- In this video, you will see my process of making a mixed media art journal spread. These pages are done in layers and I share all the layering order for you to follow and make your own pages. I do art journaling for the process as well as the final result as it helps me with my self-care, mental health and well-being routines too. I really believe making art and working creatively is such an essential and useful tool to have in my toolbox to help me on a physical, mental and emotional level. Plus its lots of fun and brings joy!

Thanks so much. Watching this will help me to get back into the studio and do more journals & painting. During Covid and my husband’s long decline then death, I did a lot of small “ugly” journaling which helped me to have some sanity. Now I am redoing the house to make it my own. But, the studio is calling.

I spend almost every Sunday at a local coffee shop and watercolor or art journal depending on my mood while listening/watching something on my tablet. . I love it! That feeling of being in a trace like state, where no one else exists. Just you and what ever you are working on at the time. Cheers from southern California.

I could never be a digital artist! I mean never be able to feel the textures of the different elements and figuring out how they fit together and become cohesive!….oh and the beautiful finished project that has my touch and essence in it. To be part of a hands on piece of myself and what I’m feeling during the work on that project is only one of a kind and could never be duplicated digitally or emotionally. Digital takes all the heart and soul out of a masterpiece that gets our hands colorful and sticky and stained. Sorry I got on a tangent there. Thank you for sharing yourself with us
I love journaling. I have my journaling mornings and evenings every day. I use watercolours, dried herbs, leaves, old photos, pencils and whatever I have on me. Sometimes I write a story, sometimes words start to couple to form a poem. It is a beautiful journey. :-)

I sold my house and lived on a 34 foot motorhome for 2 years, and that is quite a tiny home as well with another person, and it was also a challenge for me, being a mixed media artist, who works with resin, making jewelry, and also collage, etc. It was difficult as i had projects always awaiting my attention in my very organized storage unit, but the cold and rain here made me not want to be in there in the winter, so I felt frustrated not to be working on the projects I wanted to work on!! I also do photography and video, and journaling, so I did what I could on the bus....I still live in a tiny tiny space - and long for my old house at times....I had a great workshop space....miss those days, lately have been very nostalgic for old times in my life...This year has been...sad and difficult for me...I am trying to keep getting back up ( I also have a lot of anxiety over all this and it seems to at times render me .... unable to start or work on anything! ) and re focusing on some project, throw myself back into making videos, playing with my grandkids....I just keep trying. Happy I found your videos today, and watching a bunch of them and sub'ing! Wonderful, thank you!

When I discovered you about three months ago, I also came across junk journaling. So I made my own book of assorted pages and started to paint, paste and decorate with washi tape. I also started to collect quotes and try to put a quote on every page.
Love this video. I think I may view the world around me in this way. So many small bits of life to piece together and to be so fast the process can seem so very slow. I feel so much better knowing that I am not the only one that has loads of little things to look at and sift through in order to discover those tiny gems of inspiration that can then be combined and turned into self expression. I am so glad that you embarked upon this journey and offer it to the world. Thank you 😄💝

I art journal in the same way. I just choose things that inspire me that day, and I just make it up as I go along. If I don’t like it (which is rare), I gesso or collage over it
I wish I had a fast speed button so I could clean up as fast as you did in the video. Haha. Since COVID, my livingroom has turned into my craft room. My poor husband. But all this mess is getting me through all this staying home. You are the first person I have seen that shows actually writing in your journals. Such fun eh!! Thanks for helping us all feel better.
I carve mythological creations from cypress knees, but am preparing to begin journaling. Your videos are incredibly inspiring. I had absolutely no idea where to begin or what to use. We have very similar methods of art journaling. I like turning on your channel when I am in my studio working. You chose excellent music for this vid. It was quite lovely- as is your work and your way about life. My art journal is absolutely therapeutic. I def. use mine as a thought processing tool of sorts. This year I have been a bit artistically (pardon me) constipated because of all that has been happening in the world and silly politics in my country (US). Watching your channel has certainly helped calm the noise and finally get some art on paper. Thank you. Much gratitude.
I really do not have much experience in art Journaling. I have worked on a few. I too, love to draw women's faces. I love abstract also. I love to write and put some of my own thoughts in my journal. Your video was so interesting and relaxing. Feeling inspired from Texas!! 🖌📚🖊
Thank you for this. I would never think of using my nightmares in this way, but you make me realise I should probably do that. I always write about them in my journal, to get them out of my system, to get rid of the fear and to then really understand what the dream is trying to tell me. Great job sorting and I organizing! It was so fun to see you do what I've been doing in lockdown (in fast forward.) It's such a great feeling of accomplishment! I have loads more to do but took a break to re-decorate from Fall/Autumn to Winter/Christmas. Living in Florida, we have about 8 long summer months and hopefully 4 very nice winter months. Hence, there's very little/subtle changes outdoors so I redecorate the four seasons inside my home, mostly with artwork. I am so tickled to have found you! I even enjoy reading what others have commented. Such a great community and a blessing while our social lives have become so limited. My main outing is food shopping a couple of times a month, but I do love to cook and bake now that it's the holiday season. I give my baked goods as gifts in lieu of "presents!"

This is my fave video so far, I love art journalling. Love drawing faces, collage, layers and the textures from all the layers are so satisfying 😊 your work is beautiful. Art journalling keeps be sane, for a long time I didn’t have words for some of the trauma I’d been through so I drew pictures instead. Definitely helped me process things!

Hello love! Just found your channel. Im an abstract artist but got into art journalling about 5 years ago. Ive found it very helpful with dealing with chronic illness.as well as my mental health. I firmly believe art journalling keeps me going. When i could no longer work as a psychotherapist because of illness, i nearly gave up. But thanks to finding art journalling while bed ridden and watching youtube, i now have something that helps me a great deal. I actually thought art journals were just sketchbooks like we had at art school... but they are so much mord than that. Much love and happy hippie vibes to you dear❤

What kind of glue are you using? It looks really easy to use and I imagine it smoothens the page well, preparing it for writing.

I really want to start art journalling so it's very helpful to see how you create your layers. I have quite a few unused art supplies and materials so I think it will be a good way to start using them. Can I ask if you ever use pastels or charcoal in your art journals? I'd like to but think it might just get too messy and smudged.

Do you typically create your art first and then write over it or do you write first and then create art over the writing? This one issue is holding me back from jumping into the journaling😖.I know there are no rules but I am afraid I may need a guidebook🙄

Hi Emma, yes do start, use those supplies! Feels so good to open them and actually use them! I don’t tend to use pastels or charcoal in my journals as, like you say, they are messy. I have in the past & used a fixative or some hairspray though and maybe a leaf of velum or parchment paper taped in between the pages is good too. Much love and good luck 🌷🌷

It's a (matte or gloss) medium, used to thin out paints or in this case, stick everything in place :) cheers
