- Emotiv is on the cutting edge of that technology with headgear that allows you to do things, such as make a toy car whiz by or help a quadriplegic mix music like a DJ using just their brain power. It works by scanning your brain for signals using the Emotiv EEG device on your head. That device then relays your signals through a brain-computer interface to detect emotions, interest and a slew of other things. Sarah Buhr demos the most recent prototype of Emotive's new wireless neuro-headset.

1 step closer to the nervegear!
It's kinda sad, but we both probably had these first thoughts. XD
One step closer to cyborgs!....i mean working prosthetic limbs for amputees
oculus rift + EEG = SAO!!! LOL am crazy for a Virtual Reality GAME!!!!!
I cant wait till they make it do what the nerve gear does in SAO. This is making me so tingley .
Sweet Gaming
But maybe not kill people...
Well... what a coincidence.... good VR at the same time as a brain wave controller... NERVE GEAR!
Xd
Sao ftw
Just saw another void about VR tech predictions. SAO takes place in 2022. VRs like nerve gear are predicted to be available in 2020s

@@issacbaxter503 i come from the future, and no they wont be
Imagine using this for a real vr headset. No more 3d 360degree headset more virtual reality. You could control a character in game like you were actually moving in real life. Although it isn't quite at that stage the potential is definitely there
this is flipping awesome! so many applications are going to be available to handicapped!
What if you could alter the brains perspective of time so that we could spend days in VR but only moments have passed in real life.
+Specter Makoto i was thinking the exact same thing
+Specter Makoto well this doesn't do anything to your brain it just views it and does stuff based on what you told this thought means and what to do with it does that make sense?
+Specter Makoto Your perception of time is fairly rigid and difficult to change without drugs or invasive means. Even if you did change your mind along the lines you're talking about, there could be unhealthy consequences like overworking your neural network.
It may be possible to speed up brainwaves but even doing that may be difficult.
that wouldn't be a good idea how scared would you be to wake up after 10 hours of VR time to only 12 min completely forgetting where you where
Tan (Le) is a talented and tenacious entrepreneur, and an awesome person. Great to see that she is still at it!
I am happy to be alive to see such great inventions.
Same
There's nothing you can do about it, it's happening, and the new world simply isn't meant for you. Sorry!
This is amazing. I have this idea for this one application/program for this. It probably exists already, but it would be like a sort of 3d modeling program, and if you think about something, you can mold that shape into existence, and you could create simulations, animations, or levels for video games with your mind.
Absolutely. I am thinking this would be so perfect for makers
I have a question should I get the epoc/epoc+ or the Insight I want to use it for gaming or just general control of the/my/a computer/robot
Can someone tell me the name of the software that she was using to train her brain? The one with the cube moving forward.
We've had this technology for years. We acquired it when the Grays crashed landed in Rozswell, New Mexico back in the 40's.
Funny. We didn't have anything near portable or fast and storage-compact.
Can this emotive device be used for BCI Spell System?Spell system is system in which a person thinks an letter in his mind, then BCI displays the letter which the user thinks in his mind into console...
So COOL!! Gotto get into this field!
We just need some full dive shit!!! And maybe augmented reality? But this makes me really excited and hyped! CAN'T WAIT TO GET ONE!
wow, amazing tech; I see a value in controlling devices and even prosthetic limbs and the like. It was also cool to see the signals branching out through the brain. It doesn't look to me that we only use a small part of the brain, I saw most of the brain being used; so for me that is a new observation. Am I wrong about that?
Its like magic or superpower thingy?! Woah cool!
I want this SDK... Must have it...
How exactly does this work? working on a project, might have to do with SAO who knows ;D
heyyyy, if you refine this technology and like build exoskeleton-thingys and combine the two then couldn't paralyzed people move again?
Really good thinking please email them!
I would love to use this to speed up my workflow, maybe use it with macros, to send series of automated commands to the program at hand

Thumbs up if SwordArtOnline brought you to find this!
TayTheEpicGamer that or dot hack, XD
How the hack did you know that XD
+TayTheEpicGamer They aren't far off from being able to implant signals into the brain, they have enabled blind people to see using sophisticated brain implants to the ability to see through a cameras lens. They just need to find a way to effect the brain remotely and in such a way that it doesn't cause cancer or brain damage. =D The Neurophone actually implants audio bypassing the ear and the inner ear, truly deaf can hear with a neurophone. But if the person is nerve death, due to dead nerves... then no, the neurophone may not work for them. The neurophone works on a vibration principal in that your skin can transmit sound via ultrasonic transducers straight to the brain. The idea is the vibration matches the "carrier wave" of the nerve and portions of the brain that deal with sound processing, process it and interpret it as sound with a little practice you can expand the range of sound you can hear. Some people believe the neurophone helps develop ESP.
