  • Disney needs a strategy to separate itself from Universal Studios. A Disney park in Texas could be the perfect solution.
    Disney has announced massive capital expenditure (CAPEX) increases for 2023. This should help them improve and expand current parks, but with Universal Studios currently under construction for its new Epic Universe Park that will narrow the gap between Universal and Disney.

    Universal just beat Disney to the Lone Star state! I bet Disney will start looking for land in Texas now that Universal is building a kids family park in DFW!

    There is a small group currently trying to build a small theme park (TexasLand) in Houston. The problem with Houston is it's isolated at the far southeast corner of Texas right along the border with Louisiana off of I-10 which leads eastward to Florida where Disney World lies.
    Since Universal Studios is already building a kids only theme park in Frisco (DFW area), San Antonio would be a nice place for Disney to build a major theme park. Only problem with San Antonio is it already has both SeaWorld and Six Flags theme parks.
    The other best location would definitely be down in deep South Texas in the Rio Grande Valley. Yes, it's the most southern tip of Texas but it lies right along the southern border to Mexico and some of their bigger cities like Monterrey, Matamoros and Reynosa (each has over a million residents living in each Mexican city), plus tens of millions of Mexicans would easily flock to visit Disneyland Texas if it were built in the Rio Grande Valley since they already flock every year to the Valley to shop and even entertain themselves by visiting South Padre Island, the Schlitterbahn water theme park next to the beach, plus other amenities already available, including Elon Musk's rocket ship platform StarBase. There are also 3 major airports throughout the Rio Grande Valley, and every year there are millions of visitors (winter tourists, Spring Breakers and Mexican tourists) that come to deep South Texas. Plus, there is lots of empty farmland throughout where Disney could easily best decide where to build. The Rio Grande Valley is definitely a pristine location for Disney if they were serious about building in Texas.

      You make some great points, and wherever Disney chose to build would grow. For that matter, the area around Orlando was largely farmland before Disney bought it up, and the city largely grew because of Disney.

    Imma sounds like a meteorologist here.... In January of last year, the whole state of Texas, my next home state, had deep freeze warnings, blizzard warnings, all from a winter storm and hundreds of people died from the power being out for weeks. Then there were all those burst pipes. So, although rare, it does snow in Texas

    Are you insane, Texas is too close to Florida, plus that ship has already sailed; Disney and Universal will no longer build in the United States. Both parks have too much pull, thus they are on opposite ends of the country.

    • @StrategyExplained
      @StrategyExplained  Před rokem

      Thanks for watching! Disney parks are filled to capacity, so I'd still argue they could make more money by expanding capacity, and they can only expand so far in CA and FL.

      I'm curious to hear your thoughts on that. When a company has more demand than it can currently meet, even with rising prices, it's a good idea to expand services.

      @@StrategyExplained he's right, Disney would never build a park in Texas because Texans wouldn't allow it IMO. Just look at all the hate Disney has gotten in the past 2 years involving itself in politics. I'm pretty sure there would be riots before they let Disney get the first draft of a proposal into court rooms and then it would get denied. Especially considering if they wanted a private self sustaining government like in Florida.
