- Speed Channel's "101 Cars You Must Drive" segment on Checker Cabs, it was shot in Kalamazoo MI where the Checkers were built. This was the clubs Summer 2008 meet at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo.
There were more cars there than this show represents. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Those checkers are an absolute icon throughout the world. many people are so dissapointed you can no longer ride in one in NY!
My dad bought a Marathon in 1970, a '68 model that sat on the lot for two years at Dick Dye Imports in Oakland. I still have it.
"no high-tech aluminum" as he taps on an aluminum bumper
Checkers never came with a "V-6". They came with a straight 6 or a V-8. The extra long version was an "airport limo". They were only used at airports to transport the flight crews around the airport back in the days when you used to have to walk up stairs wheeled up to the side of the plane.
I had a 82 Marathon that came with a 229 V6 in it
They also offered a Perkins diesel ann starting in 1959 they were sold in dealships to the public consumers.
That was called Aerobus
I had a checker A12E here in the UK! It was imported in by Ben Merkal of the USA! wow, I loved that car. It was done out in NYC cab livery. It had the V8 350 chevy engine. O loved that car! Live the dream!
Growing up in NYC, Loved the Dangerous Ol Checker Cab with the (Rumple?) seat and No seat Belts
More than just NY. CHICAGO, we had them , and they did good work as Jitneys.
I believe that the US are importing the austin black cab. It remains the only purpose built cab in the world. Love to see one in NYC livery!
Beautiful stationwag
@gjohnsoningary There is one UPS Checker still exists. It belongs to a fellow named Joe who is part of the Checker club.
I want one so bad
I saw a Checker Marathon here in Seattle, Washington. I didn't get to meet the owner of the car. I just had to admire the car from a short distance. And it wasn't as nice looking as the Checkers in this video.
Another short video said there are still nearly 3000 checkers though "alive" is any one's guess
"Check out this bumper... good old fashioned iron, designed for hitting small children." 🤣
Where can i get one?

@KinetikPlayground I am sure he knows that but they are mst reconizable in New York he did not say they were only in New York

I rode in a pink one like he is showing at 3:07
@gjohnsoningary my dad saw them in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton LA Seattle Portland and other places too even small towns in BC had them I seen them around. my earlier comment was to the guy becuase he called "this guy a moron". I was saying think he knew that but used New York as they were espessaly comon there
thats pretty cool by the way about riding in these cars
how could he call the checker aerobus something gone horribly wrong. what a jerk! That was the best vehicle there and he just dissed it! Why do a checker cab co review then call on of their vehicles "ridiculous". He also said the front bumper was designed for hitting small children! jeez
Yeah, this guy sucks, he doesn't know shit about cars and he's just making fun of everyone. "Wow look at that, that is a motor" GTFOH with this guy