LOL first thing I see
Yardiee more of ghost in the shell for me.
watching in 2016 wow!
Cool, but I've been thinking about buying this for myself, but idunno from where someone please help me..
cuando sale
cual es el precio?
how is thas a cost
Turning pages and moving mouse cursors for quadripolegic.
SAO here I come. First thing I get into SAO i'm just going to scream at the top of my lungs, "KAYABAAAA"
interviewer has to interrupt the lady every time...
amazing innovation
Lol @ the interviewer having no clue on the implication of such consumer level state of art of the technology in 2014. By 2030 this and VR/AR will be so polished it will be just like a sci-fi distopia.
Oof
Why not use on Sao ??
How could I join in with this research?
Can by used with arduino?
Hello dear. I need the Emotiv SDK for one of my science project. Can you tell me where I can get it??
What is it about? I'd really like to know :).
Where can I buy one?
How can i buy this thing
Awesome !!
Nerve gear? maybe?
Hey @TechCrunch do you mind redoing the interview with an interviewer who is interested in the device?
How does the car react to the device
Holy hell this is amazing I want one
i've been having an insight for almost a year now and the beta testing still didnt deliver any working software that allow me to use my pc or phone with this thing. im still waiting for the emotiv site to present useful apps!!!!
How may i buy it?
Is it better than OCZ NIA?
HOLY SHIT SHE IS USING THE FORCE 1:21, this could only mean she is a jedi!
I would be impressed if the car turned to the left or right on command. Not just go forward. Reverse would be pretty cool too…
How can you connekt it to things??? I would wanna know before i buy it... Wait is it even for sale?!?
Update: many eeg headsets are up for sale
Full dive imersion? would that work?
like playing a game but we are the avatar?
look at sao if u dont get it
How mưch is the price for this Headset?
Yes data mining is not Scarry enough let's add brainwave info to it.
What is the name of this headset?
Magicians would love this!
Are you guys try VR+ headset staff?
Now I can use the force to move every toy car
Can you map people's brains and help them balance issues such as bi-polar as opposed to making more consumer monsters?
it would be cool if this were used in a nervegear or amusphere type VR headset and just like in sao you're fully immersed into the game and can move just as easily as you could in the real world while you're in the game.
+The Shadow Devil Slayer Yeah but there are some problem's I can think of like instead of the tutorial just being "press (X) to do blah blah" it would be "think blank for ten seconds in three two one" and then a countdown going from ten to zero where you would have to think blah blah for ten seconds and you'd have to do that for every action sound fun? probably not but I think it would be worth it like "think YES for ten seconds" so when an NPC asks you something you can respond (or it could be a combo of voice thought and facial expression) and then there's the issue of dumb people saying stuff like "THERE GOING TO SPY ON MY THOUGHTS!!!" or "THIS IS A MIND CONTROL DEVICE" oh yeah do you think I should I get the epoc/epoc+ or the Insight I want to use it for gaming or just general control of the/my/a computer/robot
Mage Enderman I mean if you've ever watched sword art online you'd notice that they seem to move in the game the same way they would in real life, of course there may be safety concerns in using the technology necessary for this but that's what beta testing is for, actually that's what pre beta testing is for.
I'm getting my device in March. Hoping to do some crazy shit with it, wish me luck.
+igot2remember let me know if it's any good I want to get the Insight one because I want to use it for gaming or just general control of the/my/a computer/robot let me know if I could do that
Update? Lol
When I hear she says "... machine learning algorithm..." I go crazy... It seems that we will not be able to live without ML/AI
try to get the big girl to learn how to listen.
She is trying to describe a though or feeling. Something that happens in the matter of a millisecond or one thousandth of a second. To a gamer like me this headset as well as a Playstation VR headset would be the greatest gaming setup ever. When does emotiv release?
Pity your friends didn't grow up with someone with a high IQ.
Yeah she's a poor interviewer.. She tries talking over the person she is attempting to get information out of lol.. it seems like she is thinking of responses and not actually listening and then responding haha. The irony of this is unbearable... a company derived at creating/measuring focus, and an interviewer who can't seem to focus lol!
@live foreverclara Isn't that like saying the keyboard/mouse controls your fingers/hand?
Does it detect feelings like hunger and thirst?
They need to implement this into gaming! Just imagine combining this with the Occulus Rift and being in a open world where you have super powers and can activate them with your mind. That would be f**kn EPIC!
+omuyasha *Sword Art Online intensifies*
*ahem* Sword Art Online.... we're getting so close guys.... ^_^
Yep! I even read up that a company made a proposition and said they could very well have a full dive system by 2018 which is 4 years faster than it took to be created in the anime! I would love to go hunting in a party or even to hunt in a guild in SAO or attack as a giant monster using illusion magic as a Spiggin!
