  • Peters Canyon Regional Park in Orange County California is a great place for people that like to go hiking, jogging and even horseback riding.
It’s absolutely not a good place for people that like to ride mountain bikes. Back in the late 90’s this was a really fun place to ride. Fun punchy hill climbs and fast short steep drops. It was a local spot we would ride after work that was fun, fast and challenging.
Today riding Peters Canyon is more like riding the bike trail down by the beach. You literally have to watch out for people waking their dogs, their kids, joggers and of course hikers.
Check out this video and see for yourself just how crazy busy this 354 acre public park has become. With all the awesome mountain bike trails in the orange county area there is absolutely no reason to ever ride Peters Canyon ever again.

I used to live across the street in the condos. Would go all the time in the mid 2000s and it was always dead and you’d only see a couple people and a few bikes, perfect for a couple hours. Get a good workout going up the hills with some decent fast downhills. All the vids I’ve seen recently in the last couple years it is PACKED with people just standing all over the place. That trail you mentioned with the trees was the best part of peters canyon. Crazy thick trees, no fence. Was just spooky cool going thru.

I broke my ankle at Peter’s Canyon in 2018. There’s a downhill slope that’s rocky and very dangerous where I fell. I don’t know if it’s been fixed but it’s a public safety concern

Looks like it was a fire road only...

Which trails in OC do you recommend for beginners?

The best beginner trail in the OC is The Fullerton Loop.
Great trail for all skill levels.
      I’m going there tomorrow afternoon!

There was a fire there a few years ago. I hiked it afterwards and all the trees were burnt to a crisp. Were you there on a weekend? That was a lot of people! I agree, that does not look like a good place for bikers - too many people who have no clue what to do when a bike is coming. Get over to the right, people!!

I went there on a Thursday and then again on Monday, it’s too busy of a place for a mountain bike

Was there last weekend to MTB with a buddy. Awful place. No plans to ever return.
