There's absolutely no downside to you or your kids learning their native language whether twi, ga, ewe, dagbani or other languages. It MAY (emphasis on the may) actually make them feel isolated from Ghanaians when they grow up. They also might resent the parent for not teaching them. This not a good thing at all in my opinion but to each their own I guess 🤷🏿‍♂️

I meet a lot of people in Europe with African parents who now wish they were more connected to their roots but they feel lost. Most of them don’t feel fully accepted by the Europeans even if they were born there .
It’s only our people who have this mentality, I’ve never met a German, French, Chinese (whatever) living in another country who will say they won’t speak their language with their kids . It’s not something to be proud of in my opinion

    • @The-Neutral

Some of them are abroad ask them the fun places in that city they don't know, they give birth to their children there but they will never take them to Chuckie cheese, sesame park, dorney, and Disney, all they know is building 2,3,4 houses in Ghana at the expense of their children happiness so when they see your children happy because you make life fun for them then they will start asking, do you have a house in Ghana if you say No then know that you going to be the topic for discussion, and if you say I have one they will tell you one is not enough, why? don't you have family back home who are living in there so you have to build another,so most of our children are miserable like ourselves and jealous like their parents, sometimes even when I take my children to fun places I have to warn them not discuss it with their cousins at church because their moms will start gossiping, that all she knows (won bo bra) even when I go to the salon someone intentionally come and ask you how much you spent ,woe onto you if you tell them the price, hmmmmm ,one thing they don't realize is that not every one comes from a poor family in Ghana is not everyone who is desperate, some of us just want to be happy and enjoy life, and the little we can we do.God is also Blessing me.and very content I don't need 5 houses to prove anything to anybody.

In my opinion there's no way I will give my children to nursery and return back to work in 3 months in abroad. There's more to life than chasing money. I remember working 8am-10pm every day until I realised my son knows his nanny more than me and paying expensive nursery fees using the same money, that's when I said never again. Not to be rude but she looks older than 36 and I believe it all down to running around and having so many children within short spaces of time. Our body needs to recover as women.
I have met some Amazing Ghanaians in UK, same as worse ones. Sometimes it get lonely and you need your little community to be by your side. I remember when my mum died, although I live in all white community, my Ghanaian folks drove almost 3 hours to come and see me.

My cousin and her family live in Austria. All the four children were born in Austria and the kids were taught and speak impeccable Fante. Thus, they feel at home when they come down for holidays. There are some Ghanaian children born and living in Ghana who can only speak English. We shouldn't make mistakes that we may regret in future. As our children grow their perspective about life changes and they would wish their parents had taught them their native language.

Being able to speak many languages is an advantage, and it opens doors. Her kids might, one day, may blame her for denying them the chance to learn other languages. And it's easier when learned at a younger age. She should not allow her emotions to make her deny her kids the chance to learn. Some white people are learning twi and other African dialects. Imagine your kid getting an international appointment in ghana and not being able to relate to his people. And for their own safety, it's better to understand twi so that they can listen to what's going on around them.

My major concern is her failure to teach the kids their mother tongue. These kids are innocent of what she has gone through.
