Imho Gerrard had the edge over Lampard. Lampard had a really great team behind him for alot of his peak.. Gerrard was in a not so great Pool team often and still managed to be at lamps' level.

I felt so bad when I watched that Crystal Palace game back in 2014. The moment Dwight Gayle scored I knew they handed the title to us. No other player in the Premier League deserved the title more than Steven. What a team Liverpool had that season. One of the best midfielders of his generation, a leader and was always there for them. Hopefully we'll see Steven Gerrard back at Anfield as a manager someday, what an absolute legend!

Steven Gerrard is a true icon, who was inspirational to the Champions League squad who, much like Leicester, were pretty average. Frank Lampard wasn't even a captain, so there's really no contest.
Lampard was a captain, his performances in the ucl are evidence of that.
You say no contest, but Lampard exceeds him in goals and assists by a mile. You cannot say Liverpool have always been average, that's just another excuse to cover up Gerrard's lack of a pl trophy.
