    That final segment was fantastic. The selfish desire to let your opinions not be challenged is a great way of wording it. Sometimes you experience something that means the world to you, and that’s enough. You have so many thoughts on them, but it’s enough to simply let those feelings manifest in who you are, and otherwise stay a personal thing in your brain. You’re right that that’s how it used to be… You could experience the most deep, profound piece of art ever made, and it would be “yours.” You’d have so many feelings and they’d just be in your head, maybe at most you’d share them with your friend group. There’s something almost romantic about that, even tho there’s definitely value in sharing those feelings with a greater audience as well. But it’s nice to not have to worry about having the “correct” feelings, or turning all of your thoughts into Content. That’s why I love how hands-off TGB has been recently, as far as just making videos and otherwise just living his life. Seems like the healthiest way to be an internet person.

    Keeping thoughts and ideas to yourself can sometimes be one of the harder things to do for most people but I like the idea of it. When we reveal all our inner thoughts to the public it can lead to the judgment of the public affecting you in unforeseen ways. I say leave a bit of mystery to a few things, it's nice to have a few secrets after all.

    Also gotta say the last mins of the vid spoke to me. I think in this age hot takes and dunks, it can almost be humiliating to talk passionately about things you enjoy for fear of not having the right opinion or not adding enough to the conversation.
    Maintaining private relationships with media you enjoy is a necessary and healthy habit to get into.

    A star fox-like game would fit bebop so well, with its rise in popularity recently it could very well happen at some point. Either way glad to see you’re back, whatever you make it’ll likely still be just as great. You’ll have an audience no matter what and you’ll have detractors no matter what, I hope whatever you choose is what you think is best and fulfills you most!

Fascinating breakdown of an obscure game. Let's be real, "the Bebop crew gets pulled into another dimension that's exactly like the cheesy movie they were watching just prior" is honestly not that far off for a Bebop episode plot. The show had terrorists trying to de-evolve humans with a virus, a rotten forgotten leftover lunch that nearly killed the entire crew, a serial killer cyborg clown with the mind of a child, and a some kind of Nirvana analogue hiding inside of hyperspace tunnels.

    One of the main reasons for making the show was to market the spaceships as Bandai (Gundam) loves to sell toys. So this space shooter on release makes perfect sense on paper. The 2 manga and the PS2 game also suck so Bebop is indeed a 26 ep and a movie wonder. And it was never remade...

    In the context of the show I understand these last words of the video. Cowboy Bebop is without a doubt my favorite show of all time and I also think it's one of the best of all time, both for a lot of reasons, some from the heart, making it my favorite, some from the head, making it good. And this show burned itself deep into the former, it would feel somewhat self-revealing talking about it online as a whole and only talking about the latter half wouldn't make it justice. Although the characters in the show itself have a side to them they share with others and another that breaks out from time to time, mostly when they feel safe or can't hide it anymore, like in the final episode, so this might be fitting after all.
    I don't even like watching the show with someone else, this also would feel out of place in this case, this isn't for a group to watch with popcorn and softdrinks in hand. So even it that isn't your reason, I see a reason for not sharing your thoughts about Cowboy Bebop online, the connection to some art feels intimate, even if it's technically public, maybe so we can fool ourselfs that it isn't, that it's a treasure just for us and shattering this supposed illusion too much may shift the balance from heart to head too much...

  • @601JT
    @601JT Před 6 měsíci +2

    One of the many things I love about cowboy bebop that I don’t think gets as much praise is its setting. That nearly hard scifi lived world that feels tangible. It’s got great world building that it lets its visuals allude to more than directly stating (although if it’s important to the plot of the ep it’s Jet’s job to explain it) It’s wild to me that this game ignores that for something more generic.

  • @GELTONZ
    @GELTONZ Před 6 měsíci +1

    Finding out when this released compared to the show makes a LOT of sense. When I first bought this game, I was disappointed because it was so NOT Bebop. But then when I revisited it in my quest to play every Rail Shooter, I discovered the game is REALLY good in places. Namely the phenomenal weapon balance that doesn't devolve into missile spam and has me juggling 3 weapons at once. The camera is a disaster though and it's weird that it supports Dual Shock rumble but not analog controls.
    Also if you don't actually physically own it, you're missing out because the case actually opens up into a panorama on the inside. One of the best game cases I've ever seen. That said there's a cheaper Greatest Hits version that's the same game minus the cool case. Price definitely jumped though as it was $30 when I got mine. Also...can I just say "adjusting for inflation" always seems iffy, especially on videogames. This would have been a standard priced game, so $50 at the time.
    Either way, cool to see someone else enjoy this game. Also, yeah, the lack of gimmicks is one of the greatest strengths here. Astro Trooper Vanark is a FAR better looking and more polished rail shooter, but the sheer amount of gimmicks makes it so there are only 2 stages I actually wanna replay.

    I hadn't really considered the idea of not expressing your thoughts on certain media because it might be too personal or more fulfilling to keep it yourself. In this era of video essays and analysis of all sorts of media it would seem like the go-to route would be to talk about the stuff most personal to you because those are the things you would have the most unique stuff to say about and thus attract the most eyes to your videos/writing. But maybe sometimes it's better not to. Not everything about yourself needs to be perceived by others. It's an interesting thought to think about.

