    An additional point: Anyone who seems to so much as speak Xau-Tak's name ends up diving head first into madness. A being capable of reacting to even its mere name being uttered sure sounds like they got some serious power. Makes me wonder what Xau-Tak's end game is, though. It goes around creating corpse ocean worlds, spreading shadow anima and death. Even the Elder Gods of anima had motivations, and a certain modus operandi to how they did their thing. They also had an end game goal which they worked towards. So what does Xau-Tak want, crave, or need as its endgame goal? Perhaps the clue is in the question, which is worth asking: Do we think we can save them?
    As for what Kerapac is doing to Jas in Erebus, provided he didn't perish in the process - Likely nothing too pleasant. That one is a vindictive one, and has a thirst for revenge like no other. So probably either torture, or very unethical experiments. So basically a buncha -redacted- level stuff.

    • @prideslayer77
      @prideslayer77  Před rokem +1

      I got cold chills from Do you think we can save them haha!
      So since you seem to be as enthusiastic as I am about deity, I'll share with you some stuff that didn't make the video, If you really want some insane specifications about what the Ambassador was trying to achieve at the shadow reef to read the umbral diplomacy and the other books from the shadow reef. He talks about frequency and I actually believe he knew he was going to die and that that was the final thing needed for the ritual to be complete, one could assume since the Elder gods were allergic to the shadow one could assume Xau Tak is as well, to regular anima. This is why I believe Zaros to be his vessel.
      Or perhaps even the corpse of jas in Erebus?
      Also another interesting thing is the obsidian tribunal, they kidnap saradomin daughter during endgame and hide her on one of their "tomb worlds" and Nex somehow finds and rescues her in like a few hours.
      This leads me to believe she knew and was told by the tribunal. Also the tribunal is the cult of mini bosses that used to be mwanu (cythan etc) and they worship tezcasathla but are protecting the ambassador meaning they're the same? What's your opinions on Vos? Also thank you so much for the awesome comment haha

      its almost like theres a harmonic or vibration or song of death (sea shanty) lmfao but i think theres another elder god out there too, and its not xau tak i think there is another one in our universe made of 'something else' perhaps a positive frequency idk. either way i can't wait to see all the lore tie in , i cant think of any other reason for nadir saga to be involved w necromancy unless xau tak is involved for sure and then have u seen the stuff Rasial has been saying in game?

      @@prideslayer77 I haven't been clued in to things Rasial has been saying, no. I ought to log in and see what he has to say.
      For Nex, I am not too surprised that she can sort this kinda stuff out in fast order. During the Battle for the Monolith in her new empowered state, she was going toe to toe with Saradomin. It took Saradomin (an experienced deity) some serious effort to send her packing. So Nex is definitely very powerful, as well as capable. To the magnitude of if something needs doing, and she can be convinced to help, it will get done. Her current Angel of Death form after all is the result of her being powered up by all four ancient elements. This also includes shadow, meaning she probably has some serious talent with shadow magic...that, or she can always get one of her four mage minions to help. They after all are bound to her existence, and thus she can presumably summon them on a whim to solve problems and assist where need be.
      I haven't done some of these miniquests myself, so am not too clued in on the lore with them. I should also read the lore books again.

      @@prideslayer77 As for Vos - I am curious why everyone seems to be so terrified of talking about em. Or very reluctant. The other Elder Gods don't have this same sort of fear factor related to talking about them (as they frankly don't care if anyone spoke about them), so what makes Vos so different? What are they also of, considering the other Elders were of form? Are they spirit, soul, or something far more terrifying?
      I do suspect some manner of link to exist between Vos and Xau-Tak. After all, Xau-tak goes by many names. Vos COULD well be the real name, and Xau-tak either an alias, or something others just call them. The reason I suspect that link to exist is that uttering the name Xau-Tak seems to invite the deity to play hopscots with your brain as it makes them aware you both exist, and know. Now question: Why is everyone who knows about Vos so reluctant to talk about them, to the point we don't even know if Vos is their name or not. Perhaps they are afraid of uttering the name for a similar reason, as Xau-Tak's name invites misfortune? It would be a case of say you Vos or Xau-Tak, you get the same end result and a head full of maddening nightmares as the void whispers to you.
      It's good to remember even Sliske of all beings got spooked upon hearing the name Xau-Tak during his inquisitor days, finding it creepy. I doubt many things could scare Sliske, either. Even if he was millennia younger at that point to when we deal with em in the sixth age.
      Vos also has a connection with both Erebus, and shadow anima, seeing as they appear to currently be in Erebus. But if Vos is our missing Elder, what are they doing in Erebus? Alive and well, might I add. Something isn't adding up here. Or perhaps it all makes sense and Xau-Tak and Vos are either one and the same, or share some link.
      If shadow anima is allergic to anima, then it would make no sense for the shadow leviathan (...which you know, we don't know what it even is) to grab Jas and pull her through to in essence irradiate their side. Felt more like whatever it was saw a tasty snack and wanted some Jas burger. This to me would look like shadow anima devours anima, and this side's Elders are one way weak to shadow anima rather than shadow anima being weak to the regular sort.
      Otherwise, the Codex would be an odd thing to need to seal up holes to the shadow-anima side, as why would shadow anima break through to this side if anima was its bane? The fact shadow anima also leaks through to this side rather than vise versa, and that the Elder Gods of Shadow anima aren't locking the wall down with their own version of the Codex (we just dumped an Elder God of anima through to their side after all: if they were weak to that stuff that's gonna not go over too well) in the interest of self-preservation.

