I would love to see a player like Avery in this new NHL. Along with Matthew Barnaby. I couldn’t stand either of them but it was fun watching them and hating them.
At least Barnaby would fight ANYONE. Sean would turtle or evade if any true enforcer wanted to go with him. Avery was definitely an effective guy on the ice at times but he wasn’t as crazy as Barnaby any day of the week.
Indeed, showing open disdain and disrespect towards French-Canadians is a sign of authenticity and honesty ^^ Amazing that 56 people agree... "We love you" we heard some years ago in Montréal lol
Honesty according to himself everyone he says something it's stupid derogatory comments like profiling french Canadian hockey players , and ex girlfriends no wonder the league wouldn't let him play anymore a victim of his own demise and all he had to do was think before he spoke , it's to bad too he was a good player who could have been more respected if only he gave a little out
just to clarify the situation here for the Anglos-Canadians, he's talking trash about Denis Gauthier, the next game they faced off Denis invited him, put his helmet on the ice, Avery chickened out of course, but nobody is talking about it, anyway good for him tho, otherwise he'd be dead or paraplegic, Denis' fafther was a wrestler, both his uncle were in the WWF, the Rougeau brothers, his grandad is Jacques Rougeau Sr, one of the toughest Canadian man ever
It sounds a little abrasive the way he put it but there is a lot of truth to it, Claude Lemieux is the prime example of that. If you wanna play tough lose the windshield.
French players "run around and play tough and can't back anything up"?????? ... Wow, that's a perfect description of Sean Avery, who pussied out of fights and hid behind refs and linesmen ..... unless, of course, he was bigger than the other guy -- and even then he got his ass beat pretty much every time time.
Darren H what are you talking about? Do you even know how small Avery was? He fought all the time including heavy weights and 9 out of 10 times was the smaller player. Plus he wasn’t a fighter, he was an agitator and better than anyone else at it.
@Jokerman786 I'm pretty sure...if not mandatory it's strongly recommended. The only exceptions are people who didn't wear visors before I think 05? I'm certain I heard something about that...besides do you see any young players with visors on?
@Kenevin The gap is much greater than what, exactly? I am not sure if this is an incomplete thought or a misspelling by an ESL'er. (Uses Google) Ok, so this NDP is more in favor of expanded provincial rights and socialism and opposed to outright separation from Canada, do I have that right?
Best hockey team of all-time... Montreal Canadians and at that time, they were almost all french canadians... Maurice Richard, most couragous hockey player Henri Richard, most stanley cups (11) Patrick Roy and Martin Brodeur, best goaltenders of all time Guy Lafleur, one of the best Marcel Dionne, one of the best Hockey without french canadians is nothing period.
@kyuss4me As I clearly said, if you instigate a fight with a visor on, you get an additional 2 (on top of instigator). Since Kennedy did not instigate the fight, he did not get an instigator penalty. Since he did not get an instigator penalty, rule 46.6 does not apply. Quite simple really.
@joe579003 The last referendum(1995) was 51-49. Which means that 16 years ago, the majority of Quebecers did not want to seperate. The gap is much greater than, as illustrated by the Orange Wave that swept through the province last spring.
@1103Maverick Hummm, I'm from Qc and I agree with you that a lot of the best players to play the game were French canadians (Roy, "Rocket", Lafleur, Béliveau, Brodeur, Lemieux...) The only thing is: Sean COuturier is Born in Phoenix, AR (American) and Claide Griroux is born in Ontario and french is not his Native Language =S
Avery is acusing French guys of "running around, playing tough and cant back anything up" .... LOL .... Sean Avery is the MASTER of running around, talking tough, but not being able to back it up. Just ask any of the many players who've tried to fight him while he runs and hides behind the ref.
all he did was score clutch goals and play hard ..yes he yapped but he fought plenty of times and did not end careers or injure people like matt cooke pk subban . and hes truly hilarious.