Fuck that... fps games will be so awesome.
What's the Company called, dude?
@@kamanira And now its almost 2019 and nothing happenend.
@@beatrixronge3714 No actually we.We have recently been able to send signals to a brain using ultrasound. It was used to control a mouses tail.So we may only need a few more years
OMG, give it to me, watching these after SAO ordinal scale is giving me goosebumps

Texting by thinking
In addition to 5G, phones are now available with the option of texting by thought power alone.* This is achieved by a combination of eye-tracking technology and a sensor-mounted headset worn by the user. The headset contains a wireless brain-machine interface, which detects electrical brain waves and converts them into digital signals, then displays the resulting letters on-screen.*
Some high-end models can be used with glasses or visors featuring displays built into their lenses. This enables completely hands-free texting, creating a form of virtual telepathy. The process is relatively slow at this stage, requiring a high degree of mental concentration. It is more of a novelty for now. However, advances in subsequent years enable smooth and fast interactions, revolutionising the world of communication.
This is fucking hugely epic. wow. I love this!
Not sure but how i do it I can edited music, video with out NO headgear no talking just from thinking just myself and my brain with thoughts and a phone or tv usually I would have subliminal conversation in music or entertainment I actually like to learn more or why me no one ever take me seriously or even help figure out.when I show them in person they would ignore it or brush it off or say it impossible even when I proved it over and over.
Always wanted to do this for someone that has lost use of a limb
+Ricardo Fraser they are working on that tech interfacing this kind of tech with prosthetics. direct brain interfaces are also being developed which at this point are most impressive, but they require physically wiring up the brain with microchips. google darpa braingate.
Yes, I remember seeing a video on this recently.
Muse Headset, Oculus Rift, Eye tracker Tech, I think combining these things would really help with what you guys do. First you combine the oculus rift with eye tracker tech, then you put a video in the oculus rift, then you record the minds reaction to what it sees. I mean that is just how I would go about it. I would use people who can focus well, not people with ADD like myself, who's mind would wonder off.
+TheMrStoryTeller I believe this Emotiv headset can/does track your eyes........ since ya know it reads your brain patterns/waves and you control your eyes with your brain......
TheMrStoryTeller
If you could control every electronic device you own with the headset, I'd want it even more.
For example
Coffee maker - makes cappuccino - drone - takes the coffee to me after I have been thinking make a cappuccino and bring it to my bed room,
Put it on my coffee table... ...
+Aaron Wise I don't think it can. every electronic product should be made compatible with the headset in order to be able to control it. unless there is a genius who can make some sort of script, program, or another device to bridge them.
zeroline19 well maybe one day
Will this work for data entry? Can it replace keyboards?
Thanks.
It could if you think of the right thing though. Think a over and over eventually it can type a. Not words though, at least not yet.
Depends on how precise the device is. Apparently each action you have to program. So you have to hold that thought and that brain pattern is saved for that action you designated it to. The more and longer you calibrate it the easier and faster the program picks it up is what they showed in the 2007 video. So I would assume you could calibrate a HUGE amount of actions for hands free computer use but it is limited by how fast the device can register clearly these thoughts/actions. I assume it possibly might not be fast enough currently since the technology is somewhat new and there is no physical contact with electrodes like with high end medical equipment machines. But I bet if enough research is put into it, it could be developed enough to where it could register fast enough with complex multiple actions at once. Which would be sooooo awesome.
But as it is, it totally seems up to par for handicap people and basic singular functions that could really change their life. Like turning on lights in a room, controlling temp, unlocking and opening their front door if there is a special machine hooked up, moving a wheel chair around, calling 911 on a speed dial or just calling anyone in general and writing a prerecorded message to be played over the phone even though it would be letter by letter and slow. Those are massive things for say a paraplegic who can't even talk or move. Omg it would change their world. Shocked it's taking so long actually if it was marketed towards that they'd have huge funding I bet and it would really advance this technology faster for us who want to use it for fun like video games and typing faster lol.
great tech.
Every one here should realize that it measures brain activity which means it uses recognition of past thoughts and tries to find where the brain is active at the time and then you assign a function to this recognition.
+Howard Kurtus yeah! unlike this comment which is just a little bit above your comment by someone named fallenempireoverdrve who said and I quote DON'T HACK MY BRAIN!
I'm not saying this was designed by aliens...BUT IT WAS ALIENS.
This as a main CPU Interface hardwired to a main control for a ship or any type of vehicle that we design can be maneuvered just with thought or sidelined thought. It would be possible to multitask on like GOD level and leave the actual body free of work load and wear and tear on the person period. No joint pain back sore feet . All you would have to do to be a captain of a ship is have previous knowledge of shipping laws and maritime traffic law and a GPS. Just lay there and pilot your vessel want with just a thought.