    • @zeldapro18

      @@videocrowsnest5251 I think it's the opposite being that is allergic, like the shadow creatures would die in our world and the opposite. I think the shadow anima itself absorbs regular anima but not vice versa. The shadow leviathan are massive beings, some larger then planets. Sure a little tentacle dipped into harms way to get a great meal is worth it. Us with our World Guardian power was able to stay in Erebus a max of a minute or 2. And notice it stayed in Erebus and didn't come to own universe. I assume that either massive beings wouldn't immediately be disintegrated. They are beings of highly concentrated anima/shadow anima. Grab the being of light, which it is constantly in hunt for, and shut it's exit off. Seems they control the shadow breaches at will.

    Hey, I absolutely loved your video! You put a lot of research into this and it was fun to watch, I learned some stuff and I consider myself lore-crazy haha. Especially about Erebus and Xau-Tak, Vos, the Shadow Realm, etc. Hands down my favourite themes in the game. Important to note Erebus isn't reaaallllllyyy the Zarosian afterlife. It's just the place where the souls go. Azzanadra pushes the lies that it's the afterlife but nobody really knows why the souls go there or what happens to them. It's likely Zaros does. A cthonian demon knows this and says as much in some quest, can't remember which. Priests in the old Zarosian empire used to use Miasma jars to guide the spirits to Erebus, interestingly enough a spell used to exist called Miasma Barrage too - was supposed to be a fifth ancient element at the time. Also cool, you can talk to Death and he mentions that he vaguely remembers a "empire that extended beyond death" if you choose the option regarding Zarosian afterlife. I think you hit the nail on the head catching the 'well' references and pinning "spiral of time". I never even thought to connect that last one. Ambi pet says "There is a well of malevolence which is close to spilling over." among other very Xau-Takish phrases (even one in Dragonkin language not fully translated yet). Btw idk if you know what the island with the black statues and glowing head are yet (saw the tweet), but that's just an island with two turtle teleports and a maoi head you can talk to. It's part of Ports questline/area. Only thing I can't get behind is Xau-Tak being Zaros's Dad. That's hard for me to see lol, I get it by way of Xau-Tak corrupting Mah's egg, stunting her growth, her then needing to stay in her volcano hole, causing her to go mad and create Zaros and Seren out of lonliness...and then mayube bc of the corruption, they got "powers" from Xau-Tak that way. I gues sI just wouldn't say father but if that's what you mean I agree haha

    • @prideslayer77
      @prideslayer77  Před rokem

      YES! basically its more of a "caused zaros and seren than father" but for the sake of word salad i guess i used (father) but we are completely on the same page! well those heads are also in the shadow reef there is a miniboss who is one of those! and mod orions tweet says the guardians are all active and i also am gonna discuss some of the other ED1 lore with the mysterious lecturn i showed it talks about an obsidian palace and a shining palace which is interesting because with sliskes connection theyve began lore on a place called varlamore! I think you are generally correct. My own personal theory is, regarding necromancy, is 1 of 2 this. Either 1) Rasial learned necromancy through Xau-Tak but decided to oppose him or 2) learned necromancy through a different means from Xau-Tak and therefore opposes him. The reason I believe Rasial opposes Xau-Tak is his stated goal of reducing all life to 'nothingness' (thats how I understand his goal atleast, because by breaking the cycle of death you also break the cycle of life) and I think he does that because, well he is a (seemingly) undead necromancer so breaking life and death would be appealing to him, but it also seems like a desperate attempt at stopping the corruption of Xau-Tak from taking hold in Gielinor.
    Of course I know there is a chance that Rasial is also just another pawn of Xau-Tak, but so far his actions/goals of ending the cycle of death, taking control of 'Um' and the Well of Souls seems more like a counter measure to Xau-Tak IMO.
    You've earned yourself a new subscriber, idk how I've only now stumpled over your videos because I love RS (RS3 and OSRS) lore, I'm not going to claim it all to be a masterpiece but I've always thought the quests in runescape were brilliant.

