I think it matters. My parents started saving 10 years prior to my bachelors (we needed to pay for me to get in, and we paid a sum that they made in two years). And I think it was really worth it

Wouldn't use dropouts as an example as those are types of anecdotes and don't reflect every person who doesn't go to school although you're right. You just need passion and determination to be able to seek the knowledge yourself and not through a university.