It would be awesome if we can type with it, instead of using our hands.
+don1559 I always thinking the same thing.
+don1559 good luck with training it.
this would be cooler for turning things on in your house
would still not work with your GF ;-)
hello world
just use hololens for that... or voice control on a headset connected to a remote server running some custom code. that can already be done with today's tech with the help of the IOT.
This is awesome but scary as well. Imagine programming this to send subtle ads directly to your mind. Man I don't use tampons but I need to buy a case! The ones with wings.
That is not possible right now.
This doesn't input anything *to* the brain, it only detects output.
i wonder how long it would be before we wont need that device, seeing as we would be training our brain too.
in conjunction with Kinect yeah?
Where can I get Emotiv headset from...
Update: czcams.com/video/7TtLFllWo8M/video.html
Will this be able to help someone with disabilities ?
Like MS
Why do people keep mentioning SAO, its not how this works at all. Nerve gear intercepted and read electrical signals to your muscles to apply into the game and prevent you from moving in real life. This only can read brain scans, kinda like a cat scan or something. Not at all reading your muscle signals, that would be something like Myo or something else that reads signals to the muscles...
where to buy this ??
On they're website... 299 for the headset, 59,- for the usb receiver m8
does anyone known when full dive be will come
I find it interesting that the first thing ppl think about when watching this SAO. They dont think about helping anyone else but themselves to the wonders this product can do for mentally challenged individuals or for disabled vets.
Is trying to shame people on CZcams taking the high road then?
aerowenn reminding people that theres more to the world than anime fantasies is taking the high road, however trying to attack someone for pointing it out most certainly isnt. I am curious however what kind of person it takes to be, to attack someone that only wants to point out the many benefits a device like this would help people.
Ashton Von Helst Attack? If a rhetorical question is considered attack, then we have became way too PC and sensitive as a species. People can discuss or think about whatever they want, if helping disadvantaged isn't the first thing that comes to mind, that's unfortunate, but approaching it by saying "I find it interesting..." might as well say "You all are a bunch of selfish bastards." That's really going to win the minds of the people. I have a disabled/special needs daughter. I'm always looking for things to improve her life, but I'm not going to look down on people for not making it their first priority.
Awesome! Can't wait to see what these technologies will bring.
On the other hand, seems kind of dangerous for untrained minds - are we always able to control our thoughts?
Probably not.
The thing that really want is for the technology to input feelings like taste,touch,E.t.c
+Specter Makoto I would love to see input devices! that would be so cool. then the only remaining barrier to full immersion vr would be stopping the body from wandering around and running into walls and objects.
Cool!
With this can I train my brain to move things without the device???
Battlemechs, 'nuff said. XD
Very non lethal version of the nerve gear. Though you still have to look at a screen... :/
Soon, my child. Soon...
yea but atleast soon u might not need to use a keyboard a mouse or a controller
Diego Flores I could just imagine myself inside the game
The Nervegear can possibly be made now....
Strap on a jetpack so I can fly with my mind
so... did google buy them already?
HOLY SHIT!!! ARTIFICIAL TELEKINESIS!!! Why stop with wheelchair? create a robotic exoskeleton and wire it to respond to the brainwaves so that those paralyzed or even with prosthetics can control their bodies like normal. It will also be fun/funny to yoink those people's headset and start making them do stuff they down want.
Facebook should buy emotiv so that they can have this headset combined with the oculus rift : )

You know the way this is described how to influence the objects is the same way you use your chi to manipulate objects
Curious why this hasn't really caught on. Not enough fidelity? Not intuitive enough? No defined use case?
a mass EEG that detects brainwaves from a distance would be scary and awesome
I agree
and also impossible.
TheCangar1 that's what they said about the moon landing with a calculator grade computer or the guy who said we can't fly anything hevier than air or LiFI or the chess player lost from the Deep Mind AI :D
well, yeah... of course maybe at some point in the future yes. but trust me, i work in the field, doing research in EEG during movements (high quality 160 channel EEG not the pseudo-EEG stuff from emotiv), and it's already insanely hard to get real information out of regular EEG with conductive gel between the electrode and the scalp. there are dry electrodes, like the emotiv stuff, and other consumer products, and also some research grade EEG systems with dry electrodes, but as soon as you start moving, the artifacts in the EEG get just too big to control and filter them. even thinking of EEG data collection with electrical sensors from a distance, meaning not directly connected to the scalp, is just a ridiculous speculation likely for the next few decades or much more. BTW, the chess program's name is "Deep Blue" ;-)
TheCangar1 who knows maybe we won't end up using the standard eeg if ever that happens yeah i know deep blue. hehe