      oooh very interesting i actually believe zaros is the one opposing xau tak, i think jas was lured into erebus to give xau tak a "vessel" because xau tak apparently knew of the player eons before we exist and i have some other interesting lore. zaros says "an offering for those who rule there" and i think it meant jas. he tasked sliske with imbuing the player with shadow anima and playing double agent zaros acts like he wasnt involved. but he is the god of fate.

    • @MoreGeneration
      @MoreGeneration Před rokem

      @@prideslayer77 I assumed Zaros went to Erebus because our elder gods rejected his attempt at becoming elder god and therefore he decided to go the shadow anima route, this may or may not conflict with Xau-Tak.
      On the topic of Zaros "an offering for those who rule there" you could be correct as gods, and especially elder gods probably don't live with the same time sense as mortals, so him saying it well before Jas was ever sucked into Erebus could just be because he is a god. Personally I don't believe Jas is dead, while shadow anima is anethema to the elder gods it would be strange if a mature elder god cannot resist it, its different from Mah as she was infected as an egg.

    So there will be a lot of info dumping and theory crafting here, I apologize for the book about to be written I tried to keep it short but its not possible. I dont think Xau Tak is a god of shadow anima, and ill explain why, but first we need to go back and answer questions many have asked and not realized were answered.
    How are the Elder Gods connected to this?
    Where Did the Elder Gods come from?
    Why did they destroy those realms?
    these two questions have been asked endlessly, but in the answering of them other questions will come up that we will work through.
    How are the elder gods connected to this? This one is simple, its due to a common over arching theme in Runescape, Balance. you in this video brought up multiple gods that work through shadow anima, and since the game revolves around Balance, The Elder Gods exist as a balancing act to those gods.
    Where did they come from? The opposite of where the Shadow Anima Gods came from.
    Why did they destroy those worlds/realms?
    I believe the Elder Gods created realms/worlds in areas of high anima as a way to protect these anima wells from being corrupted by Shadow Anima. They create these worlds as paradises, void of Shadow Anima, however and ill explain why later, Eventually Shadow Anima leaks into the world and corrupts it, This wakes The Elder Gods, who put all the Anima from the well and world into their eggs, and Destroy the world to stop the corruption, The Elder Gods then stay behind and die (Or become corrupted) sending their Eggs to start a new Cycle, always protecting the Anima Wells These eggs wake, use the anima to create a world, create their eggs, then go into slumber until Shadow Anima shows itself again causing it to repeat.
    So we have 2 Anima's, standard and shadow, Creation, and Destruction, Pure and Corrupt. When we create Runes, It is never on Gilenor that we make them, we are always transported to a new realm to create them, these realms are former or current anima wells that we use to make the runes. But now we need to get back into how we travel to other Realms as well as talk about the other gods.
    When we travel realms or even teleport we travel through the Abyss, The Abyss encompasses EVERYTHING, I believe the Shadow Anima comes from the Abyss but we will come back to that.
    one thing people seem to skip is if the elder gods are made in balance, what created them? Im not sure, however Through Mah I think we are given insight as to why the Elder Gods fear shadow anima. Mah is a elder god corrupted by shadow anima, and with that created Seren and Zaros, these two gods are key, as they for one are the only true gods created. All other gods are essentially Fake outside of Guthix which I will cover soon. Seren and Zaros are both Dark Gods, however that does not mean evil. Their connection to Mah gives them connections to both standard Anima and Shadow Anima. While Seren turned away from Shadow Anima, Zaros embraced it, learned from it, manipulated it, and taught it to his closest allies. This was Early in Zaro's life before his insight and wisdom grew.
