Later I worked at a school age childcare where I was the "cool" one when the Scholastic book fair rolled around since I could help the kids with their origami books.
Another time the 4th graders were working on compound words and one of our jokesters said Origami was a word. Really? Use it in a sentence. Kid: I like candy like chocolate bars origami bear! Fun times!

I wish someone would look into the history of origami. I'm Chinese and I've been taught since childhood that origami originated in China and that Japan only inherited and expanded on it. However, in most other sources that I've found, origami as an art form was cited as having its origin in Japan. I've found no real scholarly studies prodding into this matter, or maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.

You've got to know when to hold 'em
    Know when to fold 'em
    Know when to walk away
    And know when to run

Always thought Origami was art, but it’s almost like a physical extension of fractals. Very cool how it relates to mathematics and engineering.

Is this stuff used in disaster zones or poorer nations? Fold up lamp, building materials for temporary shelter, water capture?
