    I have several 60 + year old Märklin HO locos with this feature. Why have British locos been so devoid of features until now?

    • @modeloco
      @modeloco  Před 4 měsíci

      Wow really, that’s extremely impressive to hear. This is DCC operated and shuffles the loco too. How did this incorporated uncoupler work with the locomotives you mention?

    • @steamerjon
      @steamerjon Před 4 měsíci +1

      The system was marketed as Telex. These old AC locos have a relay on board which activates when a 24v pulse is sent to the track from the controller. On a basic loco this would just set the direction of the motor, but on a Telex loco the relay could also arm and disarm the electromagnets for the automatic couplers. When armed, as soon as you drive the loco away, the 'finger' on the loco's coupler lifts up to uncouple from the wagon.
      It can take some messing around to make it work properly though!

      @@steamerjon Thank You 🙏 and extremely interesting. Many of us here in the UK can have a very terse, negative reaction to great innovations like this. It’s often seen as destroying the hobby, a bad idea due to price. Is cost an issue at your end and do people become so hostile to this sort of thing because it may actually be a reason we’ve been a bit behind the times in this regard, apart from the obvious scale issues?
      It may be that you all have more disposable income too?

      @@modeloco I'm actually British but I am very much on the continent when it comes to model railways. The complexity and quality of European model railway systems actually make up more of the interest for me than the prototype being represented. These products always feel like good value for money even if a little bit pricey.

      @@steamerjon telex is a joy to operate. Right, going backwards... backwards... and TELEX! Nope... going forwards now... okay, backwards... nope that's TELEX... okay backwards now... nope, that's forwards... okay now that's TELEX but I want to go backwards... bother, they've recoupled...
      I know it's an exaggeration, but it's a game unto itself.
      But no way would I part with it...
      And of course relex you only need the one uncoupler at the start of a yard and just push things back any old where as they're already uncoupled.
      Just brilliant. I'm off to play märklin now...

      Thank You 🙏 It certainly came out of the blue to me, quite far in with the other announcements. Just broke off everything, downed tools and thought to myself… this needs to be heard. Love things like this. It’s a great time to be into the hobby in my opinion

    Of all of the features that manufacturers have added in the last 15 years, not one of them has really given me a flicker of interest.
    Till this one. It’s actually useful. And it’s a thing many continental models have had for about 30 years. Good old Britain, eh?
    Not.

      Hello, Yes indeed, I’ve just been finding out from other comments here. Will you be thinking about getting one and if so, which?

  • @jamesbeckwith3639
    @jamesbeckwith3639 Před 4 měsíci +1

    How much is that going to add to the cost of a loco? Deluxe locos already cost an arm and a leg (which most people cant afford anyway) and for what you get extra is not worth it... and i bet the accurascale 31 will still be much cheaper... and why are they making a loco that 2 manufacturers already make?

    • @modeloco
      @modeloco  Před 4 měsíci

      Hello James, From what I’m reading and seeing European modellers may be better off because they find it astonishing we don’t have these features already and, with issues now arising, the cheaper models you draw my attention to may be so, for reasons that aren’t just linked to the external detailing we’ve become so accustomed to, always associating this with in the recent past?

  • @garylong7599

    Although it is innovative it Only uncouples the loco what about the rest of the stock? I have switched to hornby magnetic couplers in all my stock which are far superior to tension lock couplings especially when propelling

    • @modeloco
      @modeloco  Před 4 měsíci

      I too love the new Hornby magnetic couplers to tie a rake together. Once on the layout this idea gets a massive 👍 from me. Sure you could tell I was very excited 😂

      Oh no 😂 have left it off this video but, in Casey you forget to mute, next time, you can skip intro in chapters usually added below videos. The train beat has inspired so many great tracks 👍

    I can understand how it lifts the coupling on the loco, but how on earth does it work on the wagon coupling too? What am I missing?

    • @modeloco
      @modeloco  Před 4 měsíci +2

      As far as I can see a small section, mounted between and within the newer ‘D’ type front section, when sequence activated, naturally lifts both hooks once loco and rolling stock is bunched up as they always overlap. Very simple but, that’s always the way 👍

      Good point. My guess is, it’s not our most used in UK but, as it’s interchangeable… who knows in future. Very exciting after the more gloomy stuff lately.

  • @fatwalletboy2
    @fatwalletboy2 Před 4 měsíci +1

    Good for those who shunt but the loco is out of reach but i dont mind hand of god and using pukka screw links and using a hook to uncouple.....
    Id rather have auto release though over the very gimmicky roof fans.

    UNNECESSARY ROCKET SCIENCE ON STEROIDS ?????
    Auto self uncoupling has been available in Japanese N scale loco models FOR OVER 30 YEARS. And does not need any electronic extras to make it function, just a tiny magnet hidden in the track. And there was never any extra charge as it is standard in virtually all loco models !!!

    • @modeloco
      @modeloco  Před 2 měsíci

      Is that so and good but, this will uncouple without adding magnets into track and at any point on your layout, within reason, all from your controller. No 🧲’s needed. Two Faller magnets £7.71. For the additional £45 which includes other deluxe features I’d say this will be a popular model 👍

    • @modeloco
      @modeloco  Před 2 měsíci

      PS This is not a UK thing here and only my view. I’m not out to upset you, just thought, what a great idea when it was announced and yet relative silence as there was over TT:120 in many regards. Japanese n scale is just not my brew 🙏

    • @railwaymechanicalengineer4587
      @railwaymechanicalengineer4587 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@modeloco Indeed but I suspect you require DCC control ! In which case such locos are of no use to Professional modellers who are aware DCC currently has NO provision to interface with ANY Block Signalling System, meaning you CANNOT control your model trains in line with the complex rules of railways using Block Signaling systems as used in Europe, Japan but not the USA !!! . Indeed Fleischmann went bankrupt, trying to solve that exact problem with DCC as it currently stands. So Roco snapped up Fleischmann and the problem has still not been solved.
