When released, the original Cavalli Liquid Gold was priced at $6450. It eventually came down a few thousand, but was worth every penny. Still the best SS amp I've ever heard.
Also the circuit protection initialization sequence takes like 5-6 minutes. No joke.

knobs are serious business. I built a numpad with a knob to go with my custom 68 key keyboard. I ordered a bunch of different rotary encoders and knobs from china and the one I kept was a solit aluminium knob, made the feel so much better
I have an original liquid gold. Gain switch does pop. Never used it until this video. Amp is deafeningly loud on low gain with any set of cans I have thrown at it - low sensitivity to high sensitivity.
I love that the KPH30i scale. Listening to this review with them wondering if I even need the HD58X.
This amp was designed to be used with the balanced output. The SE output is there just for convenience.

Looks like a huge liquid spark which is an amazing amp. Yeah I know it doesn't beat Schiit or JDS but it's still really good with the best build quality. I'm a happy owner of all 3. I can't get rid of any of them.
Should make a cheaper version without the DAC. The lack off analog outs makes this unusable for me.
I wonder how this would compare with a sennheiser hdv820, just comparing them as amps, not as dacs

Serious flaw with both this and the monolith dac amp. No balanced out means the good dacs are wasted cause you cant drive another amp. At least on the gold the balanced ins arent digitized first.

I have confirmed that this whole "audiophile" thing is an enthusiast thing or a "hobby". A lot of the reviews are just to promote "new" gadgets/devices and its more about hype than anything else. After a certain price point I don't think any of these reviewers can truly justify if some device is "better" than another. I mean didn't we just say that Topping A90 was the "best" just a couple months ago? LOL...funny shit. I have stopped caring.
I'm with you.... I have an old gaming Astro mixamp, HD598's and want to jump in with something substantial. It is a massive headache trying to sift through everyone's reviews ranging from Topping to JDS to SMSL to SCHIIT to IFI..... they all say something is the best, and then a month later something is even better. Cheaper equipment they say is incredible, but then they take a dump on it whenever they review something more expensive. This landscape seems to move even faster than computer parts, had no idea. Sheesh.
Yep, it's all hype and most reviewers never even bother to quantify their VERY subjective opinions. Willful ignorance of any kind of audio science is all too welcome with audiophiles. Sadly, most audiophile reviewers rely on affiliate links as a large chunk of income, so it does them no good to say a product is bad.

The Ifi Zen Dac is a good recommendation. If you don't mind 2 components, the little JDS labs atom stack or Schiit audio modi/magni combo are also worth thinking about. Try not to go too crazy making a decision; it's hard to really go wrong currently
I got the Zen DAC, now waiting for my HE400i ver 2020 , looking forward to it.
I have the Zen Dac with HE-400i’s. It sounds great. Definitely a safe bet. (Also, it has USB 3.0 but it works fine on USB 2) I’m getting a linear power supply for it from aliexpress too, curious what it’ll do for it.

This guy LITERALLY bought a house by selling placebo. I don't blame him, companies have made millions selling placebo in the world of "high end audio". So I don't mind seeing someone taking a slice of it and playing along.
I'm not saying these high $ equipment isn't good or as good as the lowest priced equipment but there is a threshold. A point of diminishing returns. In audio, you can reach that point REALLY REALLY quickly with very affordable gear. After which it's mostly just placebo you're paying thousands more for.
