- Kero Kero Bonito's theme song for Bugsnax is wonderful and iconic... and when we first heard it, we didn't even realize that it was actually revealing the entire plot of the game.
Thanks SO MUCH for giving this little video essay any attention at all. I worked so hard on it. I realize that the audience for this video is HILARIOUSLY small, but if you're a massive Bugsnax fan like I am, I really hope you enjoy it. Let me know in the comments!

Another thing is the seemingly throwaway line "Everyone's talkin' 'bout Bugsnax" as the song draws to a close. It's explained in game that the island addicts its victims to the Bugsnax and hooks them onto the parasite even if they don't want to consume them; it's the only thing they can think about it. In other words: Everyone's talking about Bugsnax.
What a great catch!
its even heavily implied that the reason why Bugsnax mess with crops is because they dont want people on the island to have access to any other food. Hunger will inevitably lead to the consumption of one parasite, and even if you wanna stay clean of them, after a while hunger will be so massive you will not stop thinking about them.
Theres also the line "a Tasty quest to fill the hole that many feel inside Thier Soul" tells you that you need help the Grumpuses with Thier issues so they don't quite literally eat themselves to death.
@@Geomaster97 I love how the song directly states that, on Snaktooth, they went looking for a way to improve their life, but instead they found a way to fill that same hole with something else.

I didn't realize it was foreshadowing until someone told me, because I am very dumb.
I love this type of foreshadowing where it’s so obvious after the secret is revealed. But it was placed so well you didn’t notice until it was almost too late. It’s like how Doki Doki means a heartbeat increase of fear in ddlc.

Doki-doki isn't really connected to fear; it's just the onomatopoeia for a heartbeat, like how America has pitter-patter and ba-thump and the like. Using doki-doki as an adjective (ie "my heart is all _'doki-doki'!")_ is a poetic way of saying you're nervous, excited, or otherwise riled up, just like if you said "my heart's all a-flutter!" or "my heart is pounding!'

Can we talk about how we're literally starving to death over the course of the game because we can't eat bugsnax but there's no other food on the island?
I think you can choose a dialogue option near the end of the game when interviewing Eggabell that you have been surviving on sauce when she's shocked to hear you are allergic to bugsnax. Not exactly nourishing but, it's something.

you'd be shocked how calorically dense peanut butter is tbh, it might not be the healthiest thing but you won't die of starvation. though you will likely suffer a number of vitamin deficiencies. you might not starve but you will probably contract scurvy.
You're character eats Sauce like Shelda and Gramble, it's not revealed until you interview Eggabell in the update, after beating her quest but before entering the final act, wherein you can't catch/feed others Bugsnax anymore

We could even say that the "Oh-oo-oh! It's Bugsnax" is the singing version to our realisation of "Uh-oh, it's Bugsnax!"
i like that "we are what we eat" is completely iteral, but at the same time a double, if not triple meaning. yes, you transform into the food, but it goes both ways in that the bugsnax are eating the grumpuses right back, turning them into more bugsnax. so the line could be from their perspective. and THEN, as paulrecall said, there's the themes of cannibalism, both directly and indirectly

I think they meant the whole island is bugsnaks (the place undersnaks)
I’m not sure if this line is intentional, but I also think “We are whatever we eat” could be a spoiler.
It’s a very fitting pun on their transformative properties, but it could also be in reference to their origins.
We learn that the Bugsnax are made up from Grumpuses that became consumed, so in a way, Bugsnax are Grumpuses.
We are Grumpuses, and we eat Grumpuses.
That feels like the most deliberate part
Well, bugsnax are parasites so it's more so a reference into the host slowly turning into bugsnax themselves
I guess we _are_ whatever we eat.

I was sick this past weekend and it was added to Gamepass relatively recently so I was like: why not? I remember it being bright, colorful and intriguing, so I'll play through the story.
I ended up 100%ing it in about 3-4 days and I'm obsessed!

Yeah, same. Wasn't expecting much really, then got hooked, played for 3-4 days consecutively and got 100% (platinum trophy) on Ps5. Fed all Grumpuses to the maximum, caught every existing bugsnax for Gramble (including the Cappucceetle and all bosses), got all hats, done all side quests, finished the DLC, and I regret NOTHING.

I love how the picture even spoils it in a cute way.
The hat to give the overall strawberry shape, the blush and freckles are analogs for the red strawberry flesh and seeds. Even the shoulder length hair looks like the leaf legs of the Strabby. It's great.

Actually, it went from its to it's. "Its" is the possessive of "it," while "it's" is a contraction of "it is." Apostrophes are almost exclusively used for contractions; the only exceptions are when they're tailing proper nouns (usually people), which morphs both parts into a single possessive. Your comment basically just repeated the same phrase twice, with one being contracted and the other not.

A great aspect of that last line is, if you're just listening without reading, there's a bit of ambiguity there.
You could read it as:
"Come to Snaktooth Island and discover. It's Bugsnax!"
And it sounds like it's talking about the game itself.
You could also read it as:
"Come to Snaktooth Island and discover its Bugsnax!"
With this interpretation, you're discovering the Bugsnax that live on the island.
But then you learn the twist:
"Come to Snaktooth Island and discover, it's Bugsnax!"
As in, the island is composed of Bugsnax.

IM OBSESSED WITH KKB!!!!! Ever since I learned about this game and heard it’s theme song I’ve been obsessed with them, they’re genuinely one of the only groups that I keep coming back to. There were periods of time during the pandemic where I played nothing but their music. Unfortunately since around I think 2021 they have been taking a break. Sarah Bonito(the main singer) was a solo artist for a bit called Cryalot, her solo music is pretty sick, it has a lot of metal influence. Since then, from what I know she’s been pursuing a DJ career which is pretty awesome too. When they first announced their break, I’m pretty certain that they made it certain that they weren’t breaking up, so hopefully we see them make amazing music again someday.

i love this kind of foreshadowing, when in the start they told you everything, but its so vague that we dont understand. for example, in the anime pluto, the instro show you every major event that is going to happen, but its only images that pass too fast, so you cant understand what they mean, but the more you watch, the more sense they have and in the end everything comes in place. its amazing.
Vargskelethor takes the theme one step further with their goofy metal cover version “Bloodsnax”. There’s an extra verse at the end of the song that’s a little more on the nose about Bugsnax and it’s hilarious and over the top lmao
Finally, it took someone this long to realize it.
I've always wondered why the title said It’s Bugsnax instead of It Bugsnax but now that grammar makes so much more sense to me, I had listened to the song before playing the game actually, and it did help me come up with theories a lot easier!
I honestly thought EVERYONE in the village would turn into Bugsnax and you'd have to leave, knowing it was too late to save them. Or at the very least have a few people vanish and be replaced by Bugsnax that look suspiciously like them.

The story of the game is so dark, if the game stayed the same but with humans and realistic graphics it would be a horror game
I thought they were speaking a different language at first lol
I knew it was a horror game from the trailer. I played it and it turned out it actually 100% legit WAS a horror game.
I wonder, given that they say that the people on Snaktooth Island are looking to 'fill a hole in their soul' and they each have some type of emotional issue, whether it be from self-esteem or their interpersonal relations, if that's what the bugsnax prey upon.
And if the player doesn't have the same type of issues, in that they have a clear and distinct purpose for having come to the island (finding out about the bugsnax and what happened to Lizbert) and are pursuing that purpose near single-mindedly, and that's why they aren't affected by the bugsnax and become sick upon trying to eat one, because the bugsnax has nothing it can prey upon, no hole that it can try to fill.
