Monfils' loss against Djokovic was even worse than it looked : he was on a 12 win-streak, and 0-16 against Djokovic ; it was the perfect match to keep the win streak alive and finally beat Djokovic. In the second set, he was barely hanging on during the whole set, saving break point after break point, and finally managed to get a few match points.

I don't think a lot of newer Fed fans realize that Rome 2006 is the right answer for Federer. This was his only 5 setter against Nadal on clay ever and one of the biggest sources of his mental block against Nadal. If he converted one of those match points, he would've had much more confidence against Nadal in future matches, probably a better h2h, more clay titles, and more GS titles overall. Not to mention, his ridiculous 2006 record would've been even better.

@@SJ-di5zu yeah I agree with you. And yes probably RG 2013 is right there. I just think RG 2015 is a bit more upsetting because after defeating Nadal, he had to be the favorite to win it all. Also by losing that match he never knew if he would be champion again. Same as it happened with Federer. Had he not won the year Soderling defeated Nadal, he would have never been the champion.

Yeah, he was okay with it.. I believe one of the reasons is that Domi is not that focused on the ATP ranking.. he always says his main goal is to win slams.. (and he ha also always said before the US Open title that winning a slam would be a much bigger dream for him than being world No. 1)
Domi was still nervous in the ATP Finals final though.. and didn't play his best.. not bad but not his best either. his coach Nicolas Massu said that Domi was okay with the loss.. and he said after the Australian Open final loss last year that it was his by far worst loss.. he has never been as long sad about a tennis match as he was after that one.. because it was a slam, because he was so close to winning it and because it was already his 3rd slam final.. Domi is super tough on the court, but a sensitive guy in private.. he said in his new Austrian documentary that it would possibly have been a career end for him, if he had lost the US Open final as well.. he's not sure if he would have mentally recovered from it.. and that's also why he was so nervous and tight in that match.. and played below his usual level.. but luckily he never gave up and finally won 😊 even though it required coming back from two sets behind and winning a 5th set tie break after hours of fighting despite already cramping
