    Is that a tree farm you're running through? All the trees look like they were planted in rows. Are they to be harvested for pulpwoodc etc.?

    • @kleetus92
      @kleetus92  Před 6 lety +2

      At some point in time people were planting pine trees with visions of getting rich selling Christmas trees. I can only assume this at some point in time was one of those places. My other property in Butler had similar trees planted on it some 30-40 years ago as well. the problem is they're garbage trees. Jack pines, not like a hemlock, white pine, or a fir. They only live maybe 40 years or so, and they start falling apart. Maybe if they were out in the open they'd be better, but in groups, they behave like you see here.

    • @fishwithsj
      @fishwithsj Před 6 lety +1

      When you see old pines planted in that way, it is usually a CCC project. The CCC was a government program that found work for unemployed men before WW2.

    • @kleetus92
      @kleetus92  Před 6 lety

      These trees aren't old enough for that... they might be 40 -50 years old tops.

    One learns quickly not to lean out from the center of gravity on 7.5" gauge track! Or is this 7.25", not knowing the location. Could you supply a little information as to location, how many feet of track, ownership, does he allow visits during the year?

    • @kleetus92
      @kleetus92  Před 6 lety +5

      This is 7.5 inch track. There's a little over a mile of it down. This is north of Clarion Pa, my father's place. Since his death a few weeks back, I've been trying to get things together. There never was any real schedule or plan for meets or whatever, but usually he'd give rides on the major holidays or whatever if he was around.
      I'm going to have to come up with some kind of plan for this as the road right now really isn't set up for club or continuous operation without having traffic jams.

    Totally artificial forest, of course. Nothing pristine or native about it. Created simply for the purposes of a hobby railway. Dunno what it was before white man came along - desert, or shrubland, or genuine forest teeming with wildlife. But, in the pursuit of hobbyism, they have perchance removed a stack of carbon from the atmosphere with all those artificially harvested trees.
