through a cameras lens. They just need to find a way to effect the brain remotely and in such a way that it doesn't cause cancer or brain damage. =D The Neurophone actually implants audio bypassing the ear and the inner ear, truly deaf can hear with a neurophone. But if the person is nerve death, due to dead nerves... then no, the neurophone may not work for them. The neurophone works on a vibration principal in that your skin can transmit sound via ultrasonic transducers straight to the brain. The idea is the vibration matches the "carrier wave" of the nerve and portions of the brain that deal with sound processing, process it and interpret it as sound with a little practice you can expand the range of sound you can hear. Some people believe the neurophone helps develop ESP.

    Texting by thinking
    In addition to 5G, phones are now available with the option of texting by thought power alone.* This is achieved by a combination of eye-tracking technology and a sensor-mounted headset worn by the user. The headset contains a wireless brain-machine interface, which detects electrical brain waves and converts them into digital signals, then displays the resulting letters on-screen.*
    Some high-end models can be used with glasses or visors featuring displays built into their lenses. This enables completely hands-free texting, creating a form of virtual telepathy. The process is relatively slow at this stage, requiring a high degree of mental concentration. It is more of a novelty for now. However, advances in subsequent years enable smooth and fast interactions, revolutionising the world of communication.

      Depends on how precise the device is. Apparently each action you have to program. So you have to hold that thought and that brain pattern is saved for that action you designated it to. The more and longer you calibrate it the easier and faster the program picks it up is what they showed in the 2007 video. So I would assume you could calibrate a HUGE amount of actions for hands free computer use but it is limited by how fast the device can register clearly these thoughts/actions. I assume it possibly might not be fast enough currently since the technology is somewhat new and there is no physical contact with electrodes like with high end medical equipment machines. But I bet if enough research is put into it, it could be developed enough to where it could register fast enough with complex multiple actions at once. Which would be sooooo awesome.
      But as it is, it totally seems up to par for handicap people and basic singular functions that could really change their life. Like turning on lights in a room, controlling temp, unlocking and opening their front door if there is a special machine hooked up, moving a wheel chair around, calling 911 on a speed dial or just calling anyone in general and writing a prerecorded message to be played over the phone even though it would be letter by letter and slow. Those are massive things for say a paraplegic who can't even talk or move. Omg it would change their world. Shocked it's taking so long actually if it was marketed towards that they'd have huge funding I bet and it would really advance this technology faster for us who want to use it for fun like video games and typing faster lol.

    This as a main CPU Interface hardwired to a main control for a ship or any type of vehicle that we design can be maneuvered just with thought or sidelined thought. It would be possible to multitask on like GOD level and leave the actual body free of work load and wear and tear on the person period. No joint pain back sore feet . All you would have to do to be a captain of a ship is have previous knowledge of shipping laws and maritime traffic law and a GPS. Just lay there and pilot your vessel want with just a thought.

    Why do people keep mentioning SAO, its not how this works at all. Nerve gear intercepted and read electrical signals to your muscles to apply into the game and prevent you from moving in real life. This only can read brain scans, kinda like a cat scan or something. Not at all reading your muscle signals, that would be something like Myo or something else that reads signals to the muscles...

      aerowenn reminding people that theres more to the world than anime fantasies is taking the high road, however trying to attack someone for pointing it out most certainly isnt. I am curious however what kind of person it takes to be, to attack someone that only wants to point out the many benefits a device like this would help people.

    • @aerowenn
      @aerowenn Před 9 lety +2

      Ashton Von Helst Attack? If a rhetorical question is considered attack, then we have became way too PC and sensitive as a species. People can discuss or think about whatever they want, if helping disadvantaged isn't the first thing that comes to mind, that's unfortunate, but approaching it by saying "I find it interesting..." might as well say "You all are a bunch of selfish bastards." That's really going to win the minds of the people. I have a disabled/special needs daughter. I'm always looking for things to improve her life, but I'm not going to look down on people for not making it their first priority.

    • @TheCangar
      @TheCangar Před 7 lety

      well, yeah... of course maybe at some point in the future yes. but trust me, i work in the field, doing research in EEG during movements (high quality 160 channel EEG not the pseudo-EEG stuff from emotiv), and it's already insanely hard to get real information out of regular EEG with conductive gel between the electrode and the scalp. there are dry electrodes, like the emotiv stuff, and other consumer products, and also some research grade EEG systems with dry electrodes, but as soon as you start moving, the artifacts in the EEG get just too big to control and filter them. even thinking of EEG data collection with electrical sensors from a distance, meaning not directly connected to the scalp, is just a ridiculous speculation likely for the next few decades or much more. BTW, the chess program's name is "Deep Blue" ;-)