Sean Avery was despised all around the league. He built his reputation around the fact that he would talk all that sh*t while very rarely "backing anything up". The kinda guy who would invite a guy to fight, just to not drop the gloves and turtle up when the other guy drops his gloves. Making this whole thing pretty ironic.
Look, I'm a Frenchie and though what he said does not really make sense, there's really nothing I find offensive in it. He was primarily commenting the hit, not French-Canadian culture. Rien d'autre à dire !
@joe579003 The NDP has no interest in separation. You're right, it was an incomplete thought, the gap is much greater than it was then. Immigration has played a great part in that and the conservative separatist have lost faith in the Bloc Québécois and the Parti Québécois. The seperatist dream is over, the idea has been forgotten. Some keep try to keep it alive, but, ultimately, nobody really talks about it anymore. Especially not in Montréal.
tant de racisme au canada anglais envers les francophones dans les commentaires c est a lever le coeur j espere qu un jour on aura notre pays sans les francophones le canada serait insignifiant et sans interet
I agree Lemieux had such a good reach. Great players make stuff happen with shitty passes like Mario. That Oagih90aa obviously has only started watching hockey the past couple years.
Yeah...Avery should talk about guys running around acting tough and can't back anything up. The guys he puts his fists up against are guys that aren't even tough to begin with...did you ever see Avery fight a guy that is? Never happened because Avery would invariably always skate away chirping like the little cowardly pussy that he is.
+Daniel Rampazzo Yeah except that time when he skated directly from the bench all the way to the end zone to seek out Zenon Konopka (who had a week earlier called out a Ranger (Wolski) for a hit) waited for Konopka to get his elbow guard off (which literally took him 5 or 6 seconds, Avery was just standing there waiting) and then proceeded to square up and fight. So, is Konopka not tough? LOL i'd love for you to talk your game to Avery's face
i'm not a qubeker but just alot of the league's best players were and still are french, ex: Lecavalier, Lafleur, Gagné, St-Louis, Brodeur, Roy etc etc... and tought quebekers, lemme think, LARAQUE....
fact, brashear is actually from africa. he grew up in the city of Nairobi and a scout just happend to see him play a game of roller hockey and he controlled his opponents so amazingly and had such great hands that they invited him to a tryout for Ste-Foy-Gouverneurs of the Quebec Major Junior League. He came her. Roller hockey is big in Nairobi but he made the adjustment to ice skating very well. He had to make adjustment to the food though as he only at jungle fruits for most of his life
This is all bullshit. He was born in Indiana and abused most his upbringing. He was eventually raised in foster care in Quebec where his mother was from. But cool story bro
One of the great things about being canadian is the ability to get your face slaped or nose broken in many launguages. As a kid growing up in the Timmins Area of Northern Ontario i had friends and enemys of all religions and launguages. Simpler times when all we had to worry about was the Hbomb
I would love to see a player like Avery in this new NHL. Along with Matthew Barnaby. I couldn’t stand either of them but it was fun watching them and hating them.
Agreed. They are entertaining. Also refreshing for Sean to speak his mind.
Barnaby was a hell of a character, and an entertainer. I agree, you hate both when they're not on your team, but love them when they are.
At least Barnaby would fight ANYONE. Sean would turtle or evade if any true enforcer wanted to go with him. Avery was definitely an effective guy on the ice at times but he wasn’t as crazy as Barnaby any day of the week.
It's funny how people say they respect honesty, then when someone speaks their mind, people get offended
Musicrecords10 there is a clear difference between being a hypocritical little punk who puts everyone on the same boat and honesty.

I'm sure this player learned his lesson and behaved well for the remainder of his career. GOOD DAY TO YOU SIR!!!!
Playing with a visor is not a sign of weakness, it's a sign of intelligence! Ask Marc Staal?
Not in those days. Hard men didnt wear visors.
I'll leave you alone on this one😆🥊