    Zaros used shadow Anima to build an Empire, and in such doomed Gilenor by allowing a avenue for Shadow Anima to grow which would inevitably awaken the elder gods. However, Guthix delayed it, and he did so by using rituals, the same rituals Zamorak used in Infernus, Zamorak learned these from Guthix, but Guthix learned them from his accession (who got it by killing Skargaroth who may very well have been either a Elder God, or a Shadow Anima God who was fighting Tuska and weakened), Guthix used these rituals to banish all gods from the world, now here is the thing we learned, you can only banish those equal in power or weaker than you, this means Guthix was at least Equal to Seren and Zaros, and since all other gods we know of other than the Elder Gods (who were unaffected by his edicts) are minor gods who did not have access to these powers, Zamorak only gained some access to them by absorbing power from Zaros, were banished.
    Now in Isolation Zaros spent time with Mah, and entered her dreams. I think its here Zaros realized just how badly he had screwed things up. I think In Mah's dreams he Saw Xau Tak, not a Shadow Anima god, but in fact, the creator of Shadow Anima, and creator of the Shadow Anima Gods Hes not a Shadow Anima God, Hes THE Shadow Anima God. His power would be truly unimaginable and the destruction hes capable is even worse. This caused Zaros to contemplate how to fix this, And we see this on Zaro's return. Rather than be concerned of his former empire, or finishing the God Wars, he called all his allies and put them to work doing secret assignments, but we know it involved shadow anima from Sliske. We also see Zaros had a very high appreciation of Guthix after the fact I think its because Guthix may have lead him unintentially through Guthix's rituals to his next goal which we will cover later, and it was revealed later that after gaining the power to enter the Codex, that The World Guardian could no longer resist Zaro's influence and also could no longer influence Zaros, This is important because it means Zaros has ascended and even with the Edicts reestablished, they would not effect him.
    However during this time you will notice Zaros did very little, almost nothing to help with the elder god threat, Its because he knows Xau Tak is a much larger threat and while the gods strive for power none of them can help, he also knew between the World Guardian and the other gods, Namely his sister Seren, they would find a solution to that matter and it would only delay him from finding a solution for Xau Tak.
    Now how does this tie into Um the underworld. Um is different than any other realm, the only real way to enter it is to be an agent of death, or to die. its not like infernus where you can just go there. The runes we make for necromancy are made with shadow anima, and if you look some of those areas seem to have certain connections, all the idols seem to be corrupted by things we have seen in worlds corrupted by Shadow Anima, there are 4 of them, and i believe they are tied to the 4 other gods you mentioned. these gods do not serve Xau Tak per say, but were created by him to spread his Shadow Anima, Much like the creator of the Elder Gods created them to spread Anima. I believe the Abyss that we teleport through, and use for inter plane travel is Shadow Anima, and the worlds and realms are encompassed by it. I also believe Um, or the underworld, is Xau Tak's plane, it is Erebus, but much like Gilenor has multiple dimensions to its plane, Um is a plane to Xau Tak's realm, and Errebus being his residing realm.
    I believe this because again, the theme of Balance.
    Anima is the energy of creation, of life, and pure
    Shadow anima is the energy of destruction, death, and corruption. This also means if Xau Tak is the god of Shadow Anima, Who is the god of Anima and where are they or what happened to them? Perhaps thats what Zaros left to find out. I believe his intentions are if you can put an end to the expanding of Shadow Anima, you can create true balance.

    Zaros also went through the safer shadow breach but the more dangerous one later came to Freneskae to consume the elder eggs. Maybe Vos controls the breach on Gielinor and Xau-Tak controls the other.

    The shadow realm is more like a veil between the normal reality and Erebus. The deeper you delve the closer you come to Erebus and things like time and space stop having meaning and the denizens of Erebus like the shadow cracklers can wander over. I can’t help but wonder if the void that exists in the deepest part of the abyss has a connection to Erebus and by extension the pests that inhabit it From what I can remember they seem to have traits similar to Chitonian Demons that evolved from the denizens of Erebus.