    This game looked interesting. I feel like they'd had the time to put in more, it could've been fascinating. Maybe something akin to a disable/capture vs kill setup for each of the main targets. I.e. use weaker weapons or a specific alternate weapon to capture the enemy and use your big weapons to kill them. You could also branch the story based on how you handled those previous bounties (i.e. you get more information out of them if you capture them, but it's not a game ender if you end up killing them all)

    I don't care for Cowboy Bebop myself, I think it's a good show and fantastic introduction to anime because it's something more general audiences can really get behind due to grungy blue-collar sci-fi existing for some time and being fairly popular. But I'm just not that into it. That's just something that happens when you've seen far too much anime, and when your tastes lie elsewhere to begin with. That said, if you're reading this, I'd love to see a video about the show and everything you enjoy and think about it if you could get around the blocks. I really only don't wanna hear people talk about stuff they like if I flat out don't like it, otherwise it doesn't matter to me if I don't think some things were as deep as you do.

      There's a handful, they're just relatively obscure. You've got Philosoma (though it's only a 3D scrolling shooter like Star Fox _some_ of the time), Total Eclipse, Solar Eclipse, Viper, Novastorm, Space Debris, and Hard Boiled (though these didn't need localizing), Galaga: Destination Earth (changes perspective like Philosoma _and_ western made again), Omega Boost (not strictly "on rails" like Star Fox but definitely in the ballpark), and Jupiter Strike.

      Videos on Rift Apart aren't happening here. Brit has said that he finds the modern direction of Ratchet games makes them no longer made for him and he has no interest in chasing after and dunking on something he knows he wouldn't have liked and feel like the Grinch for doing it. Brit has also said he feels his prior videos have outlined what he likes and doesn't like about Ratchet and Clank as a series well enough to give people an indication as to what his opinion on Rift Apart and anything beyond it would be.

    Anime games are pretty interesting. You have some of the most influential and best pre-Arkham licensed games, but they weren’t released in the west. You also have some of the worst games of all time like the NES Kinnikuman and Fist of the North Star games, that no one over here knows about.

    • @TheGamingBritShow
      @TheGamingBritShow  Před 6 měsíci +7

      @@devilmaycrysarockingdontcome Yeah I looked into that, the release dates for it are confusing though. The main wikipedia page (without a source) claims that that manga started 7 months before the first anime broadcast. The only section with a source says that the first volume was released a month after the anime started. Now It's possible the manga chapters were being serialised starting 7 months before the anime started airing.
      Either way that manga doesn't follow the story of the show, and has completely different art style, even the Ed in it has a different gender apparently. The game (despite its alternative dimension portal) is still a more real direct tie-in to the show, so while I considered it, I decided not to bring up the mangas floating around out there.

      @@TheGamingBritShow yeah after looking into it a little more the manga is pretty different and seems to only vaguely resemble the anime, and the anime doesn't appear to be based on it.
      The timeline and relationship between the manga and anime seems strange. The game is also definitely based on the anime so it must have been developed pretty quickly.

      @@devilmaycrysarockingdontcome Yeah Bebop isn't based on any manga. Much like this game the manga is probably another piece of promotional material made alongside the anime's production but with an entirely different direction.

    Sure, you can hold opinions for yourself. God knows you've been blasted by revealing some of your personal takes in the past. But if you want the opinion of a long-time fan, I think it's all about style.
    You have developed a particular style with your videos and the content you cover. At some point it was about action games, then it expanded to games in general, and then you shrank it down again to games that you really care about. Remember that old, kinda negative Order 1886 review? As a fan I wouldn't want you to talk about boring, gray cinematic movie-games anymore, not because you can't say anything worthwhile, but because it isn't your style to talk about them. You didn't get into the nitty gritty, below the surface of the contents within to uncover some new perspective I've never thought about.
    Now look at the Travis Strikes Back review, and the vibe is totally different. It feels like you're really trying to put complex feelings and emotions about your experience with the game into words. Something that not everyone is going to get, feelings about the medium of video games that go over the head of people that simply "doesn't get it" or aren't dorky enough to care about Suda 51 and his old Xbox 360 games. I love that about your best reviews, you really do care about this stuff and you have interesting things to say about it. If you think an anime is important to you, and you have a classic Brit take or interpretation, I'd love to hear it. You really are a critic in that sense, you experience art fairly and honestly. If you think you've got something to say about Bebop beyond "Music good" or "Characters cool" (I know you do) then go for it!

    It’s always amusing how the west praise this show but here in Japan is barely a footprint in sand lol. 😂 like Brit mentioned. It just never took off here. Most peeps found it boring and kind generic.

    • @TheGamingBritShow
      @TheGamingBritShow  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I think the notion that Bebop wasn't popular in Japan is somewhat exaggerated. It wasn't a cultural phenomenon there like Evangelion but it's still well regarded, and a theatrical movie was put into production before it took off in the west. We hold it in such high regard in the West though, it probably eclipses its cultural footprint in Japan.
