My whole life of fishing, I've never had a fight quite like the permit. Caught my first perm about 7 miles off, pass crabs over wreck about May last year. Blows my mind how hard they fought on a 4000. Thanks for the video Blair

Hello Blair! I cannot tell you how many times I have watched and re-watched your videos over the years. I cannot believe you caught two huge kingfish that big in Boca Grande Pass and on fluorocarbon! I fished Boca Grande Pass this summer and hooked into an albino tarpon. I have the video on my channel if you would like to take a look it. I cannot wait for the new episodes in season 14 to begin! I was just there yesterday and boated my first Tarpon!
Both those Permits were big but the second must have been an hour long battle.. Beast mode... Reminds me of a time hooking something that broke my rod on the set it was so big in the ICW of Venice Florida. Fought that fish for 30-45 minutes and I didn't know what it was. It was a 30 pound Jack that was probably the best catch of my life. Will never forget.

Nice episode. Is there a difference between the offshore series and big game series? I see your rods have split grips but on the website I only see a full length grip. I ended up getting the 7'6" offshore

I would go with the 7'6" Flats Blue offshore spinning rod for the 8000 series Sabalos reel, not the 8' inshore rod.

How can you tell the difference between a Jack Crevalle and a Permit? What awesomely huge fish.
GoMiGman Jacks usually have yellow fins and elongated. Permit are more shiny, round and big eyes.

Hey blair I fish in the indian river and im looking for a new setup, I mainly catch around 21-25 inch redfish and around 17-22 inch trout and occationally a snook ( which are normally small), what size rod and reel should I get and what brand? Is it really 65ft deep in that inlet?? I checked the nautical charts and max is like 40 or so, but those are not always 100 right.

Amazing the bend on those skinny blue rods but I guess Blaire likes a lot of flex like that to feel the fight a lot more. I don't know, I'm gonna get one just to see what that's like but I'm guessing my taste is a bit stiffer and less bend than that. Wow those things are thin. Still, gotta get me one or sure!
GoMiGman I have the Loomis Pro Blue rod, and it is skinny, but a ridiculous amount of backbone. High modulus. Light, thin and every bit as strong as a fat rod. Much more fun to fish.