    Kerapac and Jas are straight up dead. It was stated clearly in the quest that the only reason we could survive even a few minutes at a time in Erebus was because of the shadow anima grafted onto our soul by Guthix when he named us World Guardian. Everyone else could feel their life force being sucked away just by standing near the portal, similar to how we're the only one that could enter Raksha's prison because of the shadow anima present. Even Zaros needed special protection before entering Erebus through the Monolith.
    Kerapac had no such protection and Jas, being an Elder God, was particularly vulnerable to shadow anima. When the shadow leviathan dragged Jas into Erebus (and Jas dragged Kerapac with her), it was to them what being dragged into a vat of molten metal by a spear through the chest would be to a normal person. There's no way either of them are still alive.

      thats fair. however Rasial has expressed an interest in the codex and i can assume Necromancy can apply to a variety of things however i dont believe this is the purpose of it all.
      Xau Tak most likely needs a host to enter our world (imagine the molten metal analogy) so Zaros had through "Fate" and sliske giving the world guardian protection to lure Jas in to erebus and give Xau tak a new host or meat suit in the Anima Universe.
      i belive zaros to have originally been create from xau taks corruption of mahs egg to be his vessel but this trade would give zaros the leverage he needed to obtain more power.
      thanks for the awesome comment! i really am enjoying the awesome discussions!

    I've been saying since azzanadra's quest dropped that Xau-Tak is the 6th elder god that zaros refers to in The Light Within. There are too many connections for me to think otherwise. The only argument I can really find against it is Vos whose voice could be heard through the monolith being the 6th elder god but residing in Erebos, but I believe that Erebos is its own independent universe that is connected to this one and Vos is just one of the elder gods of that universe (assuming it follows the same pantheon structure as this one.) I think that all of the names of the elder gods are derived from an extinct language that was lost in one of the revisions but stuck because of how the elder gods transfer their memories into their eggs and that Xau-Tak has some special meaning in the old tongue (probably something simple like evil god.) After all, the only being to survive the last revision were the dragonkin, the elder gods, and Xau-Tak that I'm aware of and the dragonkin did it by hiding in the abyss, so presumably Xau-Tak went to Erebos to chill with Vos.
    Is there lore I've overlooked or just flat out missed entirely that disproves everything I think about this? Eh probably.

    • @prideslayer77
      @prideslayer77  Před rokem

      on god. thats almost exactly my opinion, i think the sixth elder god is a god of Anima, a god of light a god "of something else"
      Xau Tak is one of the last Shadow Elders of Erebus, and instead of laying an egg it needs a host, i believe zaros is his host because if elders are allergic to shadow anima Xau Tak couldnt stand Anima, Explaining why it seeks to destroy all life.
      Zaros most likely Lured Jas in as a fair trade to Xau Tak. A new host. For power.
      Xau Tak in my opinion is the name for the Single entity, and it stands for "Evil Song"
      Vos is a chord in this song just like tezcasathla etc and each one is harmony that accompanies "xau Tak"
      i think they are individuals until they are completely absorbed into the hive mind. i am gonna do a video on the shadow reef soon and just read the lore books and speculate

So many of these long lasting video games have amazing stories and I feel like a lot is being left on the table by not taking advantage of their greatest asset, stories. Just for the love of god don't have it produced or directed by people that think they are better than the source material...

      @@prideslayer77 Exactly, there is unfortunately such a disconnect between the story we get in game we can play through with quests and such, and the incredible in depth lore behind the scenes. One of the best examples I can think of is Destiny 2. I've been playing it for so long and follow a lot of lore CZcamsrs, and it's incredible the stories I would have missed had I not followed them. These stories (done right) could easily rival franchises out there.
      While I appreciate CZcamsrs like yourself who provide us with these untold stories in games, it would be nice if we didn't have to go outside the game to experience them.

      great question! i'm working on a shadow reef lore video and i am gonna speculate some on it as well but, i belive Xau Tak is somewhat of a hive mind, able to infect conciousness as shown from raksha, ambassador etc, so i think VOS could be two things...
      Xau Tak and using a different Name (only a few actually call it Xau Tak)
      OR
      Vos is another shadow elder god like Xau Tak as Zaros says "an offering for those who Rule there" instead of saying "the one who rules there"

    I have my own crackpot theories about Xau-Tak.
    I think it is a mistake to think of Xau-Tak as a deity comparable to Saradomin, Zaros, or even the Elder Gods. I believe Xau-Tak is something else entirely: a necrotic hivemind of souls.
    The Elder Gods care little for mortal life; they do not feed on the anima of living beings. In fact it is hinted that souls gradually accumulate a taint (e.g. Himiko's Vision). So where do these souls go after each Great Revision? Into the abyss?
    Perhaps over time this sea of angry souls, this 'silent choir', would accumulate a sense of sentience? An urge to destroy the very beings that condemned their worlds in the past? Xau-Tak IS a literal ocean of souls seeking vengeance against the Elder Gods for their endless cycle of hunger and destruction.
